I feel that your explanation detracts from the noble character of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) by suggesting that he was asking a material benefit or physical help, and then turning away from his companion who was in need so that he could seek his own benefit.
4. Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him?
5. As for he who thinks himself without need, (ie. without need of faith in one God)
6. To him you give attention.
7. And not upon (you is any blame) if he will not be purified. ( the Prophet was only responsible for conveying the message, not for guidance)... to the end of the chapter.
Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did not approach the quraysh for assistance or help, but to invite them toward the oneness of God as is made apparent in the verses of that chapter.
1. He (Prophet Muhammad) frowned and turned away
2. Because there came to him the blind man, (interrupting)
3. But what would make you percieve, (O Muhammad), that perhaps he might be purified (as a result of what he learns)
A beneficial message regarding the month of Ramadan, but i would like to point out that your explanation of the incident with the blind companion, who's name was abdullah ibn umm makhtum, and the quraysh idolaters in chapter 80 in the quran was not accurate, though i do not believe that your mistake was intentional.
a very good message which goes to show we should all be out there doing something for our brothers in need ... we need to be reminded every now and again
Thank you and well spoken and it is my hope that your continued efforts will help uproot the unhealthy plant of islamophobia. Perhaps my fellow Christians can rediscover fasting in our tradition...
