i can deal with the start menu, and the ribbon explorer, but i need the functionality to be on the top of the list cause i dont want all these sfx and super-user-friendly and über-candy-cute looking interfaces in the way of working things. if i need to switch windows, edit files, organize, etc, i need windows to make this as easy as possible. all these sfx should only make it look better, not get in the way. thats all im asking. i want classic windows in a 2012 theme, basically. hope this works.

As long as there are no obvious problems I think Microsoft will do well with Windows 8. With the App Store and all the Metro Apps it will work well (as long as they give users the option to go back to the traditional start menu.) For anyone who's interested this video is using the Windows Developer Preview. A lot of things could still change before the final release. Microsoft is releasing a public beta in February 2012 and with this the Windows Store will go into beta as well! :)

This looks a little like the xbox kinect, something that was not mentioned, but seems perfect for the kinect, as it can be connected to a pc and currently has drivers available for use.

Quite a while ago now, it was romoured that windows 8 release would have full Kinect sensor abillity, so maybe they have gone for functionality for the kinect, (aswell as making it easier for touchscreens/tablets etc.)

It's NOT a Beta or a release candidate. Microsoft have a long way to go before this is ready, no doubt about that, but bloody hell people were bitching exactly the same way at how Windows 7 was identical to Vista when the Developer Preview was released.

They didn't seem all that interested in all the new features, they were more caught up in comparing it to Linux and other applications, they missed the features he was showing them first off, so he had to show them AGAIN. I personally see this as a big step, this will allow us to install windows on many different devices, computers and tablets alike. Apps will work cross-platform, and things will be more fluid. This is an early version, wait until the retail comes out to scoff at it.

I find it better, faster, smoother. But i hate that you can't scroll it like on tablets you have to use your mouse wheel or drag the bar thats hiding in the bottom. Personally i hope they fix it

The ultimate goal of this is for Microsoft to put an AppStore with Windows and then be able to share your apps on your desktop with your (Windows mobile) phone. Apple now has an AppStore for their Mac computers as well, however MacOS and iOS are separate.
