i'm proud to say that's my little sister, one day Bridget will be living in Boston mortgage free , retire a millionaire, and even eat only the finest food instead of Alpo. She puts me, our older brother and our sister in law to shame. I had to go buy a new car when I graduated high school in 2006 so I could be "cool" or normal.
I hope to be like these men someday, so I keep saving money, keep my expenses low, work extra hours, yeah I agree with Dave Ramsey when he says "SHUT UP" to those jealous envious people who want to talk down to and scorn those who succeed financially due to their diligence. Punishing people who make over $250,000 a year by heavily taxing them is sowing the seeds of socialism. Grow the hell up! Mike in Texas should be proud!
I get sick and tired of socialists and communist slimeballs who fail to take personal responsibility I just want to punch a hole in the wall, I've had it up to my neck and I'm 5 ft. 11 in. barefoot.
I'm about the same age as Dave's son Daniel Ramsey, funny how at 18 years old as a first year or "rookie" adult I already have my life together. I am living like no one else so that later I get to LIVE like no one else. I put $100 a month into a growth mutual fund. Some adults I meet are so immature and they're much older than me.
After your debt free, including your mortgage, buy, pay off and rent out a new house every 5 years or so and increase your income $10,000 to $15,000 per year whenever you pay one off. Imagine having five paid off properties with a cash flow of $60,000 per yer or so from them alone. Retire without needing the 1.5 million in your Roth ira!
This was about a year before the stock market crash, it's a good thing he took out some of that money from the market and put it in a home before he lost it! Bravo.
Yes, it is when you actually do the math! $15,000/month = $180,000/year, which I will admit is definitely a good wage. However, even at that rate it would take over 22 years to save $4 million, assuming he saved every last penny and didn't spend any of it. Also, you need to consider that this guy did not make $180K/year for all of the 31 years he's been saving, and it probably took him a while to reach his current income. So yeah, this really is quite an accomplishment!
Live like no one else so you can live like no one else! Love it! I am personally debt free except for the home mortgage (which I am working on). I had jumped from get rich quick scheme to get rich quick scheme and didn't make any headway. As soon as I started living like no one else I started building wealth pretty quickly on just my military salary. I am not quite where this gentleman is but I am well on my way. Thanks Dave if you read this!
I love Dave's comment that this is the typical millionaire. How very true. Most live quietly, well below their means, and you'd never guess they are worth millions just by looking at them or talking with them. That caller just sounded like a good old down home country boy. Probably raised in poverty too. A genuine self-made millionaire no doubt.
You think he would have earned it without her? More than likely not. Dave said he's got a good woman. Maybe you don't have any experience with that. Men who prosper in marriage rarely do it without the hard work & cooperation of their spouses. Haven't you ever heard the old saying "behind every good man is a good woman"? It's half hers because marriage is a partnership. Why did you say that anyway? Have you been burned? If burned, maybe YOU didn't choose a "good" woman in the first place.
This was posted in October 2007, when the Dow was around 14,000. Let's assume the call was made around then. As of today (11/20/08) the Dow is below 8,000, a decrease of more than 40%. If he was 100% in stocks (let's hope he wasn't), he'd now have roughly $2.3 million. Probably still enough for the lake house, but he would've lost about $1.7 MILLION in the past 13 months. OUCH! Let's hope he wasn't too heavily weighted in emerging markets or financials, because that's been even worse!
Think about this: More than likely, he has diversified his funds and has invested some of that money as well, so I am sure he is doing much better than just 5% growth per year.
THis dude is CRAZY to BUY a lakehouse. He needs to rent and continue to invest and build the money. Another reason why guys should NEVER get married..
Dude, he's a millionaire, and it's HIS money. He is probably more happy married than you are single! Besides, if he owns it, and he wants to sell it, he will get a good return on his investment, and he can enjoy it at the same time without worrying about payments.
I've heard more inspirational calls on Dave Ramsey than this. It was a good call, but I've heard better. I'm not mad at him for saving that much money though. Good for him.
This concept is so easy to follow and attain.Even though I did not have Dave Ramsey to guide me to my debt free lifestyle,I used common sense years ago to attain my goals. The use of credit has destroyed so many people financially.I recommend using cash for all future purchases.Good luck everyone!!!!
I'm on baby step one. I'm secrectly saving money in my room. With a no touch basis no matter what. We hardley had any food one week..and well..I didn't touch it. I seem to be more serious about this than my husband.
My husband knows I put money away...he just doesn't know how much. I know he approves because he's been handing the money to me. And my Boys have no idea that I do. Or they would be asking me for money all the time.
He's not saying he's average. He's saying he's the average millionaire. Meaning that he has an old car and doesn't like to flaunt his wealth by buying show-off stuff. Tom Stanley's book "The Millionaire Next Door" statistically shows how most REAL millionaires don't live like what we think millionaires live like.
I wish democrats would realize that this is possible for so many americans who are willing to make the right choices and sacrifice to get there. They think millionaires are all bad guys who stole it or "exploited" others to get it. wrong!
Dave Ramsey lays it all down and knows exactly how to explain things so that people can comprehend and click with what he's saying.
The ways to become a millionaire are so simple, yet the steps are almost always set aside by most Americans because they want instant gratification, if you will. They want it now. Well I, for one, want to change my family tree. No wife or children yet, but I want to live like no one else so later I can live like no one else.
Wow shay, I've never seen you comment on a video....SAWTOOTH SAWMILL lol...Can you leave a comment on my page? That'll be awesome considering I have been following the tards for Almost a year now lol.

Just thought I'd point out... that $15K a month... that's the interest (at 5% APY) on $4,000,000.
This guy saved his whole life, and now makes $15K a month to do nothing.
Live like no-one else and later you can live like no one-else.
