Mark : A fine job, indeed, you play a mighty fine pedal steel; What's the name of the tune; sounds familiar. Lloyd is one of my all time favorite steelers. Your tone was excellent, man..Send us another one..thanks..Bernie
Thanks for the comments folks. I've worked on this a bit since the Youtube recording. It's funny the more I listen to Lloyds playing the more I hear, he really is the top man!
Thank you for your kind comment. Yes, I do studio work, over dubs, write and play parts for new songs or replay parts for old songs as required. Some artistes prefer me to travel to their studio, others send me a file and I add parts. I should perhaps point out I'm based in the UK. If you send me a You Tube message I can reply with a bit more detail.
marky its freddy, shall i leave you my e mail adress? i got a pedal steel, id like to talk to you about it, let me know if i should leave email for you, thanks .
well u deserve em u play like an angle on a cloud. i really like your way to play. its not just playing for money but playing. the soul gotta burn before it sounds good and ure soul is almost turning in to ashes u ROCK!
I have to say this is some great playing of a great song. I love Lloyd Green and if you ever tab this out I would love to get a copy. Good job on this, man I would play that for hours. I only wish I could figure that out on my own...ha ha
thank for your response, someone reputable mentioned the CARTER STARTER 3p 4k for 695.00 not bad? I may go with it he said it plays a little nicer than a SHO BUD MAVERICK. which I could have lived with. Im very machanical especially w levers n such, but I wanna play. NOT wrench. CARTER is ALL PLAY!!! should I????
It's hard for me to comment on the Carter, I've never seen one, only heard second or third hand comments. I have played a Maverick and I remember it as being a bit primitive. I would suggest you look for a secondhand pro model guitar and get it checked by an engineer before you start on it. A good steel guitar teacher will pay dividends at this stage too.
Mark, Its great to know that the same guy I watch, and show my friends to, responds with critical info on what Im tryin to learn, it sure means a great deal to me!! Based on the stuff, I may bid on an Old sho-bud d 10 finger tip.8 ped 2 knee . Ebay# 170115047455. If you get a chance , take a look n tell me if its what I need or not. Again, Thanks for the useful info.!! You're very kind indeed!! MARK THE MAN! Regards. Freddy
It's a great old guitar and something I'd love to own. But I have to be honest it's not really suitable for a beginner. Guitars of this age were designed when the pedal steel was still in development. Many players of this era were great lap steel player and didn't need to used pedals and levers like we do today. So if I was you I'd buy it, stick it under the bed for 5 years, buy a fairly modern steel to learn on. I bet you won't lose money, Oh yes, and sell me your spare Shobud pedal.
HEY MARK, Im shopping for a pedal steel, Is single neck plenty to start with? and how many pedals and levers will do? sure can use some pointers. hit me back please! thanks. Freddy
A single neck 10 string E9 guitar is just fine to get started with. Check it has an 'A' pedal strings 10/5 B to C# raise, 'B' pedal strings 6/3 G# to A raise, 'C' pedal string 4 E to F# raise and on the same pedal string 5 B to C# raise. You also need an 'E' knee lever strings 4/8 E to Eb lower and 'F' knee lever strings 4/8 E to F raise. A 'D' knee lever that lowers string 2 from D# to D/C# (half way D, all the way C#) is useful.
That's nice to know. Plenty of practice, is the only way to really learn this instrument or any instrument. Find a good teacher, a good teacher will hopefully make you aware of bad habits from day one. Get out and gig as soon as you can.
GREAT recording, wow!! I gotta say, you got it down! What's that big brown amp to your left all about?
Johi2410 10 months ago
@Johi2410 . Thanks. It's an amp I made a few years ago. I called it the Guyton Amp after a good friend of mine.
