I love Patti's version but I love this one, too. They're both SO different but fantastic in their own right. The orchestration on this gives me goosebumps.
I wish I could combine Sarah's voice with Betty Buckley's and her song interpretation. I know that sounds odd, but my heart usually breaks during this song. With Betty Buckley, my heart breaks 5 times over.
This song is so well-constructed and gorgeously written that women with VERY different voices have sung it and all the rendition sounded fantastic. Patti LuPone, Liz Callaway and Sara couldn't be more different vocally, but they all have fantastic versions of this song. It speaks not only to fantastic singing....but excellent songwriting.
Finally! A song where Sarah opens her mouth and does not sound airy!!!!!!!! She actually sounds like she knows how to sing!!! Don't get me wrong, I love her, but her voice 'teacher' should be shot for messing with this voice I just heard...
Amazingly beautiful and powerful. She actually sounds a tad like Julie Andrews in this song. But I love it all the more for that, because it's still Sarah. She certainly delivers the lyrics well.
If Sarah Brightman would just stick with the lighter side of her voice instead of switching between it and the heavier operatic sound (which she only hints at toward the end of this song) in some of her vocals, I would probably be more inclined to listen to her. This is a beautiful recording. Not normally a Sarah fan myself.
All I can say is WOW! I didn't expect such an amazing performance. Normally, Brightman is not my favorite, but I'm impressed. She should sing more songs of this type.
There was this one girl who chose this piece for the literary competition that she was in at my high school. She had to perform in front of everyone the day before the competition, and her soft, yet sturdy voice did so well that I was moved to tears. This version is good, but it's second to her version.
I actually started listening to this expecting to not like it. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big admirer of Sarah, but I didn't think this was the right song for her. I must say I was wrong. I really like it! It's a great rendition! I still prefer Patti Lupone's version and I think belting goes better with it. Stephanie JB's version is also amazing, spacially for the emotion she puts into the song. This is one of my favorite songs ever and Sarah did a great job!
Brilliant is the best word for it. Blending the work of the masters with this piece and your art together make this clip outstanding. My compliments to the chef!
I love her version of this song. It is so majestic.

I've never heard her belt before...wow. I'm impressed. Usually the 'cottony' sound of her voice bugs me, but when she belts it's alll goone...

lovely voice, but her scoopy mannerisms annoy me. And she has zero emotion in this performance. Liz callaway rocks this song so hard.

This was not written by Sarah Brightman! It was written by Stephen Schwartz and it's from his musical "The Baker's Wife."
dfn107 2 years ago 2
Nowhere does it say this was written by her. It was simply stated it was SUNG by her.
e.g. Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On.
