@RabbitTips101 Some bunnies NEVER lick, some do and some don't stop licking you! Out of the 6 rabbits I've had in the past 3 years, 2 didn't EVER lick - EVER! I have 1 rabbit now which can be seen in some of my older videos, he's 8 this year and 2 dogs.

Patches was my dwarf hotot. He had "patches" of black over both eyes and a freckled bum. Super cute. He was infamous for his licking attacks! RIP Patches. I had to put him to sleep because he broke his femur when playing outside. He was 8 years old.  at the age of 7 he developed intestinal problems and quit eating, but a round of antibiotics and some extra TLC cured the little bugger, but i think he still remained weak. Dwarf hotots are the best rabbit breed ever!!!!

@Lorenicities Hello & thanks for writing. Bunnies are usually SO sweet which is most of the reason we feel so horribly when they die. They're harmless, nice animals & all they want is to be petted, fed/watered & treats here and there. Nothing more, nothing less, simple as that! Oz, my 8 y/o rabbit, takes naps with me. I take him out of the cage, put him under the blanket and he'll lie next to my side. He doesn't pee or anything & when I wake up I put him away. Glad you found another bunny to <3

@sarahst223 Hello again and thanks. It was heartbreaking to just sit back and watch her die like that. Surgery wouldn't have helped, either, unfortunately. It's a common thing since rabbits have gentle stomachs.

@sarahst223 She died just before she turned 6 (she would've been 6 y/o in November and died in early June) because she had an intestinal blockage. By the time I noticed the blockage (it feels like a small lump) it was too late. She'd stopped eating but was still using the bathroom here and there. The blockage caused her to have a heart attack which is why she died. The morning she was dying I put her on the bed with me and fell asleep. Woke to her licking my arm so I put her in cage & she died.

@dreamcaughter14 Nivea was THE sweetest most motherly rabbit I'd ever had. She took 3 wild baby bunnies under her wing & bathed them, showed them how to eat pellet food & how to use the water bottle. Once I noticed how bad her intestinal blockage was she was weak & the vet wouldn't have helped much. I lied next to her that morning, woke up to her licking me, put her in her cage & she had a heart attack and died within moments. Bunnies are fragile animals but SO friendly and precious!

@crazziii Not usually, unfortunately. Average lifespan of a rabbit is 6-8ish. The oldest rabbit in the WORLD was 16 years old! My brown rabbit is my oldest rabbit I've had and he's 8yrs old this year. The others died around 6 from heart attack & intestinal blockage. Evil had the heart attack caused by mold, I believe, and Nivea had the intestinal blockage which caused a heart attack.

@sk8rgal666 Sometimes they just get it. You can give them pieces of bananas and/or papaya to help their digestive tract. Intestinal blockages can be caused by hair (like hairballs for bunnies) since they groom themselves but cannot hack up anything (no burping, gas, hairballs, etc.). Your rabbit sounds fine and lively. Nivea started getting weak when I noticed her blockage. She was barely eating and barely using the bathroom for #2. If you give bananas and papaya on occasion should help.

@sk8rgal666 My 8 y/o rabbit, Oz, has never had a blockage and primarily eats pellets and sometimes treats (basil, carrots, etc.). Oz just started (earlier this year) making noises when he's relaxed with his breathing. Almost sounds like he's congested but once he's not relaxed he breathes fine. Rabbits are fragile but sturdy little buggers! Oldest rabbit in the world was 15, I believe!

@RoockStaar23 I had her for 5 years. She always had a very touchy stomach though. Any slight change in air temperature or fan speed in the house would give her the runs. She died of an intestinal blockage which I didn't notice until it was too late. When you pet your bunny, if you feel a lump around their abdomen area that you feel may be a blockage, please take your bunny to the vet asap! My other rabbit, Oz, will be 8 years old this year. Just be careful, bunnies are very gentle animals!

I have two rescue rabbits. They are a handful. Rabbits are more difficult to take care of than cats or dogs. Only buy a rabbit if your serious about a long term commitment. They live 6-10 years. I suggest everyone go to a animal shelter to get a Rabbit if they are serious about getting one. They are euthenised more often than cats or dogs. Owners drop them off when they become an adult. Because they dont want to devote the time to them, or deal with there constant chewing and molting.

Thanks and yes. She died June 2008 from a heart attack caused by an intestinal blockage. She was such a great bunny and even fostered 3 wild baby bunnies for about a week. If you check my videos you'll be able to see one of the wild baby bunnies drinking from a small bowl.
