I would kill to see Trapeze perform again. Sadly that cannot happen because Mel Galley passed ( RIP ) and Dave Holland's in the slammer for sexual assault. If you think this is amazing, check out Black Country Communion, Glenn's new group.
Glenn Hughes is a fantastic singer. I heard him just recently when I picked up Deep Purple's Stormbringer album and he did a great job on that album with David Coverdale. He sounds just as good here if not better...
Why is every good but obscure band from the late 60's or 70's "underrated" ? You have to understand it was a time of a musical eruption with super groups like Led Zeppelin, The Who, Deep Purple, Cream, The Beatles etc. Bands like Trapeze, Atomic Rooster, Spirit- ( check out 12 dreams of Dr Sardonicus)etc. where very good bands with talented musicians who wrote and put out some great music but got limited air time and exposure because the competition was brutal.Their rating reflected it.
You nailed it. Trapeze was one of the premier bands back in the early seventies. All knew this band. Black Cloud even got air play! ;-) Mel Galley and Glen Hughes went on to form more rock and roll that some would call - above ground. The 1st 4 albums can't be beat. This one hit the spot no doubt.
@viewmore100 There was suddenly a HUGE number of truly classic rock talents. One of the amazing things many of us did was have Stones vs. Beatles loyalties. Pardon me dude, I got 'em both. Randy California's "Dr.Sardonicus" remains one of my top favorites, Steppenwolf 7 is a hell-raiser and just about any Jimi takes your head off. Without a doubt, Johnny Winter's double-album with the 4th blank side established manic blues. You can't stop there. Fill in the blanks dude.
"Medusa" ranks among the greatest Rock Albums of all time. While hitch-hiking across the country in the early 70's, I caught a ride from some heads in Arkansas. "You ever heard Medusa?" they asked. And they popped in the Cassette (yeah, tape).
It was a total Mind-Buster.
This entire album is way too cool- thanks for hosting and posting this timeless masterpiece. Love to you all, "Suzie"
@suziemcalister What a fantastic memory...you are so lucky. Wouldn't you love to go back in time when things were simpler and hitching was reasonably safe? My uncle has told me about his hitch hiking days...cool music, big doobies, a sense of freedom! I'm only just discovering this band NOW! And I love 70's rock and love Glenn Hughes. How have I missed them??
Have not heard it in 30 years. This brought me right back to the days when it was ALWAYS summer and I was ALWAYS in Galveston. The music started and the words came right out of my mouth. It don't get any better than this.
Rest in peace Mel Galley xx you will always be remembered at rock club Mothers Erdington in 1970 x
