  • I'm pretty sure thia engine was rebuilt and i think it ended up in a sand rail/dune buggy raffled off a few years later for the same charity.

  • good on ya for raising some $ for the kids. that engine can be sold for scrap because of the darn magnisium the block is made from hehe.

yes i'm a VW nut but i know this engine could live again.

  • why rebuild the engine, just give the money it costs to the kids.its only a vw motor.

  • Since this engine was "blown" it has been rebuilt and reblown three more times! These engines CAN be rebuilt!

  • @LTBeck41

Yep they can... I had a VW one time...The Alternator/fan belt broke...and I didn't know it...Well it started to get a little smelly back there needless to say..So pulled over...Shut the ignition off and the sucker kept running... Dieseling away... freaking hot.. Went to rebuild the motor and there was a quarter size hole in each piston... These are tough little engines and well designed... Its amazing the abuse they really can take..

  • that is a sin to blow

  • Me to, Sorry..

I Like it for the kids!

    Peace =)

  • =(

  • @rsjagax I was out of line with my reply. You have a valid point that these engines are valuable. Sorry about blowing up. On the other hand, we really did raise a lot of bucks for the kids.

  • Go to hell!

    Never kill an vw engine!

  • @rsjagax Once again, someone has over reacted to the sacrifice of an already damaged engine killed to raise money to feed sick and hungry children. This engine was built from scrap as a teaching tool to show gus how to earn a living fixing VWs. THEN it was returned to the state from which it came and fed over a hundred children. In short, fuck you dick head!

  • dirty piece of shit destroying german engineering!!! better angineering than u american shitheads will ever develop!

  • @Domnaek Go fuck yourself you NAZI! We killed that engine to raise money to feed hungry children.

  • @LTBeck41 hungry children can be replaced. these engines can't.

  • @Domnaek Engineer a Holocaust for the towelheads if you're not too busy!

  • @1flattyre ive shot a 12 gauge 3inch magnum slug at engines and it doesnt do anything lead versus steel...steel always wins

  • Somewhere in New York theres a VW motor on the side of he road from my friends grandfather having one throw a rod, calling his friend, and putting a replacement in on the shoulder.

  • Another reason VW engines are so awesome. Oil leaks out, engine seizes, $250 and about 20-30 hours of labor and it's all fixed up like it was.

  • @1flattyre I bet there is one on film out there somewhere...

  • This was a complete waste of an engine that looked better and probably ran better than alot of the vw engine out there.

  • @Luggzbugman Jeez, are you guys still bitchin about that old engine? That thing was drug out of a junk pile and forced into life for afund raiser for hungry kids 3 years ago. We raised a pile of money for food for the kids all for the cost of one junk engine. Thanks for caring though. As another bug owner it is nice to know that some folks still care about the classics.

  • too many years, I am looking around find vw parts because in cyprus we cant find it. vw is classic now why people doing this... I am sorry about it.

  • That hurts I have spent $1500 redoing my motor up nice if this ever happens I would be pissed.

  • Raise money, huh? Why not put that engine in a car that's worth a damn, give it to the parents of the kids they cannot provide for, so maybe they can get to work and provide? I dabble with motors along side people much more skilled than I. Out respect for the original craftsmanship, and motors in general, I would tell someone to "you know what," if they ever presented an idea such as this. Shame on you if you're an engine builder, even if it was for "charity."

  • why ruin a perfect motor?

  • Let me try this one more time...this engine was created from a scrap engine for the specific purpose of being "blown" in order to raise money to feed hungry kids. The engine was not out of a running car. it was scrap that was semi-rebuilt enough to run for a brief time. That is all.

  • shame

  • hey lad, I'm very toey about you ruining this engine... shame on you!

  • WE did it to raise a lot of money to feed hungry kids.

  • Thats a shame.

  • wtf that could of went in my vw lol

mine froze the wheels up when it slung a rod

  • Most older junk yards can get you a buildable engine for under a hundred bucks. Rebuilding it is the trick. It really is not all that hard if you get a block that has a good crank in it.

  • -.-

  • Out of many replies, yours is by far the clearest one. I applaud you for brevity and honesty. Thank you.

  • Stupid

  • Was this a comment or merely self recognition?

  • what a fuckwhit!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Are you in the habit of creating new words to show your advanced level of stupidity?

  • Unusual fund raiser but a good cause is a good cause. Well done mate. Now I;m a mechanic and a car nut and I wouldn't pay to see something like that. So, serious question, who paid to see that and how many paid to see an old VW engine drained of oil and flat revved til it stopped? :)

  • This is an annual event at this patricular car show. "Blowing" (seizing acutally) the engine gives them a chance to bet how many seconds (a a few bucks per second) it will last. Some die at 6 others last two or even three minutes. Cjarity always gets several hundred dollars. That feeds lots of little kids!

  • VW new beatle ? or ?

  • Very d, junk yard beetle engine rebuilt just for t his occasion from used parts.

  • Ok, seriously, what was the point of that? I can take the oil out of my engine and it'll do the same thing. If your gonna blow a motor at leats go out in a blaze of glory. Run that son of a bitch with a 300 shot of Nos through it. Do something cool! That was lame!

  • WIsh we could do the NOS thing! Saw one here on youtube that was inside a explosive cage and it was GREAT! We had to tone it down ti merely seizing since kids were around and we had no safety cage thingy. Thanks for the non-abusive comment. The kids that ate from the proceeds say thanks as well.

  • i wouldent say it blew up it kinda just stopped

  • that wuz qiuck

  • Hey

No oil in Very Old engine...Max Rev without Oil ?

Many New Hi-Tech engines... will died much

    Much Faster....!!!

  • Should've encased it in some protective glass.. add nitrous.. and flame accelerants.. now that would've been a good blow up XD

  • I agree that the destruction would have been spectacular. Do it. FIlm it and post it.

  • as long as its for the kids let her die

old engine dies a kid lives

  • pointless!

  • This makes me cry

  • I am sorry you feel that way. The kids that ate a hot meal using the money we rasied from the engine blow fund raiser were exceedingly happy.

  • what a waste

  • Prat!

  • 11th commandment: thou shalt not waste a good VDub motor.

  • This engine was created from a scrap engine for the specific purpose for which it died. We made a lot of money to feed hungry kids that day.

  • even so did you have to make it look so nice? I mean comon, that motor is better looking than mine!!

  • The Melborne VW Club took a good deal of pride cleaning this engine up.

  • yes dewypug is right they use ram air (a big fan)

  • what a wast that look like a mint engine what a fucker! who would do that what a wast of money your only sposed to do that do toyotas!

  • what a waste

  • That was gay, why not use the good engine for something?

Put it in a go-kart, and run it in that until it blows up that would be fun...

  • It was an air-cooled motor, that's why it died so quick.

  • jadakissboi: You know very little about these engines... (by the way, you should have said 'quickly', not 'quick'.

  • Wee woo wee woo wee woo, sorry grammar police. When there is no air going into an air-cooled motor it's common sense that it would have died so quickly, happy?

  • To counter your flippant comments - yes, air does cool the cylinder heads, via the large, enclosed fan that blows through a series of ducting in front of the engine, but these engines do not fail only due to a lack of air... Oil is the other thing that cools the engine. Additionally, there is an upright oil cooler that is contained inside the fan housing - keeping the hot oil at a safe temperature.

  • If oils would have kept in and instead fanbelt would have been taken off the engine would have run several minutes and had gone down with flames

  • Look dude (LTBeck41) I'm just saying this is kinda dumb, b/c yeah trying to build good engines is something that I truly find entertaining, but then to just run them till they blow w/ no oil is fucking stupid. I mean idk about you, but its pretty obvious to me what's going to happen every time!

  • that was a weak engine blow. all it did was sputter out. iv seen pistons go through the side of an engine block and snap the brank shaft in half

  • I am quite sure that the families that got the food bught with the money we raised with this "weak" event are quite satisfied with the results. Where is your video of pistons flying around? Put up or shut up!

  • Why is it entertaining to do that?

  • so this is really gay

  • How is an old engine melting down from lack of oil equivalent to the lifestyle numerous men and women elect to follow? Or are you merely both stupid AND homophobic?

  • fuck you you brazil faggit

  • I have absolutely no idea what this means...but thanks for the comment anyway.

  • americans.. fuck you all

  • WTF

Y did you drain the oil ?

that ruined all the fun :/

of course it was gunna seize up,and be stupid

you shoulda had oil and watched a rod blow out an hit sum-1 in the face

  • hahahahahahaha

  • WAS a good engine.. blowing it up was just a waste.. and pretty pointless. Not even entertaining really. Just a waste of a good engine. Even if it was in a junk yard.. it still ran and must have had at least some good parts.

  • We tend to rebuild these same engines each year both for the show/charity and to reafirm the critical need for regular oil changes for air cooled cars. Thanks for the concern.

  • Idk, seems to be a waste of parts anyway. but if it raises money for charity, what the hell blow the bitch

  • I hope you guys didn't throw away the tins, carb, generater, and such. Its good to keep those parts handy for other motors. I'm a die hard vw fan and have known about the engine contest forever. With oil, they simply won't blow up, They can stay wide open until they run out of fuel. They only weaken when they are neglected for thousands of miles. Good show.

  • im a fan of volkswagen beetle my aunt has one of 1974 1300 .....

  • That model was a very fine year for bugs. Your aunt is a lucky lady!

  • fuckin bastard old men fat elephant you mother fucker killer volkswagen beetle engine ....

  • Is that the same mouth you eat with and kiss your wife/mother/girlfreind/cat with?

  • lol cat

  • It´s zero oil in the engine ? The motor is 100% dry of oil ? And has lefted that big much ?

  • We ran it off and on during the day. Drained oil and left it open for draining for about an hours befroe turning it on.

  • total waste

  • Engine was from a wrecker yard in the first place so we just wasted some waste.

  • No oil competition?

  • Wow. People clapped because the engine blew up. Like they didn't know that was going to happen. Or, because the demonstration worked. I am going to give people more credit.

  • We charged a buck a second so the winner would get half the money for which second it died. Other half of the money went to local food bank.

  • Glad to see that at least a few peole "get it" regarding this engine. They rebuilt it from a dead engine to show VW users why regular/frequent oil changing is important for air cooled engines.

  • lasted a lot longer than i expected

  • Where's the saftey cage ? That's way too dangerous to do in a crowd with no saftey equipment around.

  • From the angle of the vid and the zooming, it is hard to see that we had the crowd out at about 15 to 20 feet from the engine prior to starting it. Having owned many VWs, we know that these engines seize and stop as oposed to actually tossing off any parts when they "blow". If the later was possible then we would, of course, use a safety enclosure. Thankyou for your input and concern.

  • But you don't know that for sure that parts aren't going to fly off when the motor quits. I've seen plenty of VW motors go up in flames in these contests. I was actually driving a VW when the engine caught fire and if the fire department would have shown up just a few minutes later than they did, the engine would have BLOWN UP! When you get that one in a million shot and the rod comes flying thru the case, then what? I just don't see why a saftey cage isn't put up to prevent a serious accident!

  • Go home play with your toys, totally idiot. Why do this with engine which is almost 60 years old? U all know that it will blowup at max RPM, and without oil

  • how many rpms was it turning

  • I'll try to find out and get you an answer.

  • and so far as those engine's sucking, that guys way off. Any engine that is used in aircraft, boating (everglades airboat), AND the auto industry simply has to be durable.

I would bet that when that "blown" engine cooled down it could be restarted, rod and crank bearing were shot, but I still bet it would start....

  • and I wasn't fully aware of the "heating" system till after the first winter, what a bear!I got a gas heater over the summer and then it was pretty much just like a regular car during the winter.Gas was $0.29/9, so 3 bucks would fill it and 300 miles would empty it.

  • Funny how these engines that "suck" seem to outlast just about every engine ever invented. There are thousands of VWs still in service from the 1950, 60s and 70s. Quite a few are still running on the original engine. My '68 is running just fine on her stock block and chugs along at 65 every day.

  • I reitterate...this motor was harvested from the boneyard and rebuilt to teach VW owners how to do it. We sacrificed it at a VW show to raise money for the local food bank. A few bucks for each second from zero to 120 then 5 second blocks to 4 min. Ususally you have a dead engine by then. This particular engine has been the victim several times.

  • I wonder...ever think of trying that Slick50 stuff or the equal in it see if it helps run longer?

  • I was hoping to get some slick 50 into the motor next october if the Melborne FL club will let me.

  • I had a 62 beetle with wheel adapters to fit some stock steel chevy rims on it.I think it was rated at 40 hp. the biggest thing that made me mad was the red light on the expressway entrance ramps. You couldn't get up enough speed to merge "gracefully". LOL

  • it look's like a new engine ??

    or not ??

  • what a waste of a bug motor

  • that was boring

  • Haha! It`s VW! Thats why...

  • wow, that didnt last long

  • yea.. no oil in, it go figures

  • i meant the fastest in my last comment.. the** vvvv

  • whatever ... no respect for the engine whatsoever

  • i personally dont lik the motor either.. but i respect it.a fastest 4 cylndr in the werld is a twin turbo VW... itz a dragster runnin 6 40 or 6 50

  • Why screw up a good VW engine????

    Interesting to watch tho!

  • VW club that sponsors the car show builds the engine to teach members how to do it. Once done, the engine is sort of sacrificial. Other youtube engine blow using the orange dune buggy has rebuilt THAT engine 3 or 4 times.

Gldd you liked the vid. It is the only one I've done.

    LTB

  • yep we have done it too. their not hard to rebuild(unless you throw a rod) lot of fun too

  • Nice.
