re-watching this because of the xiii-2 release. God i miss the excitement i had when i watched this trailer... it was better in hindsight now that I've finished the game.

Compared to other game, Final Fantasy XIII was Fun! But Compared to other Final Fantasy's, (and Ive played em all) FF XIII WAS THE WORST ONE BY FAR! No doubt the game had some good things in it. ex Character design, Story, and HD Game Play! But the bad far outweighed the good. ex: They took away all control for the support Characters! So when ur MC Died those Idiots just stood there and GAME OVER! New Engine New System A HOLE LOT of promise for Epic game play but instead 100% Linear Play.
They should have given you the opportunity to just watch the CG because I was WAY MORE impressed by that than the shitty game and besides that the videos lasted almost as long as the gameplay, in the beginning.
I'm going to be honest Sazh was the only character in this game that kept me playing. Why? Cause he wasn't so gloomy and dramatic as everyone else was at the beginning to the middle of the story. (this excludes vanille i dont really care much about her). I absolutely hated Hope. He's up there with seymour as one of my most hated FF characters.
if you're a true final fantasy XIII, what does it matter whether it has linear gameplay or awful graphics? All of FF games have great storylines that are meant to keep players busy understanding, and the so "awful" linear gameplay you brag so much about actually helps the flood of information to fit at the right place.... So i don't get your problem. Personaly, i think it is a great game, enjoyed it until the end and will probably repeat it in the near future. Just play both if you have doubts..

@criminalV I never finished 10 Im at Sin at the moment its been years since i've played 10. X is a great game but you can't compare the game to XIII in terms of story.Both have good stories just one of them is more confusing than the other. This being XIII at first you'll probably be confused but if your smart enough unlike some ppl youll get the story. I should add the game is linear. I have no problem with the linear concept as it complements the story.
@criminalV Well Aside from Tactics and Tactics Advance my favorite game from the franchise would be X. The music, atmosphere, characters, story were excellent. After X would be XIII as my 2nd favorite.

@criminalV If you not sure on whether to buy a new copy for 20$ (assuming you live in the US) then buy it used. I will admit the game does have its flaws like not being able to control all your characters in battle. I got over this its really no big deal. Also if you like to explore towns and such you can't you will see why in the story, you will only be able to visit about 3 places after chapter 11. I don't what else to say about the game other than the outstanding soundtrack.

FFX was a fantastic game that broke new ground. Hell, I even liked X-2 just because of the familiar characters and the story that I NEEDED to know (if it wasn't for X, I would've never played X-2).
When I first played XIII, I cried at the beautiful, godlike graphics. However, this feeling quickly diminishes, as 2/3rds of the game is cutscenes. Combine w/ linear gameplay and you have one shitty game.

@criminalV Well, if you haven't already played X-2, do that. It adds a nice resolution to the story from X, with some added twists ;). After that... there really isn't any other games I could recommend, unless you're fine with blocky, PS1 graphics. If so, definitely play FF7 and FF8.
Even the previous ones (1-6), even with their shitty graphics, are still great games.

cloud has tifa, squall has rinoa, zidane with garnet, tidus with yuna, X-2 yuna still searching for Tidus, Vaan and ashe (failed story), this game is the Winner :P ... FFXIII has NONE (i wont talk about lightning's sister, cause she's not even main character).

While I don't think FF7 is overrated (and is in fact one of the greatest games pf all time especially story-wise) I am always excited to see where the next Final Fantasy game is going.
This game was so boring :/ just pick a fighting style and slash away. So 2d for all its graphics. Follow a path (while slashing) to the end of the area, fight a boss and move on, then again and again and again.
I know that all FF games have a set linear story but a open would would have been nice.
I miss the massive fighting options you had of the old game play :/
@DipsyMum29, dunno what you're talking about, the variety in enemies and tactics is great and the combat is a delight overall, especially in the last few chapters when it suddenly gets real challenging. I'd even say it's the best FF gameplay so far right from the first one.

@kairinaminemix I totally agree with you there.It kept the time based battle system of ff7, upgradable weapons like ff8 and the level up system like part 10, but thats what I though cant wait for part 2.
Loved this game. It had its flaws but clearly this was more of an experiment to see what SE needed to fix.
I thought the characters were well-developed and the story was great. I only wish they explained it a little bit more properly. I didn't mind the linearity either, it got me through the story faster, plus its a very open world on Pulse. I can also complain about not having a strong villian, but it looks like FF13-2 will redeem some of these mistakes.
This FF13 was such a big disappointment. I regret getting it for $60 when it was first released. ;( sadness happens. It may have great graphics but the gameplay is sure lame. I don't see that burst of OMFG, if you like the Limit Breaks and all that Jazz well they replaced those in this game with FF10 summonings instead. Oh forgot to mention the monsters don't drop Gil anymore you have to sell parts for gil now so happy grinding. It's just the grinding that kills me but this much is too much. =D
@xDisRazyboix actualy almost no grinding is needed. i got pretty much everything i needed from drops and chests. i only used around 15,000 gill the entire game
A lot of people want a final fantasy 7 remake, but honestly, I'd love another final fantasy with cloud as the main character. Not a remake, but a new game.

@PrinceOF9Imagination Skyrim does indeed have glitches. Even so, it is still a clearly superior game to FFXIII and most games released this year.
FFXIII was terrible. FFXIII-2 has some potential as they say they are working out some of the issues that existed with XIII proper. If they give it a decent plotline, better characters, good music, and add some depth to the combat, (so essentially overhauling major elements of the game) then sure, this could be a great game. But XIII was shit.

@PrinceOF9Imagination XIII is terrible. It has a joke of a story and cast of characters. Its difficulty is a joke. It's music is mediocre. All it has is eye candy and an established playerbase due to the franchise it came from, not its own virtues. If it didn't have the Final Fantasy name on it, it would have few fans.
FFVII is, to this day, more fun than FFXIII. That said, FFVII is not even my favorite FF.
How/why would I be jealous of a game that I own, being bad? And especially when I'm comparing it to games made by the same company, that were this game's predecessors. It isn't like I don't have a PS3/Xbox360 or the means to obtain this game. "Jealous" makes no sense at all in regards to me on this matter.

Many of its elements are timeless like the gameplay, music, story, and characters. Keep in mind, I also view FF7 as one of the most overrated video games of all time.

Problem with auto-battle? Put it on abilites (beat the whole game like this). Linearity? Goes with the story and still has a great OST and battle system. Bad characters? Easily the best character development of the entire series. Hope was whiney? His fucking mom just died... Bad soundtrack? Listen to "Nascent Requiem". Like seriously FFXIII was an amazing game through & through. Fighting on the wings of the palamecia with Fangs theme playing. Truly Epic :) Only FF9 & 4 are better than 13 IMO.
@Peace1ProudCanadian The autobattle was absurdly easy. I won't argue that in past FF's individual minor encounters were relatively easy, but FFXIII's were balls easy AND managing resources wasn't even part of the equation. If anything it reduced the depth to combat in this installment.

This game was so boring :/ just pick a fighting style and slash away. So 2d for all its graphics. Follow a path (while slashing) to the end of the area, fight a boss and move on, then again and again and again.
I know that all FF games have a set linear story but a open would would have been nice.
I miss the massive fighting options you had of the old game play :/

@DipsyMum29, dunno what you're talking about, the variety in enemies and tactics is great and the combat is a delight overall, especially in the last few chapters when it suddenly gets real challenging. I'd even say it's the best FF gameplay so far right from the first one.

Loved this game. It had its flaws but clearly this was more of an experiment to see what SE needed to fix.
I thought the characters were well-developed and the story was great. I only wish they explained it a little bit more properly. I didn't mind the linearity either, it got me through the story faster, plus its a very open world on Pulse. I can also complain about not having a strong villian, but it looks like FF13-2 will redeem some of these mistakes.

This FF13 was such a big disappointment. I regret getting it for $60 when it was first released. ;( sadness happens. It may have great graphics but the gameplay is sure lame. I don't see that burst of OMFG, if you like the Limit Breaks and all that Jazz well they replaced those in this game with FF10 summonings instead. Oh forgot to mention the monsters don't drop Gil anymore you have to sell parts for gil now so happy grinding. It's just the grinding that kills me but this much is too much. =D

@PrinceOF9Imagination Skyrim does indeed have glitches. Even so, it is still a clearly superior game to FFXIII and most games released this year.
FFXIII was terrible. FFXIII-2 has some potential as they say they are working out some of the issues that existed with XIII proper. If they give it a decent plotline, better characters, good music, and add some depth to the combat, (so essentially overhauling major elements of the game) then sure, this could be a great game. But XIII was shit.

@PrinceOF9Imagination XIII is terrible. It has a joke of a story and cast of characters. Its difficulty is a joke. It's music is mediocre. All it has is eye candy and an established playerbase due to the franchise it came from, not its own virtues. If it didn't have the Final Fantasy name on it, it would have few fans.
FFVII is, to this day, more fun than FFXIII. That said, FFVII is not even my favorite FF.

@FucileFTW Many are simply blindly attached to FFVII as you suggest. I'm not however. I do regard it as one of the best video games of all time, because it is a solid game. Many of its elements are timeless like the gameplay, music, story, and characters. Obviously things like graphics are dated (good for their time), but even now, it is a game I'd play over many newer ones by its own virtues. Keep in mind, I also view FF7 as one of the most overrated video games of all time.

Problem with auto-battle? Put it on abilites (beat the whole game like this). Linearity? Goes with the story and still has a great OST and battle system. Bad characters? Easily the best character development of the entire series. Hope was whiney? His fucking mom just died... Bad soundtrack? Listen to "Nascent Requiem". Like seriously FFXIII was an amazing game through & through. Fighting on the wings of the palamecia with Fangs theme playing. Truly Epic :) Only FF9 & 4 are better than 13 IMO.

@Peace1ProudCanadian The autobattle was absurdly easy. I won't argue that in past FF's individual minor encounters were relatively easy, but FFXIII's were balls easy AND managing resources wasn't even part of the equation. If anything it reduced the depth to combat in this installment.
