awesome build, i think the only thing holding this type of gadget back is how slow it is vs just a keyboard and mouse.

Yeah its much slower than amouse and keyboard and is utterly useless for playing reaction shooters like Call of Duty.

It is however awesome for playing realistic shooters like Operation Flashpoint and stuff. It will make you get lower scores but it will make you feel so much more good about them :D

I'm thinking about buying one of those. What makes his so much more advanced? Is it as accurate as a mouse? Would it be possible to build one with hardware alone? Or does he use special software?

Theyre actually pretty easy to make.

But what makes his much in my opinion "better" than mine is that his is wireless. as for the rest I guess they are pretty identical. I use a logitechAir as mouse device instead of the Gyration mouse but that is just because at the time it was cheaper and also had some other functions I wanted since I actually use the mouse for other stuff than the gun, I am making a new enhanced version so stay tuned i guess. have a WIP vid going on that shows the proccess.

I did make a simple force feedback for it.

Just put a little motor inside it with a unbalanced metal weight on it. However it has now been removed temporarly because it kinda got loose and ate some wiring :)

Force feedback is really easy to make so I guess he could just pop one in there.

And for this turning out better, we will see I guess. atm im going in a totally different direction then he is. But that is a secret for now :D

I guess I could take the time and explain pivot points and basic physics/math for you but that would take more than the allowed amount of letters in the comment field. SO i'll just leave you with this "riddle". wich one moves faster? The center of a spinning disc or the outside of a spinning disc.

I was thinking that when i seen it but then i rewatched it and his is moving but his character doesn't, then there is spots where his character moves but he isn't...

That would be me pressing the button that turns of the gyroscopic mouse.

This is used to align the gun with the view in game since the game doesnt know wich way im pointing the gun when a new level loads.

Imagine lifting up your mouse and putting it in the top left corner of the mousepad and then start a game. The guy wont be looking up to the left corner. he will be looking at the place the game tells him to look when a new level loads.

thus every time you reload you need to realign.

as for sensitivity I thought it would be nice to just add here that the sensitivity is calibrated so a 90degree turn of the gun will turn the character 90 degrees. This is for added realism.

This can be seen in the other vid that I imagine the other guy hasnt bothered to watch :D (Synching movement to the VRGameGun)

My next step will (i think) be kinda different from yours i hope. Im planning on removing the LCD and hooking it up to a VR helmet wich also has another gyration mouse attached to it. in theory this would make it possible for me to control the crosshair with the gun and the actual field of view with my head.

this comes with enourmous compatibility issues but I have identifed a few games that has support for this. Arma 2 is one of them.

Its kindof hard to explain. :)

thx for your msg. i just have the mouse right now. this weekend i will buy a gun and a xbox360 wireless controller. i will lend one before to see if i can bind the left and right klick buttons on the xbox controller. if i can i will buy one. and im not sure witch screen i should buy. i thought about a lcd tft with 8'' in 4:3 format with touch, vga and a usb port in it. costs around 100€ on ebay. tell me if you have a better idea for the controller or for the screen :) cyaa

Binding buttons is very easy if you use emulation software like joy2key.

as for the screen im not sure. I guess it all depends on where you live. I found a 7" 16:9 tft on a swedish site. as for Germany I have no idea.

A tip for remodeling the controller is to use old IDE cables. youll get what I mean once you rip it open and start dismantling it. :)
