Man, what can I say. I've seen God, heard God, and his name is Rakim, still is! Peerless, flawless off-the-dome-shit that's so potent you could freebase it off the speakers..Nobody has that smooth as butter flow; nobody has that emperical, trancendental fluidity of intellect on the mic like the "R". Undisputed Ali Heavyweight off Hip-Hop- today he's cooking up wicked joints that are just light years ahead of even contemprary rappers. peers? What peers. Many follow, but the leader always leads
my top 4 is nas, kool g rap, rakim, 2pac. pac was not near as good a rapper technically as the other 3, but he was the realest, and he spit it from the heart
i wish i could shoot all the people on youtube that talk about who the best rapper is or was...fuck that!!!!! it's a matter of opinion...if a dude likes lil fucking wayne than let him,how dumb that might be......
No, there is one God, that is Rakim. He was titled "The God" no one else. He's Conscious and Cosmic. He is perfected to the 77.7th%. The rest is Ahmose.
You got it wrong. No one could come close to Rakim. Big L was a freestyler thats in Biggie and Eminems league. No one but Ahmose can do what Rakim did.
No, you just want me to compare them. I said he is in the same league as them, which would be the best freestylers of all time. Around top 10 I would say. Big L might be in the top 3. But he did nothing too important for hiphop, other than set a tone for nice freestylers. Hes one of the best though. Nothing compared or even mentioned to Rakim.
Pac wasn't the greatest rap-technically, but he was definitely the realest, and that's what rap is also about, therefore he's not overrated. Rap technically Rakim is better, of course...
i never said pac is lyrically better than rakim , they aint both my favorite rappers (big, and young prodigy are still untouchable) , but 2pac was seriously one of the realest and he has also some nice verses , especially those tracks when he sounds very emotional/aggresive
i dont think so 2pactheking400, anyone who grew up when rakim was rapping, knows that rakim is a legend! plus hes in the Hip Hop Hall OF Fame. so for all the young hip hoppers that listen to music like D4L and souljaboy,That alone speaks for its self.
i grew up during 2pac's rapping time but my mom and cousins listened to alot of rakim so i also listened to him and i know he is obviously a legend im saying he is underrated right now because of all those who listen to to much of soulja boy and garbage like that
o i gotcha. i grew up listening to 90's hip hop and my older brother put me on 2 krs-1, rakim and other artist around that time... but yea, Im only 21 but all of these teens and even MOST young adults close to my age dont really know about real hip hop. they just like anything with a nice beat and a catchy hook. str8 party music that they can swagg to in the club.. Which is ok, but we need more substance on the radio's & T.V's also... I understand your comment now though, respect hommie.
"did u say d4l and souja boy was hip hop?" hell nah nigga!!!!!! iz u crazy? lol. they are hip pop. hip- meaning new and fresh. pop- meaning popular by commericially played. they aint no real m.c's tho... shit, they cant even battle nobody! but thats all these young ppl (12-23 years of age) like to listen to.. so i guess it is MODERN DAY hip hop, but not hip hop in my opinion when you compare them to what hip hop is based on.. the 5 elements.
Pac, nas, big and some others were/are crazy good but no one will ever compare to Ra. Not even a discussion.

u compare Big L to biggie n eminem? that was the worst thing ever.
L is a sick ass lyricist, not just a freestyler.
But Rakim is a legend, who changed the hiphop, to the real ILL hiphop. so props..
