This topic really becomes a pet peeve for me when people (i.e. geedup415) say that "evolution is unproven" yet they use antibiotics, antivirals and vaccines to combat microorganisms. I don't deny that mutations occur. Mutation does not add any new information into the genome tho In fact 99% of mutations improve nothing or are harmful. Fruit flies have had their genes mutated by us for years. Three outcomes. You get a fruit fly , a deformed one or a dead one. Superbugs don't evolve. They switch a gene on that allows them to survive but interestingly enough when put back with the parent bug they die.
It's pretty ignorant to say that a mutation can NEVER produce a beneficial gene. You would have to understand every possible amino acid sequence to make such a claim. You would also have to deny beneficial mutations such as HIV resistance and the development of nylonase, Interestingly, the heterozygous form of sickle cell anemia (often thought of as a bad mutation) seems to protect people from malaria and they do not experience the disease associated with the homozygous form.

Here's the problem with mutations. According to theory, evolution can be defined as any change in the frequency of alleles within a population from one generation to the next. But mutations only happen to individuals not populations. The odds are that since harmful mutations far outnumber the "beneficial" mutations, the odds are that the harmful ones will drag down the population so badly that extinction is the only possible result. Natural selection is only for cleaning the gene pool.

Individuals with mutations harmful enough to affect their ability to survive long enough to reproduce will not spread their genes through the population as efficiently as those individuals with more beneficial genes. A beneficial mutation will become more prominent in the population because more members with this mutation will pass on their genes to their offspring and so on.

I agree and nowhere is this more apparent than in Holy Books, dogmas, etc. of the many thousands of religions in general.
This topic really becomes a pet peeve for me when people (i.e. geedup415) say that "evolution is unproven" yet they use antibiotics, antivirals and vaccines to combat microorganisms. The research done to manufacture those drugs is all based on evolutionary biology and its mechanisms. So unless you want to live beyond 30, try to appreciate science a little more.

I don't deny that mutations occur. Mutation does not add any new information into the genome tho In fact 99% of mutations improve nothing or are harmful. Fruit flies have had their genes mutated by us for years. Three outcomes. You get a fruit fly , a deformed one or a dead one. Superbugs don't evolve. They switch a gene on that allows them to survive but interestingly enough when put back with the parent bug they die.

It's pretty ignorant to say that a mutation can NEVER produce a beneficial gene. You would have to understand every possible amino acid sequence to make such a claim. You would also have to deny beneficial mutations such as HIV resistance and the development of nylonase, Interestingly, the heterozygous form of sickle cell anemia (often thought of as a bad mutation) seems to protect people from malaria and they do not experience the disease associated with the homozygous form.

Still that's a mutation that could be coupled with other mutations to form new genes, so your assumptions are still inaccurate and they fail to take into consideration many factors. Either way, if there was just one beneficial mutation 100 years over millions of years...that starts to add up to a lot of beneficial mutations.

What i said was only 1 % were beneficial. And 70% harmful is also correct. Face facts in any generation only 2 genes in 3.5 billion can change a third is fatal for a human . Also it seems mutations are made in a lab easily but occur very rarely in nature. People who have been exposed to radiation or chemicals and other man made influences dont give birth to the next evolved human - quite the opposite in terms of birth defects. Evolution in reverse is what your precious mutations actually cause

Genes can also be duplicated, leading to an increase in the genome. DNA mutations naturally occur. Also, only 7% of mutations outside of genes were harmful in yeast. That is, mutations in junk DNA, which we're starting to find has a purpose. So there appears to be a lot of potential for mutations.

Junk DNA 10 yrs ago was supposed to have proved evolution , being the leftovers of that process according to the likes of Dawkins then. New research has now found it is as critical to life any any other DNA. Dont wait hear a retraction from him tho. He saw it the way he wanted to see it in a very uncritical and unscientific way. Have you ever heard of Richard Lenski's 21 year experiment with E. coli? It's really fascinating actually and I suggest you read about it.

Here's the problem with mutations. According to theory, evolution can be defined as any change in the frequency of alleles within a population from one generation to the next. But mutations only happen to individuals not populations. The odds are that since harmful mutations far outnumber the "beneficial" mutations, the odds are that the harmful ones will drag down the population so badly that extinction is the only possible result. Natural selection is only for cleaning the gene pool.

Spot on but as you read other posts here, you will see there is an ingrained belief that these mutations happen often and are nearly always beneficial. TheSeventhSon quotes Richard Lenski's 21 year experiment with E. coli. There is now serious doubt as to the validity of it after it was examined carefully. This was a peer reviewed study too.

Individuals with mutations harmful enough to affect their ability to survive long enough to reproduce will not spread their genes through the population as efficiently as those individuals with more beneficial genes. A beneficial mutation will become more prominent in the population because more members with this mutation will pass on their genes to their offspring and so on.

design is religion because its about a "creator", this implies a supernatural being. Well... the idea of supernatural being is as vague as the definition of god. Such act of creation can't be empirically proven, because "god" is about "supernatural". therefore creationism is always related to a religion, to "belief" in the act of creation. It is not about an empiricall observation that explains how anything in life is. Plus design imply "intention", there isn't such in the universe
