i am latino and i admit that latinos made extremely angsty cheesy teenybopper electro called "freestyle"...and one of the reasons it comes off so cheesy is because its use of simply sequenced harsh sounding drum machine patterns are so out of style just the like the scratch now is for hip hop... but it still is nostalgic for people.. they sell out Madison Square Garden with this shit ever year This was before my time but I wish i could have been a teenager during this time

This is both electro and freestyle. Freestyle came from electro and for a few years, from 1983 (or maybe even 1982)to about 1985, there were a lot of songs that were transitional, electro but heading for what would become freestyle. 1984, from when this song is, has tons of those kind of transitional tracks, a lot with R&B singers.

This beat was pioneered in this early 80's, and lasted for a few years. In different shapes, but always regognizable. That's a long time for a dance beat. I think this must be the 909. It kept on rattling beats when the house scene kicked in, second half of the 80's. I witnessed it all.

I feel today's music is uninspired. Dance songs don't stand out and have their own sound like in the disco era and 80's to early 90's. Some of the divas of today should be doing great dance songs with their strong vocals. There are a few standouts at the moment ie. Kristine W, Barbara Tucker, Amber, Alison Limerick and Joi Caldwell
