i am latino and i admit that latinos made extremely angsty cheesy teenybopper electro called "freestyle"...and one of the reasons it comes off so cheesy is because its use of simply sequenced harsh sounding drum machine patterns are so out of style just the like the scratch now is for hip hop... but it still is nostalgic for people.. they sell out Madison Square Garden with this shit ever year This was before my time but I wish i could have been a teenager during this time
You hear this, and instantly, your feet start to move, your arms begin to pop and lock, your waistline contorts left and right to the rhythm. THAT'S HOW ILL this beat is.
Aaahhhhh... What a lovely track, this has to be one of or thee best "freestyle" track of all time. I'm wonder why I didn't hear track or the term "freestyle"before all these years when I was into electro. I prefer to call this music Soulfull Electro but when did they start calling it Freestyle? And is it true that the his-spanic community have taken this style over? Anyone
This is both electro and freestyle. Freestyle came from electro and for a few years, from 1983 (or maybe even 1982)to about 1985, there were a lot of songs that were transitional, electro but heading for what would become freestyle. 1984, from when this song is, has tons of those kind of transitional tracks, a lot with R&B singers.
and by the way this IS freestyle just because she was black doesn't mean it's not freestyle I'm so tired of you people trying to break freestyle down into pieces if a singer is Latin then it's ok to call it freestyle?? come on...
This is freestyle, don't know what fool thinks this is not. Most of the latinos made lots of cheesy freestyle songs in the 80s, very few came with awesome tracks like this one beside Noel. Miami freestyle had more to offer, whites and blacks artists made the best freestyle honestly, no diss, Terry billy(Black)/ Mikki (Black)/ Expose(white)/Shannon(black) Camille(white) Jenny burton(black) Jimi tunnell (white) Lisa Fisher (black) Shantelle (Black) C-Bank (black) Janice (black) and so many more.
Yeah! Like Latin Rascals, Lizette Melendez, TKA, Jellybean, Brenda K. Starr, Judy Torrez, The Cover Girls, Sweet Sensation, Cynthia, Corina, Lisa Lisa (& cult jam), Sa-Fire, and many, many more... OOPS.. All latinos... and expose was mixed white and latina ladies.. But what matters is the music not the color of the people who made it.
@oschvelez Your 100% correct! thanks for standing up for Freestyle, it's guys like you and me who continue to keep freestyle alive....FREESTYLE WILL NEVER DIE!!!!
all you djs need to stop being so cheap and Buy the vinyl all you weasels just want everything for free that's why we have no good local labels anymore! assholes!!
This beat was pioneered in this early 80's, and lasted for a few years. In different shapes, but always regognizable. That's a long time for a dance beat. I think this must be the 909. It kept on rattling beats when the house scene kicked in, second half of the 80's. I witnessed it all.
HOLY FUCKIN SHIT!!!! This was my favorite tune back in the day, and IT STILL IS!!! I still love those chorus in the lyrics, "It's a love emergency, now here I come with the remedy, I know I've got just what you need." The DJs here in Chicago used to play the living shit out of it, and I love it!!!! Thanks for bringing back such awesome memories down Dance Lane :-D 5 stars all the way & faved :-D I wondered what's Mikki doing nowadays?
Is not this song simply amazing?? her voice is so sensual. You can picture her talking to her lover, leaves so much to creativity. that's the reason I love 80s disco-funk. Sex so much left to the imagination. great great tunes.
i was 20 when this record came out .....struggling in the real world .......and this music is what made it all worth while ......i was living this music ....and i still am today ....you are loved mikki rip love
My bad!! Seems she died in 2002 from liver cancer!! Much respect to her, that was a great voice, she and Renee diggs of starpoint will be truly missed!! May their music remain alive for long
I am being tortured so much right now, what's up with music today, feel how the music is going through you, unbearably, I got to move, it is too late, my feets are spinning!! lol
I feel today's music is uninspired. Dance songs don't stand out and have their own sound like in the disco era and 80's to early 90's. Some of the divas of today should be doing great dance songs with their strong vocals. There are a few standouts at the moment ie. Kristine W, Barbara Tucker, Amber, Alison Limerick and Joi Caldwell
