Many thanks Matze for that nice comment but totally undeserved. I hope I am making some progress with the accordion little by little! I wish my playing was fantastic! I appreciate FranzH sending you the video.
ohhhh come on now hehe not a problem but this is good stuff! keep up the good work. I'm going to subscribe to your videos when i'm done typing this :) cheers!!!!
Delighted to hear that you enjoy the accordion. My great accordion heroes were my fellow county man Richard Fitzgerald from Bundoran and, of course, the great Jimmy Shand.
yes about the man who went to find work in america but when he was over there he relised he would never make enogh money to come home. and one night he fell asleep and dreamt he was back home in county clare. bit of story telling for you there terry lol.
I love listening to this song, and reading your comment in the information column!

I have viewed and enjoyed all of your videos and also the info banter!
You have a natural ability to make a person feel that they are actually a guest, sitting in your parlour and having a great old fashioned party singalong! (A wonderful talent indeed)
Greetings from Ireland Frank and a sincere thank you for your kind compliments - much appreciated though undeserved!
We still have our house party singalaong but not as often as of yore - more's the pity. When next you visit Ireland bring along your guitar and we'll have a session.
Many thanks for the nice compliment. It is one of my very favourite songs. I first learned it from the late great Richie Fitzgerald of Bundoran. He and his brother Barney had a grat influence on me.
Many thanks for the encouragement Nina. You should try this little Irish song "Slievenamon". The title comes from the Gaelic (Irish language)and means "Ladies' mountain". Accordig to the old legend the local chieftain sat on top of the mountain and the eligible ladies had a race to the top. First there became the wife/lover of the chieftain!!!
The tradition no longer exists in Ireland.LOL Best wishes,
I enjoyed all 4 videos and great playing & hope to see more of them. What part of Ireland do you hail from,I was there on tour some years ago and enjoyed the music very much.
I appreciate your kind comments mem104. Glad you enjoyed the music. I come from County Donegal in the North West of Ireland. Because we had so much emigration from our county there are many Donegal ballads and I hope to post a few of them later.
Yes, Heidi it really is a lovely song but you need the words (text) to appreciate it fully. It deals with a young emigrant who has prospered in his new country but misses his sweetheart "in the valley near Slievenamon" in Ireland.
An alternative version of the history of the song suggests that it is an Irish rebel on the run from the authorities who cannot return to his girl. The composer Charles Kickham was such a rebel so it may be partly autobiographical.
This is really beautiful. The last time I heard a man play an accordion was in Switzerland many years ago now, he played Edelwiss, can you play that please? It is my favourite!! Thanks for sending Annette

I have an accordion group, eiight of us - all ladies - they would enjoy the irish wit and humour and your lovely playing.
I find the Scottish influence in your irish tunes delightful!
i see you have the true mark of an accordionist, too.- your watch on your right arm!
The Masons have their handshake - accordionists have their watches!!!
I have worn mine that way since I was twelve - too many years ago to remember how long!!
