That was thrilling to watch! Thanks for posting. I've been looking at the Boxster, too, and was happy to see that driving skill matters. How fast did you get on the straightaways? (The sound of your engine is AWESOME.)

no offence, but just a decent amateur driving..even no heel and toe, moreover your drive is too impronted to the understeer..the driver in front of you was just more inexperienced than you..slower..and let you go as it is used to do..what's special guy? anyway congratulations for the car, the 986 was a great car, a part from the 2.5l version..relatively slow and full of problems..
Well, I hope that you didn't expect professional racing here, I am an amateur, which by definition means that my primary means of income is NOT motor racing.
So I am in a 250 hp car and pass a car with 355 hp, so either the other driver forgot that he has 100+ hp more or maybe I am the better driver, or in your ("the glass is half empty") view of the world: I suck a little less than the other driver and I can live with that.
BTW: I do heel and toe, listen a little more closely
Well if the 5th Gear video proves that a Boxster can't be faster than a Carrera then my video must be fake, dude you nailed it.
Let me explain: Actually we were all going backwards around the track and I played the video in reverse order to make it look like I am reeling in the Carrera, or even better: I paid Lucas Films $100k to make a CGI movie of something which can't be done (a Boxster passing a Carrera on the track).
@ChrisZang Yeah I know how you feel. Nurburgring was on my list and when I finally got through the entrance gates i was on cloud 9. totally forgot about my girlfriend *who actually followed me all the way there just so i could do a couple of laps on it* and was literally smiling.... until the corners came at least. All I have access to when I don't travel is the Sepang F1 Circuit and it's not as good as it is hyped to be. The only real challenge is the weather.
haha wow so to understand how good of a driver you are you chased down and beat almost an identical car both rwd porsche and manual trans that had 100 more horses than you =crazy
@lukesimianer wow lets get something clear, it clearly looks like the carrera is not racing, also how dare you call a boxster and carrera similar...
I have a boxster and a 911 highly modded so I am a perfect person to call this, please get the boxster off the track and from I can see your trying to keep up with a car not racing..
Great video! How great to run Laguna Seca with the top down. Just added a new life goal to my list. :)
Oh, and thanks for the roll bar info below - I always have to run with the top up and dream of doing otherwise. Do the clubs you drive with require arm restraints as well? Any recommendations?
The track events i've attended allowed the factory rollbar in my '02 boxster s. the first was an scca event and the second was the miller motorsportspark in utah.
Did not hear you "blip"

@sub7AV Hmmm, my bubble is still intact.

Or maybe I was just faster ...

@ChrisZang you out to much sarcasim into that I dont understand what point your trying make?
no the video shows a limited edition boxster with pse still failing to beat a stock 996.
If I saw a boxster pull up with someone with a helmet on I would have a sneaky giggle.

Fantastic video. Nice audio. What year is the Boxster? How is the brake fade lap after lap? Are you still running it?
hou1nxb 3 years ago
Thanks for the comments :-)
The year is 2002.
I am using BHP XPS brake pads (equivalent to Pagid Blue) on the track so NO brake fade at all
Yes I am still running it (got a new engine in the meantime (IMS failure) but it's still the same car)

nice vid...are the factory roll bars on the boxsters enough for track events?
RingerRacing 3 years ago
nope. You have two options:
a) run with the top up (which I hate)
b) use the Brey-Krause rollbar extension with which I just barely pass "broomstick" ;-)
