i got my falcon II last year, that's a good backpack for everyday carry.
but there have two straps on the bottom, that's a little too long and i don't want to cut it cause you never know when you need to use them.So do you have any suggestion to hide it? thanks a lot.
for the suggestion about this video, i think you can have a headlight and multifunctional headwear in your edc bag, that's very useful in any weather.
@SNOmultimedia i get the pain as well. my sitka is pretty packed to the gills and i was thinking about upgrading to the kodiak but i think the pain in the neck from just one pack has convinced me to look to another maxped product.
i carry electrical tape. it is resistant to water, great for cuts, and has as many uses as duct tape in a smaller package. you could easily make a nice shelter with a role of it.
Can it carry low as well? not so high on your back?
And will it fit a laptop and a couple textbooks? because I want it for school AND hiking and stuff, but I can't afford to buy two, so I reaaally need to think it through.
I'm in doubt wether to go for this or for the Condor II; I love the looks on the Falcon II, but the Condor has more space :/
@EmptyEyesAccuse You can fit a small laptop and a couple of thickish textbooks. It doesn't have any edge padding specifically for a laptop, but I suspect it will be fine as long as you don't throw it around. For everyday carry, this size suits me well -- the condor would be too big.
@SNOmultimedia yea, I think I'm gonna get one as soon as I can, in black as well.. I actually like both packs! the Sitka and the Falcon II but the Sitka is more for a reduced carry I think, holds less.
Spot-on with the comment about the single-strap kneck-pain issues. I used a so-called courier-bag to carry my laptop etc, for about a year (similar concept to the Sitka). Result : pain and stiffness in the opposing shoulder and nape of the neck. Orthopedically, you can see that a two-shoulder carry-system makes more sense than a single-point when carrying any amount of weight. Now, I actually prefer the feel and concept of lumbar-bags, carried low and in the small of the back.
I like you. And this is the only video i've seen of yours. because you take time in your vids, you actually care about the turn out. thanks great comparison and review.
Snowman I bought myself the Kodiak which is a bit bigger than the Sitka with the intention to use as a EDC/Dayhike bag. "It works!!!" But I face the same dilemma with the one strap. Plus for a sling bag the Kodiak is so humongous and I am only 5 ft 9 inch tall so it looks kind of silly wearing it!
Planning to get myself the Falcon 2 and solve the problem.
Nice to see that you're back making great reviews again! All the best!
@Mik2point0 For EDC the Kodiak is a little big, so it's more suitable for a dayhike, like you said. But then if it's uncomfortable because of the one strap, that kinda defeats the whole purpose, lol. Bottom line, I think you made the right choice. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
@SNOmultimedia Woohoo! I just ordered the falcon II also in black and I must admit that your review/comparison helped to make the decision! Thanks Snowman! Keep the good work up!
@Mik2point0 Way to go! Another viewer recommended the small rolypoly from maxpedition for a water bottle pouch. I put it on the side of the bag with a 5-inch tactie and it works great. Thanks for watching!
@derfy26 For a minimalist BOB I can see how that would work. I use the Doppelbuffel so I can store more stuff, and then I keep it in the car. It has shoulder straps so you can wear it as a backpack, but not very far, LOL. Be sure to watch our video of the Doppelduffel
@rongallant Then I highly recommend one of the Maxpedition backpacks. Go to their web site and request their print catalog -- they have stuff in there that you don't find on the web site.

@krkicbb You can just tie the straps up -- that's what I've done. I like the headwear idea -- thanks!

@THEDUCKHUNTER1976 Yep, don't blame you a bit. If it didn't give me a nerve pain, I'd keep it too.

Use a carabiner to attach the water bottle to the molle webbing. It will just dangle.
