D.Sutherland and Brooke Adams were brilliant but I loved Jeff Goldblum and Veronica Cartwright the most - amazing screen couple. I guess this film inspired The Hidden (1987), Body Snatchers (1993), The Arrival (1996), Mimic (1997), The Faculty (1998), The Lake (1998), Slither (2006), The Invasion (2007), tv show Invasion (2005) etc. It deserved a sequel

She stopped to look around - if he'd said something she'd have walked to within reaching distance of him. Then he'd have definitely caught her and could then alerted the other pods for back-up if needed.

I remember reading a picture (photos of the film) novel of this when I was a kid during the 1990s and I wanted to really see the movie. Well it is a piece of crap. Bad acting and typical 1970s Watergate movie cliche of how government was using covert means to manipulate the people and make them mindless zombies to the establishment. The original 56 version had a very creepy shocking ending also--but the studio made them change it and slap on a happy ending. This one got away with showing what looks like the original 1950's dark ending. No, people have demanded it, but they still won't release a DVD of the uncensored 1950's version where the studio complained of naked pod people and the dark ending.
this version is the best period..understand?...that pig scream...the erie-ness...donald, and brook's chemistry...everything about it..not to mention leonard and jeff goldblumb.

so... she thought she was going to become a pod person? Did someone tell her that this was just a movie too? Did they do only one take with two cameras rolling? Or did Sutherland do the line reading for her reaction shot? By genuine I assume that she was able to integrate this surprise into the reaction her character gave, giving it the verisimilitude of a genuine reaction.
This goes both ways. In Holland we now have anti political correctness freaks who think all nuance is suspicious. By the way, be aware of the new generation of body snatchers: they have learned to smile and wink at you.
From Denny Zeitlin who did the music: I'm not sure why we didn't include it in the soundtrack album initially, or the 25th Anniversary CD release It may have been a copyright issue. Permission had been obtained to include the bagpipe version by the Royal Scotts Dragoon Guards, but I believe the version at the end was an electronically processed portion of the original, and permission to include it on the record may have been denied.

Only the director (Philip Kaufman), Donald Sutherland and W.D. Richter (screenplay writer) knew that Matthew had become a pod so when Matthew points and screeches at Nancy, Veronica Cartwright's reaction is real!
This ending surprised me. I really thought he was going to survive and be one of the last few. From the way he acted, I thought he was taking Veronica's character's advice and just hiding his emotions. Depressing ending but it works and that's why I like it lol

by far the best invasion movie...some scenes r hokey....but the filming...the strange angles....just great movie...the ending freaked me out when i first saw this......i was just a kid....late late movie.....and he screams it goes to black and no music for the end credits.....creepy

Idea for a new meme: The detective with curly hair is pointing and screaming at the girl unaffiliated by the aliens... his eyes all open wide as dinner plates and his moth like dick goes here big and he points with crooked finger of alien pokey justice....screaming with captions on demotivator or photoshop text screaming "AAAAAAAAIIIIIIDDDSSSSSS"

great acting and directing alos... at first i thought that he was pretending for all that time to be one of them and getting away with it, it was brilliant, the ending of this movie is one of those great movies that makes you think more about the movie... lol like i was wondering how on earth would the girl have gone about all this and not get caught, and that at the end thinking about how the guy got taken too... lol

The original 56 version had a very creepy shocking ending also--but the studio made them change it and slap on a happy ending. This one got away with showing what looks like the original 1950's dark ending. No, people have demanded it, but they still won't release a DVD of the uncensored 1950's version where the studio complained of naked pod people and the dark ending.

so... she thought she was going to become a pod person? Did someone tell her that this was just a movie too? Did they do only one take with two cameras rolling? Or did Sutherland do the line reading for her reaction shot? By genuine I assume that she was able to integrate this surprise into the reaction her character gave, giving it the verisimilitude of a genuine reaction.

From Denny Zeitlin who did the music: I'm not sure why we didn't include it in the soundtrack album initially, or the 25th Anniversary CD release It may have been a copyright issue. Permission had been obtained to include the bagpipe version by the Royal Scotts Dragoon Guards, but I believe the version at the end was an electronically processed portion of the original, and permission to include it on the record may have been denied.

it works horribly beautifully in that scene. I don't remember doing it on a synthesizer ( my main synth for the project was the then brand-new Prophet 10 voice made by Sequential Circuits)

Only the director (Philip Kaufman), Donald Sutherland and W.D. Richter (screenplay writer) knew that Matthew had become a pod so when Matthew points and screeches at Nancy, Veronica Cartwright's reaction is real!

This ending surprised me. I really thought he was going to survive and be one of the last few. From the way he acted, I thought he was taking Veronica's character's advice and just hiding his emotions. Depressing ending but it works and that's why I like it lol
