For me, true metal is the metal which never get old, the metal songs which always are good and don't get out of fashion, That's true metal. Metalcore and some nu metal bands, not all, are false metal. I like almost all of genres of metal, bands like Iron Maiden, Metallica, AD/DC, Judas Priest, Blind Guardian, Rhapsody, Poison or System Of A Down. But the true is, that the metal's gods are these: Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica and AC/DC (even though they aren't exactly metal)
all Metal is Metal that is just it Dragonforce, Slipknot and Korn are metal might be hard to believe but what genre are they closest to?...Metal...Dragonforce is Speed/Power metal Slipknot is Nu-Metal which is a type of Metal.
i don't think it's really a case of 'real' vs 'false' metal.. more like 'old' vs 'new'. metal's changed.. doesn't mean that it's not real. It just means that the modern interpretation of the term 'metal' has changed - the older 'real' metal bands will eventually be classified as a different genre or "old-school metal" or "classic metal".
It's unfortunate, as I think it should be the other way around. ie, metal stays metal forever and 'new metal' is called something else

Well it was thanks to nu-metal that I actually got into any form of heavy music because not everybody listens to cannibal corpse and morbid angel for the first time and actually like it because I didnt to start with. I love death metal and have for many years but just saying that things like these sub genres actually help in getting new fans to kick ass bands like CC,MA, Nile, Meshuggah etc.

Yeah, I completely agree with you. But I feel that Metalcore/Deathcore is better than any other genre of music not metal. I think it is better than modern rock, rap, hip hop, r and b, pop, alternative rock, punk, and grindcore. I only like Hard Rock, Numetal and Classic Rock more than the Cores.

It has, actually, very little Metal influence in it, having more alternative rock and rap influence than anything. What instruments have they put into their music? What different sounds? Being experimental doesn't make you good. Being good makes you good.
And as metal was achieved through experimenting, this makes Slipknot more like the roots of metal than any "new" band from 80-00. All in all, metal was found by experimenting. And Slipknot has simply just evolutionized metal. Music for little brats, you say? Then what about Metallica? No one over the age of 12 (except for a few) can possibly like them? And lyrics?

I started listening to AC/DC, and after 2 years of hard rock, a friend showed me a song of Suicide Silence. I got into Death Core and Math Core. Meshuggah was my favorite band after that. I acted mostly like yourself, really. "Everything else than what i like, is shit." Then, my taste just popped. There's little music in it. Burping, palm mutes, some scalatic repetitions... Then i got into Hammerfall and Sonata Arctica. I was never into "true" metal. Most of the lyrics are terrible, most of the songs use exactly the same progressions, and they use the same scalas. After many years of listening to music, you stop caring about that it has to be underground, or old-school, or sing about a specific thing, or sound like one specific thing, etc. The only thing that matters, is that it sounds good, that it basically gives joy to listen to. And most thrash sounds like crap in terms of soundquality. Almost no middle, very high treble, and sometimes, low bass. And most definitions of these "real metal" things are what you grow up from.

Well it was thanks to nu-metal that I actually got into any form of heavy music because not everybody listens to cannibal corpse and morbid angel for the first time and actually like it because I didnt to start with. I love death metal and have for many years but just saying that things like these sub genres actually help in getting new fans to kick ass bands like CC,MA, Nile, Meshuggah etc.

Yeah, I completely agree with you. But I feel that Metalcore/Deathcore is better than any other genre of music not metal. I think it is better than modern rock, rap, hip hop, r and b, pop, alternative rock, punk, and grindcore. I only like Hard Rock, Numetal and Classic Rock more than the Cores.

KoRn started nu metal. nu metal sucks, KoRn saw this and doesnt even call themselves nu metal anymore. yes KoRn does have a lot of hip-hop influnce on some of there songs, but if anything as they have played and wrote more songs, if anything they have become more metal. u can hate emos, core kids, and pozers. but dont hate bands that r just trying to mix it up.

All these bands, even LP and Aiden are metalbands. So what Korn does is something else entirely because what METAL really is was established long before KORN or any of these other bands.

That bands as Korn, KSE, Lamb of God and Whitechapel play hard music less traditional and in their own way, doesnt mean that it isnt metal! They all got the same in common: the high volume, heavy sound and sinister atmosphere. The sound that the guys from sabbath called Heavy Metal, but thank God, in different ways! \m/

It has, actually, very little Metal influence in it, having more alternative rock and rap influence than anything. You'd have a better chance of arguing -core is Metal, and you still wouldn't succeed.
What instruments have they put into their music? What different sounds? Being experimental doesn't make you good. Being good makes you good.

Their entry-level shit right alongside Panterrible, Bodom, Slipknot and Cannibal Corpse. I started listening to AC/DC, and after 2 years of hard rock, a friend showed me a song of Suicide Silence. I got into Death Core and Math Core. Meshuggah was my favorite band after that. I acted mostly like yourself, really. "Everything else than what i like, is shit." Then, my taste just popped. There's little music in it. Burping, palm mutes, some scalatic repetitions... Then i got into Hammerfall and Sonata Arctica. I was never into "true" metal. Most of the lyrics are terrible, most of the songs use exactly the same progressions, and they use the same scalas. Pantera, Metallica, Megadeth, boring. I was into Slayer for a while, though. But i got a sence for melody. Bodom has got the best melodies in the metal world. I still listen to Nightwish, also for their melodies. In Flames, same reason. Slipknot, for the orgininality that only they have

After many years of listening to music, you stop caring about that it has to be underground, or old-school, or sing about a specific thing, or sound like one specific thing, etc. The only thing that matters, is that it sounds good, that it basically gives joy to listen to. And most thrash sounds like crap in terms of soundquality. Almost no middle, very high treble, and sometimes, low bass. And most definitions of these "real metal" things are what you grow up from.
