I dont claim to know his motives for using "god damn" in his lyrics but I actually think its kinda fitting. You have to think outside of the box and look past the whole "lords name and vain", try and see the motive behind the phrase..GOD and DAMNATION, put those two words together and what do you get?? How many christians have we heard running around damning ppl in the name of god without even realizing it. And hurting ppl in the process especially when discusing the end times.

we give language, and more specifically "curse words", a lot of power and he fully utilizes the emphasis they can carry to make a point. Every time you hear him say Fuck or something it shocks you into paying more attention these songs wouldn't be the same and are therefore better with the cursing.
