  • greetings from czech republic

  • Бывший военный городок базы балтфлота.

  • I'm from Klaipeda and recently I've visited Karosta, so..what I saw it surprised me, I couldn't imagine there was so poor district in Liepaja.. I saw bunch of dirty children in the dump next to one block of flats ant they were searching for metal parts in the broken fridgerator.. Actually I don't like russians, but that day I felt sorry for them that they have to live in that poor district, damn it seemed dangerous!

  • im just wondering, is there people living there ?

  • @drspendy yes there lives people

  • baig laba dziesma :D

  • sommer in Karosta! yeah :)

  • Was there in okt 1996,so already 13 yrs ago, when you Suksitis were only 10 yrs! Wonder how it has changed.I stayed with friends in one of the now empty flats close to the cathedral. Also in extreme cold winter january 1997 Been around in Latvia during a month, also Lithuania Klaipeda,Palanga, Kuldiga,Riga,Ventspils but mostly Liepaja which was still very poor and dangerous.Visited a very old banha and saw old Jewish grave close to the town Very little available then, left my car there for a friend

  • wow! that church at 0.36 is gorgeous! it has a very defined style. very beautiful. it should be in articles about European culture and architecture

  • Yes there are a lot of bad things that have appened there. If you go to the beach you can find human bones.

But the people who live there seem to really love it. It means so much to them.

There's a really great documentry called 'Karosta' watch it and you'll start to see the beauty of the place. I saw it last night at the lantern media festival.

  • Also if you go there at night you can get stabbed the shit out of you, beaten up, robbed and for women - raped by Russian gangs. Been there, got beaten up, never going there at night there again.

  • Im sorry it happened to you. Unfortunatelly, Latvia was never decolonised after the 50 year long soviet occupation and russification period. The result is - all largest cities in Latvia are full of russians, most of them - very unpleasant people, even agressive like those gangs. Karosta has particularly high percentage of russians as it used to be a military site. But it is a very beautiful place and the sights can be seen much better in daylight.

  • Jā es zinu :) Esmu Liepājnieks lol

  • bellissimo....ciao

  • Vai tu varētu pateikt, kas izpilda fonā dzirdamo dziesmu un kāds ir tās nosaukums?

    - Can you tell me, please, who sing this song?

  • It was one the best things I have seen for now, there is more to see underground, about these North forts so I suggest you to look for more information about this place ;)

  • Mana milja Karostaaa

  • Terrible Music but very cool video. 5 Stars.

  • A question, if I may; what would holy buildings have been used for when the Communists were in power?

  • The cathedral was used as a cinema and as a gym for soldiers during the soviet occupation years. After regaining the independence of Latvia, the cathedral started to function as a church again. The interior was damaged during the soviet times and it can still be seen inside there, because not everything is reconstructed yet as it was before those cinema and gym times. It costs big money to make it all nice again. :)

  • Very good. Thank you so much for the information. believe it or not it can still be difficult to find information as to how things were while the Bolsheviks were in power.

  • Savadi skatities video par vietu, kur dzivo...

  • es dzivoju karosta man tur patik es dzivoju biski talak no ta sarkana udens torna :)

  • Forši! :)

Es nezinaju, ka te ir arī latviešu video!

Turpini lielisko darbu 5 zvaigznes :)

  • Paldies. Man patikas.

  • Nekadnekadnekad negribētu dzīvot karostā.

    Šausmīga vieta. :/

  • Nice video, beautiful music. I've always thought Enya's music is a perfect match for travel through Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. I have travelled to Klaipeda (my moms birthplace) several times without spending time in Liepaja. Next time, I will visit Liepaja.

  • Yes, do so, because it is just 100km from Klaipeda and there is so much to see in Liepaja / Karosta! :)

  • Man prieks ka tev patīk, bet es personīgi tur nedzīvotu. :D

  • Video būtu labs, ja vien fotogrāfijas visu laiku neatkārtotos.... :D :D

  • karostas cietums i will be visiting there next year when i go 2 liepaja for janiem with my friends who are from liepaja hopefully we will spend the night as well beautiful video man loti patic

  • Thanks! Make sure to visit also other places, not just the cietums (prison). In this video you can see how many great places there are in Karosta! And visit the city center too! Climb the tower of Trinity church and see the enormous church-organ! And visit the lakeside! :) Have a nice Liepaja visit!

  • i intend to see as much of latvia as i can and also party a lot with my friends for 23 junis we will also be going to riga and lithuania for a few days again nice video it shows how beautiful latvia is

  • The piece of old military&nature romance! I loved this video - thanks! Well done! :)

  • Video is Great! :)

    P.S. I live in there 4 years!

  • 3:55 is the 'haunted' prison. I spent the night there and the guide informed me of the lot across the street from the prison (there are some old garages there now) was formally the site of a mass grave of some 200 people.

  • Great Video! I was there 2 years ago! Followed the road to the Baltic seashore and the concrete ruins along the water! On a clear day I could see Sweden. The Church was beautiful and seemed out of place. The half built apartments were a testament to the Soviet collapse.

  • I`m glad you were there and enjoyed it. Sweden is about 250 km far, so you could not see it. :) The apartments are not half built. They are complete and were all inhabitet until 1994, when the Soviet Army had to leave Latvia, which had gained it`s independence again. I agree, these empty apartment blocks are very symbolic for the Soviet collapse and they should be preserved as monuments of history, but I`m afraid they will be demolished in a few years.

  • Ask locals for matrix hut people! There is a lil hut in the crushed forts where u can stand in like 45 degrees :) really wierd place. (thats not just cos that hut is already standing in 45 degrees) ;)

  • Suksitis what did you live in? Co. Louth here.

  • Cathair Phort Lairge / Waterford city. :)

  • My next door neirbours here in Ireland is Latvians

  • I used to live in Ireland, too! :)

  • Yes, there are about 7000 inhabitants still living there. Well, I dont know how many ghost towns are in the whole SU area, its huge, but in Latvia there are some more - those are all former military (army) towns, but this one, Karosta in Liepaja city is the biggest and the most interesting, because it is older, has many objects from Russian Empire times, not just from Soviet Union times. :)

  • Does anyone still live there? How many ghost towns are there in the former Soviet Union? ie Cherynobyl is one of them!

  • Thank you for this pictures.

  • I'm guessing this town was a product of the Soviet era?

  • History of this town started more than 100 years ago, by an order of Tsar of the Russian Empire (Area what is now Latvia was then part of Russian Empire). Then it was in the first independent Latvia (1918-1941), then it was under the Soviet occupation regime, and in 1994 the soviet army had to leave and now it is still a very different and interesting place... :)

  • I enjoyed this. Visited Karosta in October 2006. I will be coming back there soon. Would like to take a closer look. Any suggestions?

  • :) Enjoy!

  • nu labs,Marci! es jau uzreiz zinaju ka tas Tu!

    malacis!
