What I don't get is, when anyone from Latin America calls themselves Latino, some White people get angry and say "no, you are not Latinos, Italians, Spaniards, etc. are Latin. You are Indians." Then when we say we're Indians, they say "You have just as much Latin blood as we do, you're Latin." And they won't even let us identify as mixed most of the time.
Ok, most mexican people, are of mixed ancestry, spanish and "native americans"; according to some people its wrong to call this people "hispanics" because they have "native american" blood, so is it correct to call this people "native americans" even though they have spanish blood.
Carlos, u were a bit hard on him don't you think? (Smile) We know the term Hispanic is a catch-all term that includes all Spanish speaking peoples. Native American are counted separately & independly on tribal lists & government rolls as they are a sovereign nation. However, for those of us that share Amerindian, European, and African DNA and may or may not speak Spanish are the ones that fall under the Hispanic umbrella. Add a category for those who identifiy as Amerindian & every1s happy! No?
we are like the child that neither the father or mother want africans are from africa white r from europes asians r from asia and us well they wanna kick us out from ourown house by the way iam not hispanic.
Hispanic is a false label as well as Latin, Latino or Latin American.
Italians and Romans are Latin, Hispanics are from spain and that is that. as far as people calling themselves that well that is an indication of self hate because western cuture has colonized indigenus people not just physically but mentally. It is nothing to argue about, Hispanic and Latino are wrong terms that hurt the Native American people labeled as hispanic.
I was in Lanzarote and the local bartender referred to the South American as Hispaniola. It's their own word as Spanish is the language in Mexico southwards (apart from Brazil) Its a crazy argument. He called the American Anglo-Saxon how the hell does he know he is Anglo-Saxon ? His family might be from Russia Finland or Turkey. The English are called Anglo-Saxon, yet most are of Celto-Iberian decent (80 to 90 %) but they dont go ranting on about it ! Lets be honest they only want western money
I like the way it is being put to these ignorant people, to see the reality. What I don't like it's the way latin people is taking advantage of this, just because it could give them a better status concerning to migration. I'm native american, and I'm proud of my heritage in my own country (not US), because I met with it long ago, since I was born I could say. We must be proud ALWAYS, not when it is convenient. Our ancestors deserve respect.
Very good Job Carlos!!!! Keep the good work ... Mark just doesn't have the answers for you because he's probably been manipulated/paid to drive the true motivations of an organization like he works for.
I used to work with people from Oaxaca and other southern mexican states, and they told me I was güerito, and my skin is brown! but comparing with theirs... well?
My mom is very white and my dad is white-redish hehe! my sisters are white and my brothers and I are tan skinned, but they call me 'negro' cause I'm darker. =P
my hair is very curly and long, I got it straight for the holidays and my mother in law said I looked like Apache. And we had Apaches in Chihuahua! so, who knows!!! =D
@IslenoGutierrez My father is a white Mexican but he's not Spanish, he's of Irish and Nordic descent. So don't be fooled into thinking that all white Mexicans are Spaniards.
I'm Latino, and I don't want to kick my illegal brothers out. I don't mind if they stay, but they really can't dispute anything if they are here illegally. Because now everyone has to pay their taxes, they have to get their social security number etc.
This guy is avoiding the truth. Native Americans have been rob. They're not even allow to proclaim their rightful lineage. I may not be of Native American descent but I am outrage by the treatment they are subjected to:(
FUCKING A!!!!!man Carlos you nailed that fucker you interviewed right on the spot!!! I AM SO GLAD THAT OUR COMMUNITY IS BEGINNING TO WAKE UP!!!! hoooooot hoooo! cheers! thumbs up, favorited, and shall be shared! 5/5!
PEACE and PROPS to your courageous work as a blogger and independent journalist! INDIGENOUS PEOPLE ARE NOT HISPANIC NOT LATINO!
I think you are making a big deal out of what to call yourself. If you don't like being called Hispanic, then that's fine, but don't tell the rest of us that we can't consider ourselves Hispanics. After all, it's just a label. Human beings are so much more complex than that.
I think that we as a community should focus more on embracing American culture, rather than focusing on a culture that drove us into poverty and ignorance.
@ChampsElysees100 No disrespect , When I think of what my grandparents went through and their parents witnessing their brothers and sisters murdered ...and HOW it has affected our people into Gangs, Drug Dealing Which is not a part of ANYONE's Culture...We have to make it a better place for the sake of those who died, and they did not die because of our way of life...they died because we would not call ourselves white, latino, hispanic, and they Muredered our people for greed.
Read the racist history of this state of Arizona. Pro-slavery, pro-white-supremacy, anti-non-white, and now this law which conveniently dances around the fact that this is ALL ABOUT WHITE SUPREMACY. Just look at the follow up bill BANNING ETHNIC STUDIES that is now on Brewer's desk for signing. If it quacks like a duck, has feathers, and flys like a duck you call it a duck. In this case this all smells of white supremacy, let's call it white supremacy
Other great example of your journalistic skills, Carlos! Tlazocamati ica inin ixiptlayolin! (Thanx 4 this vid!) Many Vietnamese. Calling Spanish-speaking indigenous people hispanic, Latino, etc. is pure arbitrariness!
@srikrishnajay but you have to understand that majority of the "native americans" that are protesting against the USA gov arn't the iroquois, cherokee, & navajo; its aztecs, mayans, and pipils of central america. its not fair that they ride the native american wave IOT get rights. i don't support this at all, mayb if they say they are hispanics with native american blood

he said " we asked about the nations largest ETHNIC group" notice he asked for ethnicity not race. hispanic/latino is an ethnic group not a race so i see nothing wrong with the question. and the reason he can't call other groups anglos is because english speakers are more divers.
Saying Latino/Hispanic is an ethnic group is no different than saying Anglo is an ethnic group.
That's like Wesley Snipes and Adam Beach calling themselves Anglos, and I don't see that happening, hence why the terminology Latino/Hispanic is incredibly flawed.

Except Spain, Canary Islands, and Equatoral Guinea.
French is mostly spoken in Africa. Why not include Francic? Why single out "Hispanic/Latino". Brazilians are not hispanic, yet they are sometimes classified as latino. What would they put on the census?
@iamthebest91 but my reason to disagree is that at da moment people dont need this division abt being native americans bcuz its gona start controversy. right nw we are all under the latino/hispanic umbrella. carlos shud wait later 2 do all this
The U.S. Census Bureau does not include Brazilians as Latinos either. I would expect they'd put down whatever their race/ethnicity is. I'm Brazilian, and I always check off black only in papers when my ethnicity is in question, since I'm of Afro-Brazilian background.
However, Spaniards are considered Hispanic by the U.S. Census Bureau, but not Latino. I have a Spanish-French acquaintance, and she told me she can benefit from Hispanic college funds, since she's considered a minority.
What I don't get is, when anyone from Latin America calls themselves Latino, some White people get angry and say "no, you are not Latinos, Italians, Spaniards, etc. are Latin. You are Indians." ♦Indigenous peoples are NOT immigrants.
♦Indigenous peoples are migrants!!! [There is a difference!]
♣European-Americans are the IMMIGRANTS.
•Definition of IMMIGRANT:a person who comes to a country (The "Americas") where they were not born in order to settle there!
•Definition of MIGRANT:habitually moving from place to place.
☻Indigenous peoples were here before European-Americans and the peoples they brought with them to slave!
