OMG OMG you used AM on a full scale!!! take it you didnt go too far away , watch some kid using a toy by shore will cross bind and Blam!! into the docks you go . 2.4ghz anyone ???
So when you "Abandon" the fully sea-worthy vessel to operate under Remote control, are you covered for the subsequent salvage claims should some get a line onboard?
notthet this isnt cool or anything its not the biggest rc boat we were on our boat in catalina and 65 ft viking came in with one person on it piching up a mooring and that on guy went up to the bow and controlled the boat with a remote no bigger than a computer mouse it had bow and stern thruster controlls and fron and backcontrolled but other than that cool video\
Ummmm.....great concept. But there's no sheet control system for the sail trim. I guess there would be no way to tail the winches, though, which is probably why you left that important aspect of sailing out.
@freewillytoo Obviously, if we were to fully automate this boat for R/C, we'd have included many such important aspects. For an hour-long project done on a whim on an uneventful afternoon, though, this served us just fine.
Now you just have to get a basic stamp and a gps chip...you can program that sail boat to go anywhere. An auto pilot for less than a two hundred bucks......... ;-) All kidding aside, Great Job!
@harmsworth1 Haha! Now that would be a video! Sorry we haven't been able to meet up - our recent videos have been shot in rare bouts of spare time in an otherwise-busy schedule. Don't want you to think we're ignoring you!
@Dirtboy101 You know, I thought about that before I posted. I love those guys - but I don't remember them doing an R/C boat that's bigger. I know they've done a couple 17- and maybe 21-footers ...
Cool Video. I wanted to let you know that I've added it to our R/C forum called RadioControlPower . Com. Your welcome to post more videos on our site.
@Rapidnadion You're welcome to post all of them if you like.. :) When you do, please make sure that you include some text along with the video and keep the outgoing links to a minimum. If you have any questions, let me know.

How do you operate the sails?
Bullaanful 4 months ago
@Bullaanful We can't, sadly - this small project was just a tiller-mover.
Rapidnadion 4 months ago
Pretty cool but not the biggest RC boat by far. I worked an a couple 150+ ft yachts that if needed, could be steered 100% remotely.

@941BadFish Yeah;the title is a little spectacular.

Brilliant! I´d´ve gone for 2.4 gHz as shartsandbagels suggests, though...

@shartsandbagels Very little danger of that here. Not a populous area, and we're the only R/C guys doing anything within a few miles' radius.

Not the biggest ever!

marie25544 9 months ago
@marie25544 The boat? Lots! :) As far as the autopilot and the servo goes ... you can get them for quite cheap nowadays.

you could really mess with some people with that..
