It isnt the "12th fret", but rather the middle of the string.

You are turning the one big open string wave packet into 2 smaller ones, thus raising the frequency x2! :)

and then you can create 3 wave packets, and 4.. etc for even higher pitches

This " ghost " picking.. was kind of very hard to learn.

@mesamarai You place your index finger over the 12th fret and pluck it with one of your other 4 fingers on your right hand (I use thumb on bass notes and pinky on the higher melody notes). These are called harp harmonics. They allow you to play single note harmonics with just your right hand, so it frees up your left hand.

How do you make that sound at 0:40, the high pitch note. It looks like you just touched the string and sounds like magic came out.

He plays a natural harmonic by placing his pointer finger over the twelth fret [octave of the high E string] and plucks it with either his pinky or ring finger. You can also produce more natural harmonics by playing any string and any fret and placing your pointer finger on it's octave and plucking as mentioned before. For example, you can fret the 3rd fret on any string and place your left pointer finger over the 15th fret lightly and pluck with your ring or pinky finger :) enjoy

I think he actually touches the string with his "little" finger and plays it with the

index finger. He plays a harmonic. The technique behind that is that you dont press the string you just touch it with one finger and play it with another finger. This technique works best on the 5th, 7th and 12th fret.

@Nives7777777 What i do is hold down the E string 12th fret with my pointer finger and pluck with my thumb. All this is done with the finger picking hand. I was having the same problem but then i realized that that's what he was doing. Except he uses his middle finger to pluck it I think.

Lol.. It's artificial harmonics. :D If you know what a natural harmonic is then it takes you about 2 seconds to figure out what and how he's paying these things... If you don't know what a N.H. is then go check some tutorials on it. It's a great technique to know.

@JoshWithHisCello Like at 0:33? I believe that he uses his index finger to push the fret down and then uses his thumb to pluck. To change the pitch, he simply puts a finger from his left hand on the appropriate fret and then uses the previously mentioned method on the fret twelve strings up from the fret.
