Religion is certainly a convenient banner to rally people around. And there are plenty of "true believer" dupes in the ranks. But the Crusades didn't happen because God was in a pissing contest with Allah. The Crusades happened because the Turks were attacking Constantinople (so they could take their stuff) and the Crusaders were more than eager to drive them away and occupy the holy land for 100 years (previously the Turks' stuff). thank you for your opinion. I am against the 2nd amendment, but amendments can be added and removed ( thats why they are great) as for the 1st amendment, there is a time and place for everyting.
I have never participated in ritual flag burnings and would not be for it. and as for communism, well I am not a huge fan, I do however support some socialist ideals like giving our veterans government healthcare. do they not deserve it?

I do know what religion and clinging to an ideology of us vs. them has brought about - much of it in the name of religion or the comments like "God Loves my country (or smiles on it or what ever). This in addition to resource craving - usually the "West" craving something of value from a poorer country, esp oil. Then we leave that nation in the toilet with pollution, poverty and a dictator or two. So we can satisfy our craving of material CRAP at a cheap price.

"Under God" added in 1954 - was not in the pledge before that. I don't believe in God per se but do believe America. I certainly don't believe that we have some special place in some fairy tale's 'mind'...any more than I believe "he" gives a shit who wins an Emmy, who wins a football game, who makes it to the fucking top 10 on American Idol, etc etc etc.
