@REVERENDBLACK1 Wix is paper media, the fleet guard kicks it's ass in every aspect. If you want a good filer use Amsoil or Royal Purple oil filters. The FRAM Extended Guard is not bad also as it has a metal screen and synthetic fiber.
@JayzBeerz no man wix is a really good oil filter amsoil makes very good ones to i think their the best right next to their oil and amsoil also sells wix and amsoil is big about having the best
And if the filter element comes apart on your car who gives a shit about measuring the micron filtration. If it comes apart or has huge gaps in the element it fails even if it has the worlds best filter element. And I guarantee they don't use even a decent element in the first two or three levels of their filters. Fram, STP ect. are garbage. Spend an extra dollar and protect your $4000+ engine. Oil and Oil filters are not things to cheap out on.
When it comes to Fram, terrible quality control, weak and inferior materials and failure. I have had two filters fail on me. They came apart on the inside and the filter was sliding around inside the can. Napkin in a beer can is all they are. If you love Fram go ahead keep buying them. No one on here is making you switch. But when that Fram lets you or a friend down then you will see what people are talking about. Cheap crumbly filter element and end caps means cheap junk.
how do the mopar oil filters compare to the fleetguard?....i've always used fleetguard but i just realized that i could get mopar oil filters for my truck at wal-mart cheaper so i picked up a mopar....
It really won't make much difference what filter you buy as long as you change it and the oil around 3000 to 5000 miles. don't believe that crap about synthetics going 10,000 miles. While synthetic may hold up for 10,000 your filter will be long past due for changing and crap in the oil will start to wear on your engine.
Fleetguard is now sold under Cummins Filtration brand name (I know I work for Cummins) and of course you can find them at any Cummins dealer or Cummins Distributor in N.A.
If you look at other videos and comparisons of Fram filters you will see that the build quality sucks. They have gaps, miss crimped elements. I had one come apart inside and it was sliding back and fourth in the filter can. Junk, junk, junk. Paper end caps means oil getting around the element. You don't need to be a scientist to realize they are junk once you open one up.
@DOHC66 For whatever reason, all the videos are the cheap orange frams. They have better filters, would like to see results of Xtended Guard. For what its worth, been using "parts master" filters with no problems. 2 bucks a piece
@sbond1963 The Extended guard is better but really is only as good as the average other filter. Purolator is one of the best for the price. They don't come apart and use decent materials with good quality control. Why pay for an extended Guard when there is better for cheaper. Plus, even if they use a decent filter element, Fram quality control is notoriously bad so why take the chance.
@DOHC66 Its a beater 02 camry 2.4l. 141k. Got it cheap, bad valve seals. Trying different filters and oil out. The first M1 high mileage oil run was a tsunami of sludge, so I'm looking for capacity over efficiency for now. Bob the oil guy says the XG is good for that, so I tried it. Goal is eventual 10k M1 OCI's. testing on this beater to see what happens. So far so good. BTW the M1 HMO dropped oil consumption dramatically
@DOHC66 The other thing I failed to mention is...convenience. Wallyworld is loaded with M1 and Frams. Wonder who makes the the "Super Tech" filter....
I just spent an hour looking for fleetguard filters for a car and pickups, all the results come up for diesel. is there filters for everyday automobiles? and please dont come back and call me a moron, if you want to help, just give a site...
One cannot say "best" just on looks people!!!,,yes build quality is important also BUT to say best you need to know filtering ability's/efficiency's,,beta ratios,,and flow characteristics to each filter being examined and then decide witch one fits your application the best.
these videos are a joke mostly, lots of BAD/wrong info, please educate your self BEFORE making and posting these videos!
So another meathead is claiming 'best filter' by looking at it and saying 'metal caps'. What scientific tests have you conducted on filtration efficiency? Mircon level? Bypass pressure? NOTHING. Another internet genius and a camcorder. They should charge to post on youtube so the FUD like this is filtered out.
dude, the wix filter is the best. open it and youll see. the media is glass enhanced media, coil spring to put pos. pressure on the filter, silicone antidrain back valve that will trounce the fleetguard. Wix is the best. they even make filters for nuclear facilities.
you know i wonder why there were so many of those damn frams and whats the big deal about the metal does that even matter i would like to know cause i never changed my own oil b4
YOU HAVE ONLY COMPARED A PARTIAL SAMPLING OF FILTER BRANDS.
You need to add other filter manufacturers such as Baldwin, Luberfiner, CAT, Case, John Deere etc., to compare with the other truck & equipment filter Fleetguard.
You also left out Infinia's Wix and Auto Extra filter plus Amsoil which are one of the best filters on the market even if they are pricier.
So how much more dirt is stopped with the fleetguard as opposed to the STP? How do the steel ends on the filters make the filter better than the one with the paper ends? I'm sure you must be basing this on something other than feel and looks. Do you have any unbiased lab test results which show that more dirt was kept out based on these materials.
@mikeSr1963 Using basic common sense, just by looking at the paper and flimsyness of the Fram and STP, I would not buy them. As far as science and bias goes, this test isn't that. As far as common sense goes, the Fleetguard is the best.
Be careful some filter manufacturers will 'make' or scew the test to make there shit 'look' better. Make sure they are using ISO and SAE test standards!! Efficiency and capacity are also very important in filtration. Dont get caught up in the micron rating BS.
I dont care who you are or how super your eyes are. You CAN NOT tell by just LOOKING at a filter media if one is better that the other PERIOD !! I can tell you that a Fram is a five micron filter and its true. I can also tell you that a fram is a one micron filter and its true. You CAN NOT JUST TALK MICRON RATINGS!!! CAN NOT !!! You must have an EFFICIENCY with the micron rating !!!
AT 1 micron it might be 5% efficient at traping that size and at 10 micron it may be 30% efficient !!
Stay away from AC Delco!!! They are now made by Champion Labs (Ecore design) = JUNK. For automotive applications a safe bet is Purolator PureOne, most auto parts stores carry them. In the same price range, Baldwin is better yet - if you can find them that is. Beyond that, you'll pay nearly double for a WIX, which is a good filter, but not twice as good as a Baldwin or a Purolator PureOne.
@hjewell2 Champion's Ecore design is a cheap economy filter, personally I'd never use one. As I mentioned, look into Purolator PureOne filters. I believe they are 20 micron. Another good choice is Napa Gold, they are repackaged WIX filters but at a lower price.
Thanks for the info! It's good to have some updated info since the
Russ W. Knize oil filter study has not been updated in some time.
Apparently, since then, Bosch has changed from being a Champion Labs filter to a Purolator (string around filter) Pure one (red=silicone anti-drainback valve) clone. STP has changed from being Champion Labs to Fram maybe?
Please make another video with other brands and no music.
the fleetgaurd filter is equivalent to amsoil filters because they both have the same synthetic filter material and you can get amsoil filters in stores rather than ordering the fleetgaurd
cool video, but it doesn't tell me anything about how the filters actually perform. high marks where given to filters with more metal. does this translate into better performance? how do we know? also, high marks where given to filters with more filter media. Might this also mean more oil flow restriction and thus lower oil pressure?
it doesn't surprise me one bit about fram filters being junk..........i've never had a problem with fram but I will never use another fram again.........i'm now using wix
the critical thing to be looking at is how well the filter elements filter and hold the debris. I really don't think the contruction is critical. You don't want a filter that is too restrictive as it will be a bottleneck and make the oil pump work harder and reduce overall oil pressure.
The STP and AC delco are the same filter. They are junk. I also use to use fram filters a couple of years ago as well. I would always have lifter noise at start up but I thought it was normal for an old car until I used a mobil 1 oil filter and the noise went away. I now use WIX oil filters because they are afordable and work just as good as the mobil 1 oil filters, $12.99 is way too much for an oil filter just because is has the mobil 1 name on it.
I've been usin STP over Fram. The STP I get has metal end caps. I just used a Mobil 1 out of curiosity and changed with an STP. Good back to regular. My dad threw out my Mobil 1 and Fram out of his car before I got to split the can.
i hear K& N are good. ive read horrible things about fram and have stopped using them. they have paper which will fall apart and get into the engine and ruin it. and that goes for all fram products airfilters suck more than air!
just so you know K&N and moble 1 are the same filter. they are good filters. they are made by champion labs. I would not use AC delco or STP filters they are also made by champion labs by they use the new Ecore design wich is cheap shit worse than the fram filters.

Wix still makes good filters, and K&N is also made by champion labs however K&N is still using the older and better design. K&N and mobile 1 are also the same filter.
I don't get the gist of this video. Is it from a website with details? Because this tells me nothing. Also the filters are blown up in the opposite direction that they flow.
fleetgaurd not the best you have to look at flow rates also. the fleetgaurd filter media is so tightly packed together the flow rates cant be that good.
The pure one and bosche have a spring made of flat steel to hold the element against the baseplate. Those designs have been known to weaken and let the filter go into bypass. What test equipment do you have?
You can NOT tell by just looking at a filter. Fleetguard is NOT the best. Bosche? You need to go to the filter council website and learn. I have been to the baldwin and wix plant. Both are way better than the OE(just good enough) fleetguard.
I guess you cant tell an apple from an orange either until you bite into it. To me the tests we have conducted are as plain as night and day. Look at the filtration media, and how each is constructed to hold the filter media together.
If it's the best why is the media all torn?

You can NOT tell by just looking at a filter. Fleetguard is NOT the best. Bosche? You need to go to the filter council website and learn. I have been to the baldwin and wix plant. Both are way better than the OE(just good enough) fleetguard.

I guess you cant tell an apple from an orange either until you bite into it. To me the tests we have conducted are as plain as night and day. Look at the filtration media, and how each is constructed to hold the filter media together.

Sorry to say, with only my limited funds, and what we had laying around the shop, all filter variations from manufacturers could not be tested.
