3/4 of what you mentioned no one even knows of accept for Zeppelin/Vai. Coffee Shop? LMFAO
ERUPTION = 6 strings of bliss. I say again Billy even said it and I bet he'll kick your ass on a bass.
@punishr36 ok before i say what im about to say..let's lay down the obvious.BASS IS A BIGGER INSTRUMENT IN WIDTH,GIRTH, SUSTAIN,STRING, AND LENGTH.automaticly.its harder because the frets are bigger and also the strings are making you need to have more hand and finger strength to not get fret buzz..NOW.i would LOVE for you to even ATTEMPT Chromatic Fantasy..it can be played on a gutar...because its only one octave difference in instruments and it was composed by J.S. Bach..the classical genius
@newoaklandlocal Besides, your channel has no videos of you proving that bass is easy, by way of playing. No guitar vids either. As a matter of fact, I'd say you're full of B.S. I admit, I haven't uploaded any videos myself, but I have no camera to shoot them with. Once I get one, I will. I play bass, and used to play guitar. Bass (when played right) is harder to play, both physically, and musically. You have to have a really good ear to play with other people.
@SuperGeo1987 dude wtf are you talking about? idk when the last time i posted on this vid was and i play bass more than guitar..bass is definately fucking harder.i think you have confused.the thing that says @ means thats who they are talking to.the only reason people think bass is easier...is because nobody has the balls to disprove them...those that do..are never heard of and are still put down with retarded pathetic excuses.now.please go find who you actually meant to send that to.it wasnt me
@SuperGeo1987 You don't need to have a really good ear to make a simple bassline that sounds good with other people. I admit, if you're a really technical bassist it can be harder than guitar, but don't go saying "you have to have a really good ear to play with other people" because that's just a lie.
@Diffle No, you don't have to have a good ear to play eight notes along to the root chords. But to play something that goes really well with a song, and keeps the rythm and harmony together, then you do need to have a good ear. And being a "technical" player is just another word for being good. The longer you play, the better you should get. If you don't progress as a player then that's your problem.
@SuperGeo1987 Being technical is not the same as being good. You can be a fantastic guitar or bass player without being technical at all. Technicality refers to the complex patterns on the fretboard. But, I'm done arguing, at least we can agree that this is a good video.
@SuperGeo1987 Diffle must not have played with a band or group before. How can you not have a good ear and play music.. music is for the ears!!! People LISTEN to music. You have to listen attentively to everyone in the band to really be in tune with the music. You can feel it or read it on sheet music but you still have to listen.
@punishr36 and sense i have way more to say that i didnt include...ONE stop calling it a 6 string cuz i play a six string....a six string bass...you play a classical styled guitar.TWO....EVERYONE knows My Generation by The Who and its bass solo...n like i said...theres more...theres a list online of the 200 best..faggot..YYZ by Rush?..all those songs u said are fuckin easy..i play guitar too..and the only ones hard are Van Halen and Yngwie..way to be the definition of a sell out and a conformist
@punishr36 Actually that depends on the style, and what would be best suited for what. You see, Billy might kick his ass at rock, but what about progressive metal? Or funk and Motown? And bass is an instrument that is mysterious. People often hear it without realising that that's what they are hearing. It's a more powerful instrument than guitar, and requires more strength (Billy Sheehan says so) than guitar. Billy Sheehan also said that he prefers 4 strings, you misquoted (or lied).
@aigy85 As for Stu Hamm, the guy is a virtuoso hands down. I wonder how far Eddie Vanhalen/Steve Vai/Jimmy Page/Hendrix/Satriani/Tommy Emmanuel would have gone in the music industry playing bass, as far as to be recognized. Who was the bass player for Hendrix? I happen to know Micheal Anthony was for Vanhalen but thats it. I like Geddy Lee and Eduardo Sanchez bass playing personally,, nice and punchy!
@punishr36 Noel Redding was Hendrix's bass player, for the most part. Read the record sleeves, it says so on them. Back to my point. There is a huge margin of error on bass. If you play the wrong note, you don't just hear it, you feal it. And everyone in the band is thrown off by it. Poor bass playing can ruin a song/jam/live show. Good bass playing can really make it. Think of Jungle Boogie, by Kool and The Gang. That song is funky shit, and the bassline made it.
@SuperGeo1987 I totally agree. Great guitar players are a dime a dozen but it's really a challenge to find a really great bass player. I guess because most people assume it is just a rhythm instrument but it really is a lead/melody instrument. There's a reason Stu Hamm was Satriani's bass player for so long. He is truly the bass equivilant to Satriani.
@Xcorgi I forget what magazine it was in but when I was in my 20's in the 1990's I read an article about great bass players and Flea, Geddy Lee, and Les Claypool all said that Stu Hamm was the best bassist in the world.
why do people usually hate on him .. i have a joe satriani concert where he does a nasty solo to love thing i think and people start booing him .. he's one pretty damn good ..
Once you learn how, tapping on bass (four string anyway) isn't really all that hard. I view it as more crowd pleasing than anything. But, Stu can make some beautiful songs.

This is what happens when you've spent too much time practicing your bass alone at home instead of playing with a band.
In the 90's, a lot of bassists were hurting their fingers trying to play this and most of them were lost in a simple 12 bars blues (without even being aware of it !)
@Fjord76! This is what happens when you've spent too much time practicing your bass alone at home instead of playing with a band.

this is extremely impressive. i have never heard this guy before. phenominal. i wish i knew how he was doing this. i've been playing bass for a year and am getting better, but i think it's gonna be a few more years until this is a possibility...
@Pimetalz you know its true i mwan he was great at what he did , bu the holds no wieght compared to these guys you now it.. i hate wen pople big him up to be than what he realy is .. hes no that great
@METALLMAN1000 I know, I'm just saying you gotta show respect for what he did. I mean, you look at him at his young age and you can only wonder how far he could have evolved as a bass player. Yes, his bass lines aren't that special, but you have to agree that he was special in what he did. He was a big influence on me and countless others and it is sorta hurtful when you say "Cliff Burton sucks a 3 year old can do what he does" Thats just blatant disrespect.
i think if you want to tap on a bassor a guitar, you should just go play a keyboard, tahst my opinon, but dont get me wrong a tapping solo is great now and again, but only tapping is dumb
It just doesn't sound the same. Something about the harmonic qualities of a bass being tapped is much more fulfilling to hear than a piano being played. (to me at least). Steven Wilson could have played guitar on Insurgentes, but he chose to get a Koto player to record something instead and the results were outstanding.
you know why i think this guy is truly amazing becuase most bassists wen they solo they care more about the rythmic sie of bass(groove) i know thats really wats the bass for. but this guy does more melodic stuff like this piece its fantastic brilliant bassist
Having learned how to play this song I can tell you it's not quite as easy as it looks. During the first part there are only 2 chords, E minor and C major, But the way he plays the C chord CGDE all with his left hand is very challenging due to the reach, and I have a big hand. And the endurance needed to play the second part is formidable.
He doesn't play it perfectly here, but that's part of why I like it. He is an uber bassist but he's human also.
hmmm???? which C chord???? CEB? thats the first chord of the song,2nd is GBF#,then the next four notes are E,e,B,F#,and then you tap out some stuff in the second octave o.o
@pizzicato16 Ahh,i see what you're saying...however,that reach is juuuuust within my range(the held part with the left hand obviously)....the part i still haven't learned and am not able to play is at 2:31,as my left hand cant tap that fast/clean,and especially not in conjunction with my right hand that quickly haha
A:Song isnt that hard xD,the only part thats hard is the part where he does those hexalets(?Basically 2:30 xD),because its very hard to tap all of that out on two hands without messing up,let alone put in those extra notes.....
the songs very nice, kinda drifty,misty....but it shouldnt be 5 minutes long lol,i feel like he got a little...lazy? theres only 3 main parts to the song...and a couple variations...its not that crazy
ah dude its so good to hear that you can write a beautiful peace of music, and Fender made you a signature bass before anyone else, and you can play this better than he can.
I don't know man its just so weird how someone could even think that this isn't just completely mind blowing, and how this man isn't just absolutely amazing let alone calling him "shit". The first time I heard this it just changed the way I played for the rest of my life, all I use to do was thrash out like Steve Harris, Cliff, and Franky B.
But this guy totally changed my perspective as a musician, your just weird I guess haha
@DominoDylan yeah people don't understand what its like to pick up and tap, pop, salp, pluck a bass or a guitar...ive only been playing bass for two years, and tapping still looks like a long way to go.
yeah, I've been playing for about that long, I'm just starting to tap but its insane haha.
what gets me is how he can use one hand to hold a note with his index finger and slide with his middle finger, all on the right hand. I'm not even close to half his talent haha.
yeah I know, tapping like that has to be extremely talented. don't know why I never hear bassist like this alot..Like I said it would prob take me 10 years to get half as good as him on tapping...I would love to learn, but don't where to start
haha he have a perfect volume control on his fingers, one of the best bassist ever

Bach..the classical genius
newoaklandlocal 1 year ago
@newoaklandlocal You are correct! I agree 100%
punishr36 1 year ago
@newoaklandlocal Besides, your channel has no videos of you proving that bass is easy, by way of playing. No guitar vids either. As a matter of fact, I'd say you're full of B.S. I admit, I haven't uploaded any videos myself, but I have no camera to shoot them with. Once I get one, I will. I play bass, and used to play guitar. Bass (when played right) is harder to play, both physically, and musically. You have to have a really good ear to play with other people.
SuperGeo1987 1 year ago
@SuperGeo1987 dude wtf are you talking about? idk when the last time i posted on this vid was and i play bass more than guitar..bass is definately fucking harder.i think you have confused.the thing that says @ means thats who they are talking to.the only reason people think bass is easier...is because nobody has the balls to disprove them...those that do..are never heard of and are still put down with retarded pathetic excuses.now.please go find who you actually meant to send that to.it wasnt me
newoaklandlocal 1 year ago
@SuperGeo1987 You don't need to have a really good ear to make a simple bassline that sounds good with other people. I admit, if you're a really technical bassist it can be harder than guitar, but don't go saying "you have to have a really good ear to play with other people" because that's just a lie.
Diffle 1 year ago
@Diffle No, you don't have to have a good ear to play eight notes along to the root chords. But to play something that goes really well with a song, and keeps the rythm and harmony together, then you do need to have a good ear. And being a "technical" player is just another word for being good. The longer you play, the better you should get. If you don't progress as a player then that's your problem.
SuperGeo1987 1 year ago
@SuperGeo1987 Being technical is not the same as being good. You can be a fantastic guitar or bass player without being technical at all. Technicality refers to the complex patterns on the fretboard. But, I'm done arguing, at least we can agree that this is a good video.
Diffle 1 year ago
@SuperGeo1987 Diffle must not have played with a band or group before. How can you not have a good ear and play music.. music is for the ears!!! People LISTEN to music. You have to listen attentively to everyone in the band to really be in tune with the music. You can feel it or read it on sheet music but you still have to listen.
atl2maryland 9 months ago
@punishr36 and sense i have way more to say that i didnt include...ONE stop calling it a 6 string cuz i play a six string....a six string bass...you play a classical styled guitar.TWO....EVERYONE knows My Generation by The Who and its bass solo...n like i said...theres more...theres a list online of the 200 best..faggot..YYZ by Rush?..all those songs u said are fuckin easy..i play guitar too..and the only ones hard are Van Halen and Yngwie..way to be the definition of a sell out and a conformist
newoaklandlocal 1 year ago
@punishr36 Actually that depends on the style, and what would be best suited for what. You see, Billy might kick his ass at rock, but what about progressive metal? Or funk and Motown? And bass is an instrument that is mysterious. People often hear it without realising that that's what they are hearing. It's a more powerful instrument than guitar, and requires more strength (Billy Sheehan says so) than guitar. Billy Sheehan also said that he prefers 4 strings, you misquoted (or lied).
SuperGeo1987 1 year ago
@aigy85 As for Stu Hamm, the guy is a virtuoso hands down. I wonder how far Eddie Vanhalen/Steve Vai/Jimmy Page/Hendrix/Satriani/Tommy Emmanuel would have gone in the music industry playing bass, as far as to be recognized. Who was the bass player for Hendrix? I happen to know Micheal Anthony was for Vanhalen but thats it. I like Geddy Lee and Eduardo Sanchez bass playing personally,, nice and punchy!
Cheers!
punishr36 1 year ago
@punishr36 Noel Redding was Hendrix's bass player, for the most part. Read the record sleeves, it says so on them. Back to my point. There is a huge margin of error on bass. If you play the wrong note, you don't just hear it, you feal it. And everyone in the band is thrown off by it. Poor bass playing can ruin a song/jam/live show. Good bass playing can really make it. Think of Jungle Boogie, by Kool and The Gang. That song is funky shit, and the bassline made it.
SuperGeo1987 1 year ago
@SuperGeo1987 I totally agree. Great guitar players are a dime a dozen but it's really a challenge to find a really great bass player. I guess because most people assume it is just a rhythm instrument but it really is a lead/melody instrument. There's a reason Stu Hamm was Satriani's bass player for so long. He is truly the bass equivilant to Satriani.
Xcorgi 11 months ago 2
@Xcorgi I forget what magazine it was in but when I was in my 20's in the 1990's I read an article about great bass players and Flea, Geddy Lee, and Les Claypool all said that Stu Hamm was the best bassist in the world.

As they say, to each his own...

@METALLMAN1000 I know, I'm just saying you gotta show respect for what he did. I mean, you look at him at his young age and you can only wonder how far he could have evolved as a bass player. Yes, his bass lines aren't that special, but you have to agree that he was special in what he did. He was a big influence on me and countless others and it is sorta hurtful when you say "Cliff Burton sucks a 3 year old can do what he does" Thats just blatant disrespect.

i think if you want to tap on a bassor a guitar, you should just go play a keyboard, tahst my opinon, but dont get me wrong a tapping solo is great now and again, but only tapping is dumb
dilocaster23 1 year ago
It just doesn't sound the same. Something about the harmonic qualities of a bass being tapped is much more fulfilling to hear than a piano being played. (to me at least). Steven Wilson could have played guitar on Insurgentes, but he chose to get a Koto player to record something instead and the results were outstanding.

Just my $.02
pizzicato16 1 year ago 2
hmmm???? which C chord???? CEB? thats the first chord of the song,2nd is GBF#,then the next four notes are E,e,B,F#,and then you tap out some stuff in the second octave o.o
IAmTheWar 1 year ago
@IAmTheWar
After the intro, during the "verse" if you will. the first time The CGDE happens is at 1:13 then at 1:52
pizzicato16 1 year ago
@pizzicato16 Ahh,i see what you're saying...however,that reach is juuuuust within my range(the held part with the left hand obviously)....the part i still haven't learned and am not able to play is at 2:31,as my left hand cant tap that fast/clean,and especially not in conjunction with my right hand that quickly haha
IAmTheWar 1 year ago
sounds shittttttttt
mat1979chunk 1 year ago
If i may
A:Song isnt that hard xD,the only part thats hard is the part where he does those hexalets(?Basically 2:30 xD),because its very hard to tap all of that out on two hands without messing up,let alone put in those extra notes.....
the songs very nice, kinda drifty,misty....but it shouldnt be 5 minutes long lol,i feel like he got a little...lazy? theres only 3 main parts to the song...and a couple variations...its not that crazy

ah dude its so good to hear that you can write a beautiful peace of music, and Fender made you a signature bass before anyone else, and you can play this better than he can.

Do you play bass? Do you understand what skill this takes, the talent needed?
or are you just some jerkoff Metallica fanboy that has nothing better to do then make fun.
Please just pickup a bass and try this, and tell me even after month of playing you have a few bad days and make some mistakes.
DominoDylan 2 years ago
@DominoDylan
Yes I play bass. I never said this was easy, I said Stu Hamm is shit. I think this is shit, I didn't say it was easy shit, did I?
For someone as "great" as Stu Hamm, he should be able to play better than this, understand?
MetallicARbest1 2 years ago
I don't know man its just so weird how someone could even think that this isn't just completely mind blowing, and how this man isn't just absolutely amazing let alone calling him "shit". The first time I heard this it just changed the way I played for the rest of my life, all I use to do was thrash out like Steve Harris, Cliff, and Franky B.
But this guy totally changed my perspective as a musician, your just weird I guess haha
DominoDylan 2 years ago
your fucking retarded..if you think this is shit..then stop commenting here..go learn how to play bass dumbass
GiJoePSX 1 year ago
@DominoDylan yeah people don't understand what its like to pick up and tap, pop, salp, pluck a bass or a guitar...ive only been playing bass for two years, and tapping still looks like a long way to go.
GiJoePSX 1 year ago
yeah, I've been playing for about that long, I'm just starting to tap but its insane haha.
what gets me is how he can use one hand to hold a note with his index finger and slide with his middle finger, all on the right hand. I'm not even close to half his talent haha.
Just gotta keep tryin.
DominoDylan 1 year ago
yeah I know, tapping like that has to be extremely talented. don't know why I never hear bassist like this alot..Like I said it would prob take me 10 years to get half as good as him on tapping...I would love to learn, but don't where to start
