@RainbowNarcissist sorry it took so long to respond. i use all sorts of paints. in this video i used some student grade oil paints from dick blick. they have really good prices. if im doing photorealism, or contracted work i'll use better quality oil paints. rembrant isnt too shabby. the best paints are usually only expensive if you buy a thousand different colors. all you need are the primary blues, reds, yellows, white, & black.
I think I watched this video 10 times or more. I have sketched the same face on a empty canvas and now I'm planning the wet part. I'm scared of messing up. LOL. This picture has such a power to it!. You inspired me. Good job!
@mark44 the shading is everywhere that light would be blocked. so you think of the face and how it is shaped (kind of 3D) in your head and shade in those areas if you dont have reference to look at. if you draw enough faces it becomes second nature. the blending gets done with a soft brush and a gentle touch. i use a flat watercolor brush to do alot of my smoothing.
@RAVENEDD the white oxidizes and becomes more suttle with age. it seems like that a lot on fresh wet oil paints. many of the faces i do look sweaty and have oily skin until it dries. also, these look so much different in life than on camera. the camera really does an number with the color.
Cool native painting.
