I tried this a few weeks ago in the woods....a bit awkward at first and you really feel the blast on your thighs.......but two things;

1.Very accurate shooting! Your thighs stabilize your arms better than standing......I shot a 3 inch pattern with my glock 40 cal at 100 ft.

2. I would think it would be hard for the enemy to hit you laying low like this.....stay low....stay alive!

in a home invasion scenario, i personally would rather not have earplugs, because if im coming downstairs where this invader is lurking around, i want to be able to have my hearing to be better able to locate him before engaging, considering most break-ins like that are going to be at night, and your eyes will be of less use.

Thanks; but I meant that in a self-defense situation where a bad guy is in the house it wouldn't be likely that one could put ear plugs in and then shoot. So the only option would be to shoot with no protection and hope that the .45 ACP doesn't wipe out the ear drums.

unless your walls weren't metal and the sound just bounces everywhere you would be fine. I'm guessing you've never been hunting before. when your adrenaline is high and you shoot a weapon without earplugs (which is what happens in hunting)... the noise barely affects you and it doesn't hurt your ears.

I once shot my .45 outside (of course) without ear plugs just to see how loud it was. Big mistake. I can only imagine how much hearing damage would occur firing it inside without protection. But like you said, when one is in a situation the adrenalin flows and time would go into slow-mo and the MASSIVE BANG wouldn't be quiet so bad
