I want to watch this movie now. It looks like comedy gold! FYI: Pop-ups can easily turn into a 398 monitor-a-day addiction if you smash the monitor every time one pops up... or you could just, you know, install a pop-up blocker.
He smashed his monitor to get rid of a popup? What a moron, clearly too stupid to figure out that installing a pop-up blocker script in his browser is cheaper and simpler than breaking equipment. 2nd, he only destroyed his monitor--the computer is the CPU, not the screen.
i ain't gon lie though some times i do feel like throwing away the computer but then i just think of disconnecting the internet that would be a lot better
Rather than become a stronger person who can handle life, you just hide from or destroy anything you might get addicted to? Because when you get and then get over an addiction to something that isn't addictive (like porn) you are still at risk of replacing it with something else. Something like chocolate, or sex, or making terrible christian movies.
This kind of reminds me of a super serious version of that scene in 'Office Space' where all the guys smash the printer. If the director of 'Fireproof' had directed 'Office Space' I suspect the entire movie would have just been a tension filled lead up to the printer smashing with lots of *tinkly-tinkly* piano music guiding us there.
Religion is the worst parasite of all, ruining rational thought and upholding ignorance instead of education. This video is hilarious, however. You can always count on Christians to provide melodrama as propaganda.
Why is everyone hating on this scene? It is by far my favorite scene in a movie. He's addicted to porn, therefore if he just cimply closes it, it will come back. God wants us to let go of all of our sin and addiction. He WANTS us to make sacrifices! He made SUCH a brave one in this scene. Say your addicted to smoking. Do you jsut close the pack and say no? Or do you throw them out. It's not about self control, it's about sacrifice. God wants the best for us!
@AtlanticBlue213 Obviously the scene is not about self control, because self control wouldn't have taken to destroying things because of personal inadequacies.
With a computer, you can look up information for schoolwork and projects for work and use the computer tools (Word, Photoshop, Excel, etc.) to present your research in a professional manner. You can look up TV programs you may have missed. You can look up the daily news to see what's happening in the world at a time when it is convenient for you. You can email or chat to friends on Skype or Oovoo for a cheaper price than doing it by phone
@AtlanticBlue213 A computer isn't just used for porn. I'm assuming you're on one right now. God obviously wanted you to sacrifice your intelligence somewhere along the line.
@AtlanticBlue213 - I can buy the smashing of the outdated monitor as a symbolic act, something to bring some closure and catharsis to the situation. But it's beyond naivete to think that merely smashing a monitor is going to cure his addiction. If he's truly addicted, he'll find ways to get porn without the internet. Magazines, books, whatever. Sure, he'll hate himself all over again, and throw them out, but that still won't cure the addiction.
@schwoogie78 men has different reactions to porn, for some its just a distraction, for others is the destruction, I got to conffess that I've experimented the big pull it can be, out of your (self) control, i have never had problems with drugs, but I felt what a drug addict fees regarding porn - the scene in this movie is symbolic, (without need to show nudity) maybe its and exageration crush your PC since it wont destroy pornography, but for the one who is captive this is an act of liberation!
This is hilarious! Religion is one of the most unhealthy addictions I can imagine. It promotes intolerance, hate and violence. It is a mechanism of societal management that is a natural tendency, sociologically speaking. There are people who need to control others, and religion gives them a way to do that -- by spreading fear and ignorance. Pornography can be used in a healthy way -- it's as old as cave paintings and part of the human sexual experience. Learn or wither in ignorance!
@TheJannabelle trying to find some reason on your comment, whats your criteria? - the ambition to control others trascends religion, economy, culture, media, and... etc - everything got to have a balance!
pornography could be used... may be if a sexual therapist says it, but for most of cases it only will degrade you and your relationship, old as evil does not imply got to be accepted, you can learn how to rape a woman, but not how to love a woman, do not forget that we are spiritual beings too
"Do not deprive each other of sexual relations, unless you both agree to refrain from sexual intimacy for a limited time so you can give yourselves more completely to prayer. Afterward, you should come together again so that Satan won't be able to tempt you because of your lack of self-control." 1 Corinthians 7:5
Has anyone considered not depriving their spouse of sexual pleasure in order to keep them from seeking it elsewhere?
It's just a tad ironic that pornography is a thriving industry because of repression. The fact that normal sexual desire is considered a "sin" is what leads people to a secretive and soul destroying fantasy-based addictions like this in the first place.
I mean that in all sincerity and am willing to debate politely 'bout it.
I totally get this clip. I too had the temptation to get tons of viruses on my computer. I saved them the extra trouble and went at my monitor with a baseball bat.
This is so stupid. Let's see, click the little red X and show the strength of your willpower against temptation or break the computer and hide from temptation. It's like being a recovering alcoholic working as a cashier at a grocery store and occasionally someone comes up with beer they don't have enough money for, do you fight the temptation to buy it yourself and go put it back on the shelf or quit your job to avoid the temptation altogether?
@rachelhiei lol the RED X hmm lets think, a person can acess porn any time..wth would a red x do? Umm you still got the search bar...and yes if a cashier had a problem with alchol the best thing to do is quit. let material rule over you or rule over material? He did break his computer right, thats more stronger will power than most because people are to concerned with material. whats funny is everyone has an addiction to somthing thats wrong or els the world wouldnt be like this..no room to talk
I have to say though, that must be just about the least suggestive porn pop-up I have ever seen. I don't I'd have noticed it at all if I were in Caleb's shoes.
@Renegade0413 Because he was addicted to the porn on the computer. He did something that took a lot of strength. This is a very wonderful movie actually
I took a dramatic step like this too. I took the internet out of my house. I use the computer at a library if I need to. You can't play around with this. Get rid of it.
And if your hand--even your stronger hand--causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. Matthew 5:30
stupidly difficult choice when you're into stuff...
It's pretty telling that he is so weak willed that he feels the need to DESTROY the monitor rather than, you know, not clicking on porno popup ads or not surfing on over to smut sites.
@Swordsman52 Have you ever had an addiction. That is courage to get rid of something that you love that is leading you into sin and death. I think it takes someone who really knows what matters to USE material things rather than be mastered by them.
Poor Kirk Cameron. He doesn't realize that the evil internet lives in the hard drive, not the monitor. He could save a lot of trouble by just severing his wi-fi.
i loved the movie fireproof but he didn't have to destroy his computer. He just had to close that window. what if his wife needed the computer? i love the fact that he managed to overcome his addiction (and in fact, i wish more men stopped looking at porn) but destroying the computer is too extreme..
I see what you're saying. The computer was only used as a parasite in the movie, though, and had no positive purpose. It was meant for him lusting for other women and coveting a boat for himself. She never showed interest in the computer and besides...it looked like a garage sale model...who uses a CRT monitor? lol
If you watch the movie you will know Caleb(Kirk Cameron) is NOT gay. He is married and struggling with porn and anger issues. He chooses to give that up once he starts realizing whats hurting his wife, and surrenders himself to God and starts to reliaze what the true meaning of Love really is. Sure he could have clicked on the red "x" but I think he became stronger in knowing he needed to destory what was really destroying his marriage. Sadly enough porn is the #1 cause of divorces.
To click the 'X' is temporary. He was putting a brick wall in front of temptation. He was obviously addicted and frustrated with it for attracting him so much. He wasn't going to give it a second chance to tempt him. That would be trying to quit drinking alcohol, a bottle showing up on the counter...then you moving it to another counter and walking away...it's just gonna show up again....break that sucker!
You REALLY don't get it, obviously. However, God can change that for you. Most people are offended and hate the cross before they come to it and realize it's all about God's love.
My video response is about this struggle. I'm a woman, and i don't personally struggle with pornography, but i have many close brothers in Christ that this effects and breaks. And because of that, it breaks my heart.
So i made a video, it's under the response. If your struggling or know someone that does, please watch it. Thank you and God bless! Fight the good fight!
Amazing scene!! This is a great example of what Romans 8:13 calls "putting to death the deeds of the body". Christians, we need to MAKE WAR on all of our fleshly addicitions, not play around with it or try to "manage" or "control" them! I suggest that everyone listen to Pastor John Piper's series on "How To Kill Sin". You can't play around with your flesh and expect to be victorious. Like the great Puritan John Owen said "Be killing sin, or sin will be killing you."
No matter what you do, the addiction is still there. There will be triggers all around you. If you can't learn to manage and control your addiction, you will eventually fall again. You must learn to control your addiction and strengthen your brain. Pornography addiction has the exact same affects on the brain, as does, drugs, etc.
If you Learn how to manage the triggers, you can live in society without giving up some of the greatest blessings of technology.
wait couldn't he have just took a picture of the computer and sold it on ebay. That would have made more sense. Think of all the bibles he could have bought or how much he could have gave to his church. God needed to instill wisdom in this guys heart and his brain.
you know... that's a good point... but you gotta admit. It must have been so satisfying to completely bash that computer to bits... I've always wanted to do that :D
This is funny as hell...first we have the "ZOMG PORN IS EVAL!" angle, which is always good for a laugh - just like masturbation (regardless of gender) and sex w/o marriage are "horrid sins"
Then we have you whackjob repressed Christians praising this awful acting and closed-minded approach to life.
I'm not sure what made me laugh harder: the clip, or the people praising it.
But he could have sold the computer on ebay. He didn't have to destroy it. Computers cost money. That's as annoying as that lady in that chick movie who burned that perfectly good car.
I would love to take our computer out back and take a good whack at it with a baseball bat...but I think my wife would have a problem with that! We saw this movie just a few weeks ago and it is quite moving...
Great clip. I struggle with pornography / women being a 21 yr old newly reformed Christian so this clip really hit me hard. I kept falling for the deception over and over and over battling with the scars associated with it. I've recently decided to confess my sin to a friend, keep a daily log to keep my mind straight whenever I'm alone and have the temptation in front of me, and most importantly have God on my side and pray hard about it. Alone I'm weak... but with God who can stop me.
Protip: Data is stored on the computer TOWER, not the monitor.
Also, this is a terrible way to deal with problems. Destroying things instead of trying to find a rational, CONstructive solution (ie adblock/netnannay etc)? What a horrible worldview.
The data IS stored on the computer, but it can't be viewed without a monitor. Destroying the monitor means the computer is pretty much useless until he KNOWS he's ready to buy a new monitor. The idea is to show and prove to yourself before God (and Mr. Rudolph) that you won't surrender to the temptation. FLEE FORNICATION!
he destroyed the tower as well, it didn't dhow in the clip above. I think the whole destroying thing was for a dramatic effect for the audience, if he just said ok I'm gonna quit now you wouldn't quite beleive it.
Hey Slim. Watch the Movie.Tee TOWER, as you say, was next. Know your facts. PERFECT worldview. When something is destroying your life DESTROY IT!! Look inside yourself, we ALL have parasites, so laugh and call me names. One day, you will stand before the Father, I Pray he does not say. "depart fromme.. for I never knew you".
i had to destroy all my razors when i was recovering from my self harm addiction. every single one i had hidden away and/or that was anywhere in the house, got locked away or counted so none would come up missing. God delivers us from temptation!
I love this movie!!! Next line: *He gets the computer thingy and gets ready to hit, but then he sees his neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph* Mr. Rudolph? he askes, then MR. Ruldolph answers Caleb. Then MR. Rudolph turns to his wife. "Stay away form that guy, he's weird." LOL!!!!!
To many Men of God struggle with this addiction (lets call it what it is SIN) We need to take action pray, seek the guidance of the Lord and put to use the teachings of the scripture.
In the book, it was a bit disappointing because Catherine, after seeing the damaged computer in the garbage can, wasn't impressed. She thought it was a juvenile guy-like response to their argument about the computer. If you liked the movie, you should get the book because there are a lot of things added that aren't in the movie. Awesome movie and book!!
nothing is censored because nothing is shown this was not the point at all it was to show the fact he was resisting the temptation and got rid of his addiction for good by destroying his computer
I commend Caleb for his decision on how he handled the temptation of pornography. Jesus said if your left eye is causing you to sin its best to pluck it out than go to hell with 2 eyes. Sometimes its the best answer to breaking free from strong addictions.
True, even if one clicks out of it, the computer is still there and he can still go back to it. It is all temptation. Like they say, run from lust because if you try to battle it, you'll lose. Destroying the computer is kind of like running away from it. Clicking out is resisting. Not so easy to do.
Well it's just the same like what Joseph had to go through with Potipher's wife. He couldn't just say "No" because she was still after him to sleep with her. He had to literally run away from her!
Ahhh, I see. comments must be approved. That is why it seems, judging from the comments on this video, this is the perfect movie that is incapable of fault. Ignorance is bliss indeed.
wow. I have never seen anything taken so literally in all of my life. That was... wow. I was nearly crying when he actually destroyed his MONITOR. Not the computer, mind you, but that 20 dollar monitor. With a bat. LMAO.
And when he started SAYING what he should be demonstrating in his actions. "I can't do it." and "why is this so hard?" Hahahaha.
First off, he doesn't say "I can't do it", he says "Caleb, what are you doing?" Caleb is his name in the movie. If you're going to be disrespectful and rude, make sure you know what you're talking about first.
I think it's more like...if you can't avoid your addiction...no matter what it is...you just gotta get it out of the way. he knew he wasn't strong enough to just click and if he didn't act the temptation would just keep coming back. It's like junk food when you are on a diet, I suppose. keep the Snickers out of your house if you can't keep 'em outta your mouth. haha. *sigh* That's what I forced myself to do! but it was worth it!
They just sold that bat (signed) on eBay as part of a fundraiser for Sherwood Christian Academy. It went for almost $600! I'm slightly envious. ;)
cgi[dot]ebay[dot]c o m/Autographed-Sherwood-Slugger-bat-used-in-Fireproof_W0QQitemZ320322074462QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item320322074462&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318
Did anyone else notice that he was not breaking free of his lust sin, but also the money he was holding onto for his boat (what he was looking at originally on the computer before the pop up). That is how I knew he was the one that used his money for his mother-in-law, and not doctor keller, before Catherine found out.
Unfortunately I have yet to see the movie because it wasn't in a theater near me but this scene just speaks of how great it is! God has used this movie and will continue to use it in amazing ways!! I can't wait to buy it!
Best. Movie. Ever. More crying in the theater than at the Passion of the Christ, although you could see how uncomfortable the men were during this scene, lol.
So true. I have given my life to JESUS but in the past, I have actually purchased some downloadable videos of women wrestling obscenely. I ended up deleting them permanently but I gave away almost $50.00. Talk about a waste of GOD-given finances for temporary excitement.
He took a drastic measure - sometimes that's needed - but I like to paraphrase Jesus: "It is better for you to smash your computer to bits (and make your neighbors think you're a loon) than to be thrown into Hell."
Like Caleb, I too was addicted to pornography and with God's help, I overcame that parasite! This is one the best scenes showing men how to break free of those parasites!
Hahahaha! This is silliness.

I suggest that everyone listen to Pastor John Piper's series on "How To Kill Sin". You can't play around with your flesh and expect to be victorious. Like the great Puritan John Owen said "Be killing sin, or sin will be killing you."
Salamanderman117 2 years ago
No matter what you do, the addiction is still there. There will be triggers all around you. If you can't learn to manage and control your addiction, you will eventually fall again. You must learn to control your addiction and strengthen your brain. Pornography addiction has the exact same affects on the brain, as does, drugs, etc.
If you Learn how to manage the triggers, you can live in society without giving up some of the greatest blessings of technology.

he bashes the whole computer too......you might want to actually watch the movie..
Salamanderman117 2 years ago
wait couldn't he have just took a picture of the computer and sold it on ebay. That would have made more sense. Think of all the bibles he could have bought or how much he could have gave to his church. God needed to instill wisdom in this guys heart and his brain.
Frater8 2 years ago
you know... that's a good point... but you gotta admit. It must have been so satisfying to completely bash that computer to bits... I've always wanted to do that :D

Oh, holy freaking crap WOW.

I would not click on that link anyway.
It probably is full of spyware.

This had to be my fav. scene in the movie. It just shows that he really and truly wants to try to save his marriage.

What a horrible worldview.
unquenchablefire 3 years ago
The data IS stored on the computer, but it can't be viewed without a monitor. Destroying the monitor means the computer is pretty much useless until he KNOWS he's ready to buy a new monitor. The idea is to show and prove to yourself before God (and Mr. Rudolph) that you won't surrender to the temptation. FLEE FORNICATION!
caroleabumoussa 3 years ago
he destroyed the tower as well, it didn't dhow in the clip above. I think the whole destroying thing was for a dramatic effect for the audience, if he just said ok I'm gonna quit now you wouldn't quite beleive it.
gparies 3 years ago

Most men can relate to this scene. Parasites (temptations) are usually disguised... like a wolf in sheeps clothing.

@gpadepedro I think you made a great point. The question is how can one overcome his battle?

If you saw Fireproof, you might enjoy watching the short video spoof. Its on my page. Totally different story line, but has some familiar moments.

And then Mrs. Rudolph says, "Takes one to know one." XD

This has to be one of my favorite scenes. I love this movie so much.
CMarie2009 3 years ago 3
Wow. All he had to do was click out of it...
Emrald87 3 years ago 3
well, it is not as easy as that.....trust me...
12342321 3 years ago
True, even if one clicks out of it, the computer is still there and he can still go back to it. It is all temptation. Like they say, run from lust because if you try to battle it, you'll lose. Destroying the computer is kind of like running away from it. Clicking out is resisting. Not so easy to do.
Lukeiru 3 years ago
Well it's just the same like what Joseph had to go through with Potipher's wife. He couldn't just say "No" because she was still after him to sleep with her. He had to literally run away from her!

That is a fantastic analogy. :)

what the heck are you talking about that was so not the point of this movie or scene
winner24211 3 years ago 2
This is a joke, right?
BrentonSteinhilber 3 years ago
First off, he doesn't say "I can't do it", he says "Caleb, what are you doing?" Caleb is his name in the movie. If you're going to be disrespectful and rude, make sure you know what you're talking about first.
tsprice42206 3 years ago
I think it's more like...if you can't avoid your addiction...no matter what it is...you just gotta get it out of the way. he knew he wasn't strong enough to just click and if he didn't act the temptation would just keep coming back. It's like junk food when you are on a diet, I suppose. keep the Snickers out of your house if you can't keep 'em outta your mouth. haha. *sigh* That's what I forced myself to do! but it was worth it!
DakidImetnhighschool 3 years ago
They just sold that bat (signed) on eBay as part of a fundraiser for Sherwood Christian Academy. It went for almost $600! I'm slightly envious. ;)

Did anyone else notice that he was not breaking free of his lust sin, but also the money he was holding onto for his boat (what he was looking at originally on the computer before the pop up). That is how I knew he was the one that used his money for his mother-in-law, and not doctor keller, before Catherine found out.

Best. Movie. Ever. More crying in the theater than at the Passion of the Christ, although you could see how uncomfortable the men were during this scene, lol.

Incidentally, he should've had a pop-up blocker on that computer. ;) Of course, having been there, I know that wouldn't have solved the problem.
JMcH 3 years ago 2
So true. I have given my life to JESUS but in the past, I have actually purchased some downloadable videos of women wrestling obscenely. I ended up deleting them permanently but I gave away almost $50.00. Talk about a waste of GOD-given finances for temporary excitement.
ExcursionGuy84 3 years ago 2
He took a drastic measure - sometimes that's needed - but I like to paraphrase Jesus: "It is better for you to smash your computer to bits (and make your neighbors think you're a loon) than to be thrown into Hell."
JMcH 3 years ago 3
Actually one of piece of scripture we studied with this clip was Matthew 5:27-30. The clip & the comment are a great modernization of that.
