This recipe is complete crap. Thanks for helping ruin my rice. I'm an accomplished home cook and was just looking for a decent way of cooking brown basmati and followed the recipe to the letter. 15 minutes simmering was nowhere near enough, the recipe uses way too much water given the soaking time. Cooked it for another 20 and the rice was still slimy, yet edible.
@bettsca Hi there, this is how we cook brown rice, and actually its exactly how the directions on the packaging describes! Is it possible that you added way to much water to the rice?Or allowed it to soak for far to long? The initial soaking of the rice, then you must drain the excess water to get rid of some of the starch, then add the water amount as demonstrated.Sorry that your rice didn't come out the way you hoped, but others have used this exact recipe and it has worked for them.
@HowToExpo I know I probably sounded pretty harsh in the original review, but I followed the recipe to the letter and was really annoyed at the results. The directions, as presented, are not difficult. 15 minutes of simmering just wasn't enough, even with the pre-soak. Most brown rice recipes have a 40 minute simmering time or 25 or 30 if there was a soak. Anywho, I've moved on! Thanks.
@Peeenos Awwww, the little troll came out to protect his mommy! How cute. I bet she gave you a big hug after you managed to type this out on your own!
What's the garnish on top of the rice at the end of the video? It's nice! We eat California Organic Basmati Brown Rice all of the time, which we get in abundance from the local Farmers Market. Thanks for the video!
I'm sorry for my ignorance but what is "Basmati" I'm diabetic and I love mexican rice but i can't eat it is why I'm looking for brown rice recipes thank you or somebody help me
@gmagugo1 Basmati is often known as 'The King'of rice'. It comes mainly from the Punjab and there are both brown and white basmati rice and both are available in organic. You should check out the Glycemic Index but I believe it is valued at 'medium'.
@Rydahshit Hi there, thanks for your comment. It seems to be a lot, but its just prepping it, the actual cooking time is 15 minutes. You can prepare the rest of your meal meanwhile. To get it perfect this is the method. Hope you try it. - Vera
@treetopteresa Hi there, yes, I have never tried the rice steamer actually. But I am tempted to getting one. Its easy for sure. Your not lazy, your a smart cook! :) Vera
It's not working for me either. It's on the 3rd 15 min. simmer. Smells good but it's soup. Hope the next 15 mins. does the job.

lol Vera,to show you how lazy I am I use a rice steamer to make my brown rice. I dont worry about if the temp is correct; just set the timer.
