Fresh was very charismatic and being he was so young, Corky couldn't believe that Fresh was setting them up.

There are two reasons why Fresh set Jake up.

1. Fresh is trying to play Corky and Esteban against each other. It's safer for Fresh that they have less soldiers.

2. Earlier in the movie, Jake shoots 2 kids over a basketball game... revenge. It's sweet.
