Nice Video. I have photos of 3 of the 4 S-61's of HMCG services. All of them when they came to plymouth airport, my local airport. To drop off their Casualties. Registrations G-BPWB, G-BDIJ and G-BDOC i also have a A-W 139 G-CGWB
in the uk hm coastguard helicopters have nothing to do with the RN those they do use RN helicopters some time however the crews of the helicopters are trained to v hard standard (theres even some argument aboput weather they are the best in the world) also these helis do no no drugs are weapons raid they are solely for the use of search and rescue my bet wold be that it was asked to take part in a live raining excerise
why did they come? did you carry drug or weapons?!?! :D :D
Last summer I were in Mediterranean sea with my 19 metres yacht and I also recieved a visit from a helo of the Police...they stay behind us flying over our head and after 5 minutes they left our boat.
Happy New Year... Well, the British Coast Guard and SAR-service are "real chaps", and terribly poilite, to say the least. They did ask, if it was OK for them to use our aft deck for practice...
That is a S-61N MkII. It has been in the hanger at my local airport (Plymouth) under going maintenance. Me and my fellow enthusiasts were informed by maintenance crew exactly what model it was. At the moment Coast Guard helicopter S-61 G-BDOC is now undergoing maintenance
G-BDOC is the former Shetland SAR helicopter 'oscar charlie'. there are actually 2 s-61 's in shetland, oscar charlie and lima charlie and they had a lot of respect from us locals.
actually its the sikorsky s- 92. this is from sikorskys website.... 'Four dedicated SAR S-92 helicopters are going into operation in Scotland in July 2007 to serve the United Kingdom Maritime Coastguard Agency' although thetwo helicopters are similar.
Yes they have 4 new Sikorsky S92's in Scotland but the helicopters that will be replacing the one in the video are actually Augusta Westland AW139's. 2 to be based at Lee-on-Solent and one at Portland i think.
Why did this happen? Seems a frivolous use of taxpayer money!

Of course, we said YES!
