Sure my running shoes can do this - these /are/ my running shoes. Got them sometime last year, and haven't looked back.
I do find if I run for long they get sweat in them and then I start slipping around in them - is that a common problem, and should that problem go away if I start wearing sweatbands on my ankles?
I just read Born to run and you are my favourit character, I always like barerunning - or running on thin shoe sole, but about vibram five I have never heard as today... I looked how much they cost and I was very disappointed, becouse 100$ it´s too much for me... maybe once I will find compromise between quality and cost. Martin
@kate424 my friend dont use a partner website that sells them cheeper.. the chances is its not a partner website....u should be checking vibramfivefingers
i want to buy a pair for running and im looking at the sprints but i dont know because around where i live theres alot of garvel and stuff and im afraid itll feel like i always have rocks in my shoes. also theres alot of broken glass too. people put here are terriable about that. but will they get cut open easily??
@billabongxx9 I don't think they will Vibram souls are very tough and very light... Any respectable Army boot will have a vibram sould and mine lasted the tough conditions and loads we carried in Iraq. After a straight year of use there was little to no wear on them.
It makes no sense to do balance sports in typical high-heeled running shoes...totally disconnecting you from the incredible proprioceptive feedback your feet offer when closest to bare (or better, bare).
are you serious? I practice parkour, there are hundreds upon hundreds of videos showing (even teenagers) balancing on all sorts of things MUCH better than you did, in trainers.. your closed mindedness astonishes me.
@tentonbrick not closed minded at all. I just don't see how you do yourself any good in balance sports by adding trainers to the picture. They are less optimal then a barefoot for balance. I mean, imagine gymnasts on a balance beam wearing trainers...absurd, no?
Of course young folks can do it. It is just not optimal. I would imagine that the best traceurs are not wearing big padded, high-heel trainers. Some of the best I have seen train barefoot.
@barefootted I totally agree, but on a more important note, most americans have been wearing padded shoes all their lives, and need to work their way a little at a time to being more and more minimalistic....until they go all the way
@chiefshakenbake I just stopped wearing regular shoes cold turkey after I got my second pair of vibrams (killed the first pair with a dryer unfortunately), I still feel the pain of a days worth of movement after coming home from work. it doesn't bother me because I know that in the end I'll be better for it.
@tentonbrick i practice parkour too, and while i agree and acknowledge that there are many traceurs who balance with trainers, i believe that it is way easier to balance barefoot or in VFFs. In fact, many members of the group I belong to (Sacpk and SFPK, an APK affiliate) train and run barefoot. I have balanced on rails and other stuff in trainers, VFFs and barefoot, and it is much easier to be able to grip the rail with your toes and to mold a bare sole over a rail, rather than stiff rubber.
@tentonbrick your body didnt develop flippers for running jumping playing swinging swimming and walking... if it did you wouldnt walk with an arch in you foot or have a ball for ballance. eh you might have a tail tho?. your toes and arch and heal are supposed to work together to perform a motion which provides positve feedback to strengthen your body. why do you have toes. sorry they are not a genetic left over. from apes or a mismatch from god . they are there for a reason. not to be inshoes

C'mon ted... what happened to the raramuri way? Where's your huaraches? Man, i hate to say this but the influence and benefits you got from the raramuris now you're using to advertise a product for profit. Shame, shame.
@xrebelkittenx hate to say, but that is a lame argument. I have been running barefoot for years before I met the Raramuri and wearing FiveFingers.
Come on down off your high horse please. No need to be judgmental, especially if you've got the facts wrong. A big thank you would be more appropriate in my opinion, but I could be biased. :-)
No, my neutral running shoes cannot do that! Excellent point. Although, can your "shoes" not absorb the accidental impact of a rock to a toe on a 6 minute/mile downhill?
Run in pool shoes. Decent protection, cost about $4.00 a pair at Wal-Mart but only in the summer. Probably buy them online though. I'll never run in $80.00 running shoes again.
Are these shoes really as good as their adds and the articles in the papers says? At the moment im using high cusion running shoes but it feels like something is off, and i really really want to believe in thiese shoes!
Yeah, Ive looked for them this past week, but theyre pretty rare here in Sweden, and the stores that are located around my part of the country doesnt have KSO or my shoe size... I got 45-47's, which is considered quite big and they rarely have those sizes.
Shit. Have to order em. + the fuckers cost around 145 $ >:(
@Degenskonto they are worth every credit.. my friend... your knees and feet will thank you. it will be the last pair of shoes you will ever own. just cuz they are so wonderful. infact if you bought a good pair you probably would not wear anything else
@Zipo214 Yeah in the end I bought a pair last year. They really are awesome, they really are everything they say they are. But since the climate here doesnt approve of my using the shoes everyday I cant... :(
@Degenskonto you should really look into a neoprene pair if it is too cold. or a kangaroo leather pair.. they also have "performance" toe socks that you can wear with them
@Degenskonto Psh! I work in a -20 degree freezer! Don't tell me Vibrams can't handle any climate! You're just too use to getting patted on the back to withstand the slap in the face it gives you. Just suck it up and go for it. And if it's too hot, well guess what, it gets about 100 degree where I live in the summer, And I get to walk on pavement plenty, not to mention my socks for them are black as well as the shoes are... you just need to suck it up and whine less.
@Degenskonto I'm sorry, but people have lived for ages not having shoes. My grandparents only had one pair and that was for church, and I'm quite sure they both have both of their feet. Yeah, there is a difference between a freezer and outside weather... the freezer maintains a steady low temperature keeping the concrete floor under it extremely cold and without the days heat as well as having two huge ass fans which create a nice breeze... sorry your argument is mute, just suck it up..
@burninmunkeys Yeah okay. Ill just keep trecking around with barefeet in snow. Its probably awesome to get frostbite. People (where I live) have had shoes for ages. Your (non existant) argument fails. Try walking around in snow, its not very pleasant.
@Degenskonto Yes, I bet EVERYONE had shoes during the winter back in the 1800's.... And sorry, your lifetime is not on par with the term "ages". No one said walking around in the cold is pleasant, I said it's withstand-able and you're just being a pussy. Damn, who knew the age where people get shit just handed to them makes spoiled little bitches out of most along with taking away the common sense they might have had. Don't bother replying, you might break a nail, or hurt your ass sitting down.
@burninmunkeys Seriously, how stupid can you be? Cold weather IS DANGEROUS, even for your damn feet! Why do you think people put clothes on when they are cold? Seriously. I bet you've never even seen snow or know anything about the people who actually had to live with it. There are people that run around in the snow barefoot, but they are rare. Normal people (like me) do not want to jeopardize my feet. And yes, we've been using shoes for a few 1000 years....
@Degenskonto I can be very stupid. Of course it's dangerous, to a degree (pun). Especially for your extremities. They put clothes on to stay at a comfortable temperature because shivering to warm up isn't exactly fun. No I don't see snow in Tennessee for about 3 months out of the year every year... Using shoes and people being able to easily afford them are different. Not everyone grew up rich or with ample money to spend on shoes. Sorry that you're so special.
@burninmunkeys Not so much buying, but making. Either clogs or shoes made out of leather and fur. Where I live most people were farmers, so hides and wood were plentyful. Ive seen clogs from the 1500th century with leather around it to make them watertight. They used them as wellingtons.
@Degenskonto Yes, and my grandmother's family was a farming family too. They had just enough for a nickel pepsi occasionally and sometimes a quarter for a huge bag of candy, along with one pair of shoes that they only wore to church because that was the only pair they owned. Not everyone has always been able to have shoes... sorry, your argument is still mute.
@Degenskonto I agree that it can work that way, and I agree that my grandparents don't have high school diplomas even, but that is completely away from our original point.
By allowing you foot to actually do what its made to do. Your foot will rap around the pole. Go find a rail like this one and take your shoes off and jump on.
