I'm embarassed for this bunch of clueless hippies. How sad that they come and judge the oilsands without any knowledge of the process.
They've seen too many useless youtube videos bashing the oilsands and wanted to be enviro-heroes without knowing the slightest thing about the industry.
the large structures are cokers, where the oil is injected onto a hot bed of carbon called coke from rings and flashed off into the fractionator to be distiled or seperated
Without mega projects like the oil sands, you would be either...
A: taking the foot mobile
B: using a car that runs on fusion
Unless you can make plan "B" work, we must continue to live with places like Fort Mac. Without oil, you would not have a wardrobe, leather products, synthetics ect...
It is so established in our society we have no other choice. I say embrace it while its here.
I live right there at Syncrude's Mildred Lake Camp, right beneath that big friggin' smoke-stack. It wasn't 3 days after living there that I had chronic nosebleeds, headaches, and chapped lips like a mother-fucker. (No, those symptoms weren't from crack, haha). Needless to say I moved out of there soon and shit cleared right up.
