@TheStandofTheLastGuy English football as come a long way. in 1950 they lost to the Americans and in 2010 they managed a tie. Maybe one day, in the distant future, England will be able to win. lol
There has been a great deal of attention paid to the US 1–0 defeat of England in the 1950 World Cup. While this was certainly a historic upset, what seems to be forgotten every time this win is mentioned is that the United States lost its other two group games in horrendous fashion and was bounced from the World Cup without get ting out of group play– not to return for another 40 years. Instead of being celebrated as a shining moment, this marked the beginning of the Dark Ages for US soccer.
This was a pretty good movie. If you're a soccer fan I would say rent of buy it. I bought it at best buy. I also got Damned United which was awesome too.
as a Fluminense fan, i loved this error, but it stills an error, the stadium where the match happened is the Estádio da Independência in Belo Horizonte, but the stadium of this movie is Estádio Manoel Schwartz, a.k.a. Estádio das Laranjeiras in Rio de Janeiro, the stadium of Fluminense Football Club (no longer used since 2003)
just a note, the stadium where the movie was filmed in Brasil is Estádio Manoel Schwartz, a.k.a. Estádio das Laranjeiras, the stadium of Fluminense Football Club from Rio de Janeiro (it's no longer used since 2003 due safety reasons), the real match was in Belo Horizonte, but i guess they used Laranjeiras because it's the only stadium from this time that isn't world known (like maracanã)
Just to let u all know 5 out of 11 of this team was Scottish also the manager was Scottish. Come on can they do it again in 2010 yes yes they can! USA USA!
@Southgateboy agree, many teams in the world that was founded before 1910 has Football in english on their names, like 3 teams from Brazil: Fluminense Football Club, America Football Club (both from Rio) and Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense, with their foundation dates 1902, 1904 and 1903 respectivelly, and most part of the languages uses a variation of Football, in portuguese is Futebol, in spanish is Fútbol, in german is Fussball, and many other variations
The english were so cocky at that time... they considered themselves the best players in the world, the superior ones, and they believed it so hard that it was the first world cup the english team decides to participate... and the american football was so in the early moments that this victory achieved by amateur players really stunned the world. Those guys were simply amazing... heroes in fact. Hope american players could do the same nowadays.
That was like App St. and Michigan. I think a story like that deserves a better movie (or at least one with a bigger budget). It needed a memorable song, like remeber the titans or rudy. It needed more star power and most of all, more light hearted moments. I hope someone will redo this story. But its an ok start. nothing bad, just needs more work.

RHALALALALALAAA!!! ces américains a chaque exploit sportif, il nous font un film...et j'aime ça.
Sinon c'est évident le usa ne feront jamais de film sur la dream team au basket en 1992, pour notre plus grand bien car une branlé ça suffit

USA won 1 - 0 against the English Team in a stadium called Independência (Independence, in english).
EUA venceram por 1 a 0 a Inglaterra num estádio chamado Independência...
manovasco2006 2 years ago
This story is the biggest upset in sports history along with the USA hockey team's upset of the USSR in the 70's.
The story deserves a big budget treatment. This thing was gone in a week and sported a B list cast with an unmoving score.
the tag line should be "The greatest upset you've never heard of."
