I used to use Cubase on Steem the Atari STE emulator running a Roland SH32 via midi. The timing was spot on it was no different to the real thing. I remember Quartet on my first Atari ST it was the first time i ever produced music. It got me hooked on music production. Great days!!!
no, standard ST. check out CarVup for example, it had original Amiga MOD music running along smooth gameplay. If my memory serves me well, of course. But I've got excellent audio memory, so I trust it was like I describe.
The first time I experimented with Samples was with one of these!!

Yes sampling is possible on a ST/STe.

however on normal ST it takes alot of cpu time because its done using tricks with AY chip and so it cannot be used ingame
STe and better can do normal native sampling w/o taking much CPU time
