Great background info.. Great song. This one I think withstood the sands of time better than Evelyn Thomas' High Energy, becaurse it is less orchestral and more dance.
I saw Miquel Brown sing at the Cabaret Club in Bournemouth, '87 and she refused to sing this song because of the prevailing sexual health crisis. Did every other track of hers...but not this one. :o(
Nightingale, Thorpe Street, Brum, '87. Heard this as I entered the club for the first time, terrified and full of expectations, to see a fountain in the middle of the bar area and THE most beautiful man I'd ever seen - Chi-Chi, the doorman. Then I heard these lyrics...and I relaxed! Never looked back...or up! LOL
Thanks IAN! This was when Music was music, and people knew how to dance..God, those were the best of days 1983...Miguel Brown was number one in my book, and always will be..
I have been searching for this song for over 25 yrs...Thanks...This was number one for months in all gay bars in America..
Just back in Brum (live in Japan) and clubs that used to play this great music are all housey-techno cr@p. Anyone play HI-NRG oldies any more? I used to DJ this "gay" music in straight clubs in Brum in 81-83 before I hit the world. This was perfect for Bangkok where I was when it came out. I play this stuff in Japan sometimes, tough to programme it in. Techno, trance and sh1t - give me a song I can sing along to, with a HUGE beat any day.
Ian Levine, Ian Anthony Stephens, Paul Parker, Patrick Cowley (RIP), Megatone, Power, Lime, Canadian Unidisc obscurities, Bobby "O", Record Shack, Funky Dunc (RIP), Tony De Vit (RIP), The Nightingale.... memories... another message coming now, but it was too long to send in one :-)
It's a sickening theft, all down to some evil company who stole it and used it as a house loop. If I had the money I'd sue them and shut the bastards down.
Another classic gem! I was a kid (9 years old) but I had the coolest aunt who would blast the 45 on her record player(she was 22 at the time) plus they would play it here in the nyc area (ktu).
I love this. As Mr Levine says, in spite of being a bit hit around the world, in the UK it was confined to the underground world of the few gay clubs we had - a real act of rebellion just to be in them, kids today don't know they're born (omg I can't believe I just said that!). Anyway, it takes me straight back to those pre-Aids days. Am I the only one left alive?
We had a brill D.J who opened our eyes to this great music at youth club discos when we were 13 yrs old. Don't think it's camp at all, just gold music. I'm alive with ya.xx
also at discos here in Japan all over. Of course I used to dance to it very often, when I was a very young 20something... Good memories. Many thanks for posting of the nice video!
Hello from Tokyo. This tune was also a huuuuuuge hit at discos all over Japan BITD. Of course I used to dance to it very often, when I was a young 20something... Many thanks for posting of the nice video!
I saw Miguel Brown perform this live at a gay disco New Years Eve event (Dec 82 or 83) at Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco. There were about 1500 men at this event...great fun. Oh, the theme of the event was taken from the title of the song, "so many men...so little time". (That was near the end of the disco era.) Great song, great performer.
I was a DJ at THE dance club in San Francisco when this record was a hit. No matter how we mixed it in, the regulars would all scream and the floor would get so full you couldn't dance, just bounce around.
Brings back lots of memories of working in Heaven in the 80's. I also remember Ian bringing in a follow-up to this to the staff it was "Countdown" by Kofi & the Lovetones and saying he used one of the tracks from "so many men" on it :-) - why that stuck in my mind I don't know.
Hi Ian, love all the posts. Why don't you release all the record shack titles as acapellas? Think of it. The songs are brilliant uplifting pure club music. Times have changed. Imagine, all the 'ladies' singing this today. The Record Shack revival is surely only around the corner. Anyway I'm still living my own life and no one can change me ...
This reminds me of my late school days, I just love this tune to death, Ian Levine makes such classic tunes. I danced my backside of to this in my bedroom !!
juan esta muy buena la musica de este video sobre todo el ritmo, y la combinacion de sonidos, por eso es uno de los mejores videos de high energy en especial para hacer ejercicio, y bailar a todo lo que da.
As a straight guy myself I think there should be something for women as well, and here it is. Great tune and us straight guys are fine with playing it. I agree.
dude !!! let me just say that you are the fuckin man because this was the shit back in the day (STILL ROCKS THE CLUB TO THIS DAY) and now that i know the story behind where people doubted you and say you couldn't SELL CAUSE DISCO WAS DEAD, the fact that you prove them wrong makes you an even bigger influence when i tell these labels about my own music when they think something wont work
This is one of my favourite songs and it was a big hit in France when it was released. Evelyn Thomas with High Energy and The Weather Girls with It's raining men had huge success too.
A interesting song from Miquel Brown many known in Brasil from the 80´s. A classic! and Miquel Brown is a ebony godess of evory in this clip! A sensation, and full of sensuality.
Mr. Levine, you are a legendary dance artist! It's a shame that "So Many Men, So Little Time by Miquel Brown and "High Energy" by Evelyn Thomas are only known by CLUBBERS in the 80s. Those two songs are probably 2 of the best dance songs EVER recorded! I only hope that more oldies stations play these two songs in the future. AWESOME TRACKS!
esta cancion me pone a bailar como loco ,me enciende, me prende,,ya no hacen musica como esta, musica de discotec yo recuerdo mis 80's como ninguna otra epoca esa si era musica pero solo recuerdos...
Mr Levine! you are a legend. This music was far ahead of its time. I remeber being in Heaven in 1984 and this came on. I also remeber the record shop " record shack" in Soho. This song brings back so happy memories. can i just confirm Miquel Browns daugter is Sinnita?
muy buen video. tengo 25 años y pues que les puedo decir, aunque no me toco este tipo de musica mi mama le gusta mucho y hasta ahora tuve la oportunidad de ver el video que por cierto va para mi coleccion personal.
Mr. Levine - you and I have been to a LOT of parties together. I was a dj for over 15 years here in the Detroit area, and whenever I played a floor-filler I always take note of the mixer and writer. And even though we have never met, you have given me such joy over the years and I wanted to thank you for all of the happiness you have brought into my life. My passion for music and your passion for perfection have been one hell of a team over the years. What time do the boys come to town? ;-)
Wow I thought she looked like Sinita, this song is great. The countdown bit seems like it's heading into 'It Raining Men' but i'm glad it doesn't. How can I choose?????
What's with Miquel Brown and her daughter Sinitta with the word "so". Miquel's biggest hit was "So Many Men So Little Time" and her daughter Sinitta's biggest hit "So Macho". What a coincidence.
Can't believe this song is still so popular after like twenty something years it was released...it truly is a dance classic. They still play it like crazy here on NY's 103.5 KTU.
This was my ultimate HiNRG song. I always bought 12" versions and this one is my pride and joy. I actually bought 2 copies...one to keep in case anything happened to the one I played.
This is like a dream where Donna Summer sings lead in a Village People video. And who knew a song about bein' a Ho could be some dam danceable and fun! Yaaaaaaaaaayyyyy !!!!
I love this song. Wasn't even born when it was released, but it remained a favorite on some french radios when I was a kid, in the 90's. Since then,I bought the 45...Disco wasn't dead then, and it still ain't! ;)
Been trying to track this track down for years! Since the 80s in fact - I had the title wrong - thought it was "so many DAYS"! The perils of dancing in too many ear-bashing discos...
At last, we are re-united!
It's a crime this track never charted in the UK.
I feel a cover version coming on by someone like Kylie...
Search for "Ian Levine" he wrote and produced most of the music from those disco days and has a fantasic youtube website bringing old and new artists together again.
I was overjoyed to, at last, have the honour of meeting Miquel Brown at the launch party for Ian Levine's latest CD/DVD "Yesterday And Tomorrow". Miquel is indeed the most lovely of ladies and it was fantastic to be able to have two, quite lengthy, conversations with her, covering a multitude of subjects.
Miquel came to our fabulous launch of the "Yesterday And Tomorrow" album last night. She looked radiant, everybody loved her, and she took photos with all the artists who have made brand new versions of her hit songs.
Mr Levine 1st of all congratulations, but I think most of your productions must not have to have covers, I mean, let us all of the contemporary adults remember the original hi- nrg music, even the young ones like my 12 year old son enjoy them.
Our brand new version, by Donna Williams, is even better than the original. You can see a clip of it on the trailer for the new album, "Yesterday And Tomorrow". Just click on my name to go to my YouTube page, and it's the main video on there right now.
Could you tell me when this song was released, who directed the video-clip for it and under which label it was released? It's a great video! Reminds me of the Weather Girls' "It's Raining Men"... Just a few years later such lyrics would have been impossible to perform. Talk about timing...
Oh God ! this song drives me crazy... I was so young and cute. Those words were made for me, yeh Baby, so many men, so little time !! From Paris, to Rome and N.Y., I was doing to all kind of parties, it was GREAT fun ! Here I'm, 42 now and still crazy when I listen to this song...
Great background info.. Great song. This one I think withstood the sands of time better than Evelyn Thomas' High Energy, becaurse it is less orchestral and more dance.

Fantasic track here too.

Hey Mr. Levine!
Could you tell me when this song was released, who directed the video-clip for it and under which label it was released? It's a great video! Reminds me of the Weather Girls' "It's Raining Men"... Just a few years later such lyrics would have been impossible to perform. Talk about timing...
