regardless of your preference in marching and playing styles....both sides did exceptional. how often do you see things like this? not many times, and even when it does happen, its never as entertaining or technical as this. in my most humble of opinions....this was amazing and should happen more often, on the subject of A&T v NSU, no matter what year, A&t has always been dirty, but fun to watch, NSU has been clean and fun to watch..nuff said.
More of this sort of thing needs to happen. And for all the HBCU haters, there are some HBCU lines that probably have more corp alumni than some of your corp styl bands. FACT.
@Jpromark just in case u didnt know...highstepping came before corp...but either way both styles take alot of work...i march both so i know how tolling on the body high stepping is and how difficult corp is so dont knock it...but SCSU is becoming more diverse because their instructor marched corp. S/O to Bongos
at 3:36 did they put the drum stick up their own ass?!?!? kinda wat it looked like...if i was yall id go ahead and scratch that visual...kinda looked gay...
i being a former member of MDFS (NSU), has always looked the other way at SCSU LIne, but the Young Lady that went to Wilson, and ole boy with the dreds have gotten my attention on Youtube!!!! Both Lines were great, and especially proud of the two i mentioned above as well
Ultimately this is whats it all about, furthering the progression of percussion as a whole! IU crushed, SCSU crushed, awesome job by both lines. I'll leave you all with this...chops are chops whether its show style or corps style. Keep crankin!!
S/O to SCSU for representing WELL for the MEAC and HBCU's. There's been a lot of talk thru the years that HBCU lines couldn't compare but this clearly proves otherwise. S/O to IU too. You guys were great!...good battle
@irdeson.Much respect..only reason i said that is because SCSU percussion instructor was a former snare drummer for the blue devils which gives them an edge on most HBCU percussion section. like i said before i love hbcu percussion section VSU, MDFS, JCSU, A&T, Albany State, BCC, Howard drumline is coming up, i live right down the street from howard and theyre stepping their game up big time. Those are some of my favorite lines. Check out the vid Scsu vs Mdfs.
@kglasker a few of the HBCU lines (MEAC) particularly have either had instructors or members in the line that marched DCI, MDFS (Alex Blake) and Sticky (Ralph Nader) for example, so as you stated the gap is definitely starting to lessen, and over all quality in playing is definitely going up
@kglasker Much love and respect I currently play snare at Savannah State University(Krush Groove) .......... but yeah we need more percussion intructors just like the one at SCSU
As a member of a visiting high school band that day (Seymour, mellophone 1.) I think I speak for our entire band when I say we were completly BLOWN away by both bands. As our director went to IU we do alot of big ten band performances, and the SCSU band blew everyone out of the water. You guys are all such great inspirations to high school musicans, thank you so much for such a GREAT performance :))))))
I love HBCU and Div. 1 drumlines but Scsu drumline i feel is the only HBCU percussion section that can keep up with any Div 1 percussion section hands down.
@kglasker Imma fan huge of BBI bruh I aint trynna put yo statement down but mainly most meac drumlines(minus famu) could compete with a div. 1 drumline
@kglasker Come on now. Most posts on here have disputed this perspective. I know this is how you feel but you are some how affiliated with SCSU are you? Please listen the responses that you have gotten. In essence what you are saying is that SCSU drumline is the best in all of HBCU. I dont think this can be decided without a real competition.
Shoutout and mad props to all the guys and gals in the SCSU Drumline! It's not often we get a chance to drum with any drumlines outside of the Big Ten and this will definitely go down as one of the best drum offs we've had in the history of the IU Drumline. Absolute blast! Thanks again guys!
I'm the section leader at Savannah State University and I have to say out of all the HBCU conferences the MEAC has the best drumlines. I'm glad to see the trend of the HBCU drumline wanting to be more technical...it's a good movement. (I wish FAMU would get on board with it.)
But yeah Bango Brothers, MDF$, ColdSteel, Sudden Impact, and Krush Groove are the lines to look for in the MEAC! NICE BATTLE.
@crunkcymbals09 technically FAMU is technical with the drums its just that they have their own style and its been that way for years. it looks like they use the moller technique though
First off, shout out to IU home of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
Good to see these two squads getting a chance to showcase their skills.
All those hours of practice make this 10-15 minutes all worth it for a lifetime of memories. Great job to both sides. Bongo Brothers Inc. keep doing the damn thing!
I'm the 7 ft giant on the right end of the IU snare line and i just wanted to say that SCSU was SICK! those guys were so cool and I had a blast drumming with them
Props to both lines! Probably the most fun I've had in a line. =]
This is what I'm talking about! HBCU and PWC lines exchanging cadences! Great job to my BBI FFAm, and the UI Line! That 'Roll Out' bass drum lick was nice!
Such a great time! So glad SCSU was able to come up to this game. Wish we could have played some more and talked a bit, but it was great to play with you all!
@dsmalls100 I think the way that A&T gets the crowd involved is outstanding. I watched them one time against aahh NSU their drumline said something like " we will wipe the floor with your a**". That statement got the crowd so into I thought there would be a riot. I think Cold Steel is one of the top. Now if you've played drums, or was ever in a band that I would defer to you on this topic, because I can only see this from a fan's point of view.
@dsmalls100 Now you know as a Bongo member yourself you know I wont try to debate you about this, hell I failed music. It seems like maybe the Cold Steel that I'm talking is no longer the one that they are putting out there. I say this because everyone seems to agree with you about Cold Steel.
this my home state (indiana) they decent but you cant compete with HBCU's lol good job to both tho you already know SCSU took it
