shotguns are really the only thing u can use were i live for big game or a bow because your not aloud anything bigger then a 22 in rifles so the only thing u can go deer hunting with is a bow or a shotgun
@hunting2748 in the UK? Yeah I have been reviewing your guy's laws in the UK and man I thought us Canadians had it bad, but at least if we can posses a shotgun, (With a PAL), we can Posses almost Any Rifle no matter what the caliber.
@Nwest82 no i live in canada but i live in ontario and to my knowledge in ontario u can own a rifle over 22 cal but can not fire it in ontario thats why i wrote that a shotgun is all you can use
@hunting2748 Not even during hunting season? I'm in Fredericton, New Brunswick. And to the best of my knowledge, during hunting season we can take our .303's, .308's, .30-06's etc. out hunting for deer. I actually just got a .50cal Black Powder, front-loading, flint-lock rifle to go out with next year, (no PAL is required for a flint-lock rifle), but before that I always went out with my British .303 MKIII or my .308 Remington Woodsmaster.
@Nwest82 no not even during hunting season because they say that theres not enought bush so ur not aloud any rifle over a 22 except a muzzeload for hunting witch i find stupid cause were i live there is tones of bush but its a law for all of ontario so if your going for deer you need to use a shotgun and the shotgun season is only 2 weeks i think so everyone just uses a crossbow cause bow hunting for deer is open almost all winter
@hunting2748 Wow that sucks? Thanks for the lesson, I had no clue that the hunting laws varied from Canadian city to city like that. We have all kinds of wooded areas down here. it probley explains why we have so many hunters come from out west, etc, when its hunting season. You should try the muzzle-loading hunt, its so much fun taking deer with a .50cal smoke-pole!
I'm traditionally a big game hunter and self defense guy, but I mite be going rabbit hunting with a friend....what guage and type of round should I use?
I'm traditionally a big game hunter and self defense guy, but I mite be going rabbit hunting with a friend....what guage and type of round should I use?
@cv0lv0g0 You sir are an idiot. The grooves are there to stabilize the slug. Lead is a relatively soft metal but will swage only so much. A full choke will try to swage the slug to tight, which will cause unsafe pressure levels and will eventually fatigue the metal to the point of failure. In the future I recommend giving advice on subjects you fully understand.
@gopedguy27 While shooting slugs with a full choke is definitely not my idea of fun, you can see slow-mo videos that prove that the "fins" or "rifling" does not imprint spin on slugs. They are there to prevent friction, since Brenneke slugs are drag stabilized by a wad.
@gopedguy27 ALSO QUOTED DIRECTLY FROM BRENNEKE. "Moving the weight to the front of the slug provided stability, preventing the projectile from tumbling in flight. It resulted in accuracy never before achieved from a smoothbore barrel. The ribs, contrary to popular opinion, are not designed to act like rifling in a rifle barrel, but compress to allow the slug to easily pass through a choked shotgun barrel."
@killer71000 No, do not shoot slugs from a full choke. Do not listen to this idiot who said you can, the fins on a rifled slug ARE meant to help stabilize the slug in flight. Slugs should only be shot through modified or less.
I have many different guns pistols, rifles and shot guns but i think the 12 gauge shot gun is my favorite just the power and mass destruction is awesome.
The "rifling" on your slug, is not to improove accuracy... It is a design by the German ammunitions factory "Brenneke".. It is made to give the excess lead a "place to go" when you fire it through a tight bore, instead of blowing the barrel up.... ;-)
Cool vid, would like to see some specialty rounds geared for home/personal defense as you showed the shells here. Like the Winchester PDX-1 and other specialty rounds. Again very cool vid thanks.
There's a way to turn bird-shot into a home defense round, almost like a slug. by cutting the plastic nearly but not quite all the way through just above the brass. the whole plastic shell comes off and stays together till it hits something, the only thing that ejects is the brass. It's devastating!
this might seem like a dum question but is it recomended to shoot winchester amo on a remington shotgun? or vice versa...remington amo on a winchester or any other make other than a remington? does it matter or make a difference?
@gilberto83 no it doesnt make a difference other than different brands will hit in different areas, always practice before goin out to try to kill somthing.
@gilberto83 Remington ammunition is ammunition. Winchester ammunition is ammunition. Shotguns take ammunition. Winchester shotgun + Remington ammo = bang, hole in target. Remington shotgun + Winchester ammo = bang, hole in target. W s/g + W a = bang, hole in target. R s/g + R a = bang, hole in target. Ammunition is sold by caliber/gauge, not by "this gun only accepts this brand". If a major manufacturer comes up with a new round for a rifle, they monopolize on it until everyone else catches up.
@coldpak82 The rifling on the round itself causes the round to spin due to friction of the groves against the smooth bore. Heat causes the round to expand against the walls of the barrel.
I really like #1 buck shot compared to 00 buck for home defense...its just a preference of having .30 caliber of 16 pellets compared to 8 or 9 pellets at .33 caliber of 00 buck..both are proven to have similiar penetration through ballistic studies..just a thought..
Bear... I don't believe so, its not an issue of velocity or even impact force but bullet expansion that would be the main factor. The problem is bear have such thick skin and very thick muscle tissue, most bear rated ammo I have seen is a bonded core or something similar. What that means is that the bullet itself (the lead part) has a controlled expansion, the lead expands significantly later in the final stages of travel than a conventional round.
hey man i need some help. on the winchester super-x box of 12 gauge 2 3/4 inch shells it says 3 1/4 DR. EQ. and on another box it says 3 1/2 DR. EQ. what does the DR. and EQ. mean
what do you guys think about carefully opening up some cheap bird shot and replacing the contents with various things like sling shot ammo, or bb's, or air gun pellets.. or a mixure of thoes, etc,.. ?
i know your not 'supposed to' do that, but are there any 'real' dangers doing this? i payed 100 bucks for the gun, so i dont care if the rounds 'scuff' it up a little...
you can also get rounds such as slug on top and 00 buckshot on the bottom in one round, double slug, ones with arrows instead of pellets or shot, flame thrower, spark thrower, tacks, bean bags, armor piercing, exploding, pepper blast, bolo rounds- to large balls attached to a string ment to trip targets or tie them, those are the ones that i know of that he didn't mention and 000 buck google exotic 12 gauge ammo
can u shoot sabbots thru smooth and rifled barrels? and can u shoot rifled slugs out of both barrels as well? Also, do u know if people actually hunt with buck shot or is that mainly a HD round?
@ballygeale1 All day long but at closer range from lack of real accuracy on a slandered, smothbore barrel, with a rifled slug. A refiled slug barrel, with the right slugs you can shoot it 100+ yards.
@NewDaysofNoah I'd rather not take on a brown with a shotgun thank you very much, blacks fine, sure you can put down a brownie with a shotgun, but really, it's a fools choise
@Jaahaah Check out bear guides backup guns a lot use shotguns and slugs for that do or die shot. A 12 GA slug rates right up there with the biggest high power rifles under 50 yards.
@ballygeale1 with a reasonably placed shot it will most definatly kill a bear! Basicly anything that is in the rang of a 1oz shotgun slug will be killed if hit with it! Maybe an elaphant would live but other than that a good slug is extremly devistating!
@ballygeale1 Shure it would. If you put it in the right place...The problem with bears is that they are capable of anaerobic metabolism in the brain, unlike humans. If you completely cut off blood supply to the bear's brain by, say exploding the heart, the bear's brain will work without oxygen for 2-4 minutes. They can do a lot of damage in 2-4 minutes. One of the Plains Indian tribes called the grizzly bear "the bear that will not die." The amount of energy is tremendous!
@BuickDoc That can happen to humans to, just that usually the pain and just the shock of getting shot in the heart would drop somebody instantly, but they wont die until their brain is cut of oxygen, which can take up to a minute. Somebody high on coke might just ignore the pain and knowing he's been shot and keep shoting until he dies, even though he has been shot clean through the heart
@ballygeale1 You can kill almost anything with almost any round. I've seen .22lr used to put down cattle. As with any hunting or killing, shot placement is the best determinate of how effective a shot will be. But the short answer is yes. A shotgun slug will kill a bear. Especially a sabot slug in a rifled barrel because it will fly faster and penetrate further. Just remember, shot placement, shot placement, shot placement. Where would you survive a bullet and where wouldn't you? Its that easy.
@SoccerDJRob is an excellent choice for home defense. There is alot of lead to hit your target and it would only take a single pellet to subdue an intruder or straight kill them. Just kinda point in that direction and pull the trigger. Problem solved! Good ? man.
@SoccerDJRob yea but it will most likely go through every one of your walls and end up outside somewhere, as long as it doesnt hit like steel or anything like that.
@RRViper800TT actually bird shot is very effective @home defense distances. lots of people believe bird shot is ineffective and it may be true out pass 20-30 yards but remember your room isn't 30 yards in length (unless you live in a mega mansion)..that shot is still coming out like a solid 1oz. slug. It can remove the average home invader with 2 well placed shots. Buckshot...we all know that"s the cream in the coffee..but b careful not 2 over penetrate bcuz it will
Just a thought...Consider that 12 gauge 00 buck has enough penetration in a self-defense situation to go through a wall and potentially hurt an innocent person on the other side...Let me know if you find some other 12 gauge self-defense ammo?
@WRSvideos depends what you want to use it for. Home defense a mossberg 500 or Remington 870 are great choices. Even single shot or coach guns are good. For sport(skeet/clay) an over under. Lots of choices out there.
@WRSvideos I recently got a saiga 12 for 300 bucks. I prefer it over my mossberg 500a cuz of the semiauto action and speed. I like the pumps cuz technically its possible to never run out of ammo with them and they will never jam. But, the aftermarket saiga standard mag size is 10-12 rounds with 20 and 30 round drums availible also, plenty of lead poison for any threat : ) . The saiga 12 wins shotgun competitions everywher and is only rivaled by the Vepr 12 and the SPAS 15 both of which ghosts.

the rifling doesnt effect accuracy on foster slugs. its just there to let the slug swag down if youre firing it through a choke.
Alldickedup 8 months ago
Shotgun velocities and chamber pressures don't vary much and powder weight varies even less.
The only real factor to be considered is the projectile configuration.
If you shoot a Turkey with 00 you probably won't hit it beyond 50 yds.
A Deer sized target is hard to drop beyond 75 Yds. with 00.
Slugs (Rifled and smooth) and Saboted Slugs are almost as accurate as a Rifle out to 150 Yds. (or more if you are good).
#6 will take Rabbits, Squirrels, Ducks but not Geese.

@ballygeale1
Rifles are better for penetration but a heavy slug is extremely devastating, good shot placement would easily kill a bear.
bIGbUTtHole420 1 year ago
@ballygeale1 A 2 3/4" slug is proven to put a 6" hole through 3 car doors with one shot, im sure it will penetrate bear skull
willjoh08 1 year ago
@willjoh08 6 in hole in a car door? Where is this test proven at? It will make a hole slightly larger then the round itself...
Dmac11a666 1 year ago
@ballygeale1 with a reasonably placed shot it will most definatly kill a bear! Basicly anything that is in the rang of a 1oz shotgun slug will be killed if hit with it! Maybe an elaphant would live but other than that a good slug is extremly devistating!
bobwatters 1 year ago
@ballygeale1 Shure it would. If you put it in the right place...The problem with bears is that they are capable of anaerobic metabolism in the brain, unlike humans. If you completely cut off blood supply to the bear's brain by, say exploding the heart, the bear's brain will work without oxygen for 2-4 minutes. They can do a lot of damage in 2-4 minutes. One of the Plains Indian tribes called the grizzly bear "the bear that will not die." The amount of energy is tremendous!
BuickDoc 1 year ago
@BuickDoc That can happen to humans to, just that usually the pain and just the shock of getting shot in the heart would drop somebody instantly, but they wont die until their brain is cut of oxygen, which can take up to a minute. Somebody high on coke might just ignore the pain and knowing he's been shot and keep shoting until he dies, even though he has been shot clean through the heart

@ballygeale1 - Yes, Copper Solid Slug (remington) can kill a grizzly. (do not use hollow point lead slugs)
It can break the bone.
HauptmannDeaf 8 months ago
@ballygeale1 You can kill almost anything with almost any round. I've seen .22lr used to put down cattle. As with any hunting or killing, shot placement is the best determinate of how effective a shot will be. But the short answer is yes. A shotgun slug will kill a bear. Especially a sabot slug in a rifled barrel because it will fly faster and penetrate further. Just remember, shot placement, shot placement, shot placement. Where would you survive a bullet and where wouldn't you? Its that easy.

double ot is written 00 right? is it good take down power for home defense?
SoccerDJRob 1 year ago
nice vid... i use the slugs for bears and moose from a rifled slug barrel. very accurate out to 150 yrds.
ljalaska 1 year ago
@ljalaska true people would be surprised how accurate a shotgun with a rifled barrel can be, of course it's all in the shooter:)

@ljalaska double ot is written 00 right? is it good take down power for home defense?
SoccerDJRob 1 year ago
@SoccerDJRob is an excellent choice for home defense. There is alot of lead to hit your target and it would only take a single pellet to subdue an intruder or straight kill them. Just kinda point in that direction and pull the trigger. Problem solved! Good ? man.
ljalaska 1 year ago
@ljalaska Thanks, im new to shotguns; riffles well thats a diffrent story, but yeah thanks for telling me
SoccerDJRob 1 year ago
@SoccerDJRob yea but it will most likely go through every one of your walls and end up outside somewhere, as long as it doesnt hit like steel or anything like that.

GreenKoldAid 1 year ago
i know slugs are great for distance, a must have, but would buck or bird shot be more effective at close range home defense?
RRViper800TT 1 year ago
@RRViper800TT actually bird shot is very effective @home defense distances. lots of people believe bird shot is ineffective and it may be true out pass 20-30 yards but remember your room isn't 30 yards in length (unless you live in a mega mansion)..that shot is still coming out like a solid 1oz. slug. It can remove the average home invader with 2 well placed shots. Buckshot...we all know that"s the cream in the coffee..but b careful not 2 over penetrate bcuz it will
HidNAgnda 1 year ago
Just a thought...Consider that 12 gauge 00 buck has enough penetration in a self-defense situation to go through a wall and potentially hurt an innocent person on the other side...Let me know if you find some other 12 gauge self-defense ammo?

dakine425 1 year ago
I'm going to buy a shotgun, can anyone suggest a SG I should buy?
WRSvideos 1 year ago
@WRSvideos depends what you want to use it for. Home defense a mossberg 500 or Remington 870 are great choices. Even single shot or coach guns are good. For sport(skeet/clay) an over under. Lots of choices out there.
dakine425 1 year ago
@WRSvideos I recently got a saiga 12 for 300 bucks. I prefer it over my mossberg 500a cuz of the semiauto action and speed. I like the pumps cuz technically its possible to never run out of ammo with them and they will never jam. But, the aftermarket saiga standard mag size is 10-12 rounds with 20 and 30 round drums availible also, plenty of lead poison for any threat : ) . The saiga 12 wins shotgun competitions everywher and is only rivaled by the Vepr 12 and the SPAS 15 both of which ghosts.

Did you get all this one sale or something? If so, where?
Stradivarius12506 1 year ago
@Stradivarius12506 The birdshot was bought at walmart. The 00buck and slugs were purchased at a local gun shop
