Harry Nilsson left behind EXCELLENT work! Indeed, both his songs and his arrangements for them are a part of his legacy. Nilsson is GREAT! Although underrated, he did put out some great tunes.
Louie Jordan, eh? I def must hear that. Thankx. Harry is THE #1 singer ever! to me, and that's all that really matters I guess. Turned lots of people on to him via THE BEATLES saying their fav American singer. Pandemanium Shadow Show on 8-track
Thanks for posting this. For some reason it popped into my head yesterday. I have the album, but on vinyl (and no longer have a turntable). And thanks to browncoats4ever for the info. I'm a huge Louis Jordan fan, but never knew this was one of his. Dookie Chase, btw, which is mentioned, is a famous restaurant here in New Orleans.
A great song highlighting Harry Nilsson's incredible vocal range. A really cool song from a great album. Also, real cool use of pictures. Thanks for sharing.
I was so crazy in love with this madman from the moment I first heard his voice. Wild, wild, talent, creative off the charts brilliant genius man. I miss him so much! Never met him, just a fan, but he made life so different. Harry. Harry. I hope you are okay out there in eternity, man. Miss you, thank you!
Anyone know how to play this or know where I can find sheet music for it? I know it's probably simple, but I'm not much of a piano or keyboard player and tried to pick out the notes on my guitar without much success.
Hauntingly, sparingly beautiful song...just a man and his er...um...organ. R I P Harry...lol...DOOKIE CHASE! Check out stories of Harry and John Lennon getting ripped for days on end in L A...good times!
F YEA!!! I completely forgot about this song! This whole album was and still is BADD ASS! WILL someone PLEASE get Lime in the coconut original on here???!!!
I have to say I am not much of a morning person. I have never heard this Harry song. I like it! When I was reading through the comments about the lil boy I was curious...I got I good laugh when he appeared on the screen!
This is just what I need for my Harry Nilsson nostalgia (triggered by the Coconut Song). I love the pics you put with the song - especially the sleepy-head in the blue jammies.
I had Nilsson Schmilsson on LP at age 16 (yes, I'm old) and I remember playing this song for my parents. I was going "Isn't this guy brilliant??!!" and they were just listening with glazed eyes. (They grew up with Lawrence Welk. . . .)
I took a picture of this boy this via my cell phone and emailed it from Denver to Tucson...causing joy to a friend who sent it on to Nevada...so he is getting around!!! I then sent it to Dallas and I hear it then went to Massachusetts....Thanks again, Glen922!
Nilsson a master and missed..I grew up listening to him with my Dad. Played him all the time .Set me up in my knowledge and taste in music. This guy was miles ahead...class act
My favorite from this album, of the MANY times I listenened to it, is "I'll Never Leave You" - I don't see it posted anywhere. It's a perfect song. He was a genius. THANKS for posting this!
None were. They were all out on the web, which I hope is public domain enough for use here. I'm grateful to the original photographers and artists for making their works available.
My mom played this album all the time when we were kids (I was born in '69) and we loved to dance to the increasing craziness in "Coconut"... this one just cracked us up :)
The album was a really weird floppy/flexible 33 and 1/3 made of "dynaflex"....never seen one like that before or since.
What an incredible voice Harry Nilsson had!!

Love Harry's arrangement of this song. The original was done by Louis Jordan in the 1940's. There's a video of that here on youtube, btw.
browncoats4ever 3 years ago 8
Really? I'd thought it was an original Nilsson. Thanks for the info. I'll check that out.
Harry did a full album of classic 40's music - Over the Rainbow, as time goes by, etc. He must have liked that era a lot.
