Everyone expects too much from pocket cams, if you want a perfect camcorder buy a full size, I own a flip non mino. Just an ultra hd, great for colour and I mean the 30 fps model flip not 60 fps. It's great for size, ease of use, quick change in different lighting, sounds good enough, the editing software is crazy easy. I also own the kodak zx1, and knowing it's not a full size camcorder , think it's 60 fps mode is great, for 80 bucks , but it's just too bad one company can't do the possible
@stoopkid80 You can easily see the specifications by going to Kodak's website. That might save you some time over the 3 hours it took you trying to spell "pictures" correctly. It's okay that you gave up; not everyone is cut out for that *thinking* thing.
Hey how's the photo quality on the SD780? I know that it takes great videos but i really don't get to hear much from the photo quality view. Also how's the mic on the on it? Does it pick up a lot of surround sounds? If i was to record a live rock performance with the SD would the sound be decent? Thanks.
nice comparison. I have the 780 and the hd in low light is really poor. I expected better handling of noise. the video is big but its only clear under the best of circumstances. still worth the money but don't expect to be blown away.
the zx1 is in a class all by its self its a sport weather proof u realy cant compare the canon isnot weather proof ive seen people drop the zx1 in a bucket of water pull it out and keep shootin video no problems lets see u do that with your canon
Hi, I just want to know what kind of software you're using to upload/edit the HD movies that you are taking. I have the canon SD780 and I LOVE IT, but I haven't been able to upload/edit any of the clips I took on the software that I have now. I have an HP laptop btw.
that is true, but the ZX1 is already being replaced by the Zi8 so price of ZX1 is falling. Zx1 doesn't shoot 12 mp stills and no image stabilization. it's a trade off and everyone has to look at their own needs to see which is best. congrats on the purchase, i'm sure you'll love it.
The ZX1 can shoot in 60 fps though while the sd780 is only capable of 30 fps. Also there's a huge difference in price - Canon is $200+ (I can't find for under $240 if tax and s&h is included). The Zx1? $120+. I got one today from Sears for $89 total w/ tax already included. I could almost get three Zx1's for the price of an Sd780...
me too, my fav is the color accent, works beautiful w/flowers and foliage, the hd vid is insane for such a little guy...my husband purchased it for my bday...
Well, the pictore of the Kodak is better outside (better blacklevel and sharp- and clearness), but the shake-effect is awfull. Inside both camera lags with noise. The Canon did also have color-compression-effects. So for me the kodak wins, but because of the skake-effects I would take the Canon...
the kodak seemed to lag more in hd then the canon did, and the audio quality it really different, with the canon u could actually here u walking, can u zoom in with the canon when not in hd movie mode, i know u can't in hd movie mode?, nice vid & house kyle
Well done comparison, thanks. The Canon is a clear cut winner to me. I'm really surprised how much better the sound was. I'd like to see someone compare the Canon to the Vado HD which I just ordered. Now I'm thinking maybe I should have ordered the Canon 780!

It looks to me like the Cannon wins in image and sound and the Kodak wins in image stabilization. It looks like you're using iMovie09 so you could use that to further stabilize the image. Thanks for the comparison. I'm in the market for a new camera and considering the SD780. -Jim

I use iMovie '09 on my iMac. If you have a PC you could try Windows Movie Maker. I think it's a free download from Microsoft's website

If your using imovie I would recommend using the stabilization feature for the kodak.

AFAIK, the Kodak has no image stabilization. (But maybe it speaks to the poor image stabilization supposed in the Canon that you can't tell).
