First thing I thought at the end of this film was the word poignant. Then this song came on and the next word I thought was sublime, though neither word does justice.
If you miss the part of the soundtrack when Anna is abused and she hears Lucy speak, thats because its not on the official soundtrack. Please check over on my channel.
part of me wants to set this as my ringtone and another part of me knows if i did, i would break down in tears or just feel depressed when someone calls me.
So I watched this film almost a year ago and I still can't forget about it and still get the urge to watch it now and again. I really want to tell my friends about it but I'm afraid they will just think it's disgusting and won't think about the meaning in it. I guess it's just one of those films I will have to treasure by myself forever.
@Ryuuji91 true, you shouldn't show it to them, i had watched it before and then one day my friends were over and we watched it together they didn't understand the meaning of the movie what so ever just laughed and thanked me for making them watch a lame movie, which it so is NOT!(:
this is the first film i walked out on in my life. The film was headfucking enough without me having read about near-death-experiences a few days before and having known someone who had one.
this movie shocked me .....very much, i'm not talking only about the violence...or the situations....i'm thinking about the loneliness....of suffering....
Such a sad and touching song, this definately sums up the whole entire bond between Anna and Lucie in this movie. I'm going to watch all of this finally tonight. I have paused it a good amount of times since I'm scared lmao. Is it really that scary?
The greatest film of all time. Not just a horror which it is and is not. I rate this above every masterpiece ever filmed because it is so cross genre. I couldn't believe it the first time I watched it and it changed the way I watch films forever. Great acting, great directing. (Pascal is amazing)...do yourself a favor...watch this film.
ok i just saw this movie and omg dude total mind fuck i have never thought more in my life wtf did anna say to the old bitch man i need to know fuck fuck fuck i just dont even know any more man like jesus christ dude just wow im amazed im confused im just blown away
i dotn understand you guys, this movie is so bad...whä i got abused and i see thing, omg i see god how cool, whaaaat she can see god?`i commit suicide to chill with him, stupid and lame
the people who called this film "torture-porn" obviously didn't have a firm grasp or understanding of the philosophical questions pertaining to religion and existence. It was a superfluously-violent film that was at the same time, socially poignant and thought-provoking. Martyrs is a truly under-appreciated film that receives a bad-rep due to genre films filled with excessive gore and no substance.
martyrs is one of the most amazing movies i've ever seen, truly perfect in every way and disturbing yet beautiful. and this song is so sad and sweet i can't get it out of my head.
great movie and it's comes from france my country ^^. I'm happy to see that we can make very good and complex movie. The realisation is very efficient and the original soundtrack is great (specially when the girl is alone in the jail under the house in second part of the movie). Good work M.Laugier ^^
"great movie and it's comes from france my country ^^. I'm happy to see that we can make very good and complex movie."
Indeed, it is a great film---very sad, powerful, brutal, and strangely uplifting. I'm from the US and (sadly) we rarely make films of such impact here right now.
It says something when people of different cultures can be so effected by a deep movie like this.
Martyrs has become an obession of mine. Ive seen the film 5 times and I feel i need to see it about 10 more times just for it all to sink in. The first time I saw Martyrs i was so scared I seriously cryed. Of course there were some substances in me that im sure made it more terrifying then watching it sober. Still i love this flim...I love this song. Cant wait for the american remake to see if it can hold up to the original
@TravisLaffoon oh noooo are you sure the usa planning an remake of this masterpiece...it hsould remaind untouched!!!!!! just remember the funny games remake awful
@fatalmedicalcoma No, wait wait wait. The Funny Games remake for me was better than the original. For some reason the American actors they chose to play the two young villains were creepier and more psychopathic. Listen sometimes remakes work and most times they don't.
However a remake of Martyrs is blasphemy of the highest order. This much we can agree on. Martyrs should absolutely remain untouched. Hollywood butchering THIS film will be the straw that breaks the camel's back for me.
couldnt agree more. its one of the few (the only?) movies that literally scars your mind in a hauntingly beautiful way. i doubt that the american remake can get anywhere close. you cant make something better than perfect.
but it will certainly generate more recognition for Morjana Alaoui and Mylène Jampanoï - they deserve it so much.
First movie thats left me a little depressed by the ending...... the notion that talk of the afterlife would lead somebody to suicide, for whatever reason, is somewhat disturbing.
La pelicula me gusto, creo que tiene un mensaje espiritual muy importante y me gusto el video las fotos muy bien escogidas, la cancion es muy triste...
I'd go with ignorant but that's because they likely didn't see it which is ironic. Masterpiece? The jury is still out on that but I compare it The Texas Chainsaw Massacare and some of Takashi Miike's cinema in tone alone. Not over bloody or gory (no eyeballs snipped off...aghh!) but it's pretty dark in nature and not an easy ending to explain.
You're right! Thing I love about the Martyrs version is that muffled, crunchy guitar that doesn't actually play any notes. It doesn't seem to be listed in the credits. Great soundtrack, great movie.
No, I haven't. Seppuku Paradigm did the soundtrack but maybe not that particular piece. I found this - "We got the gig very late in the process of making the movie. We were hired as a replacement, some high profile musician had fled when confronted to the task ahead I guess." Could that have been John Murphy? I sent an email. Let you know if I find the answer.
Thanks for that..I have now found a different version on here, by John Murphy, from 28 Days later, after someone answered my post on IMDB..Would stil love the Martyrs verson, or better still, want a Martrs soundtrack.. I think you were on that thread with me - i am Dantezero there..

Mystery solved! From Seppuku Paradigm - "Yes it's us. However it is not a cover, rather a different piece of music directly inspired by John Murphy. We really love his scores and while working on 'Martyrs' we did this 'rework' without even thinking we would ever use it,but for some reason we tried it on the sequence you mentioned and it actually worked pretty well,so we decided to keep it.
The original soundtrack will be available as a free download in just a few days from our website:"
Thanks for all this.. Have been to check them out on My space and will be checking daily as I really can't wait for the soundtrack! Thnaks again for all your help on this.
