Actually, the Steel Asylum is based off a cage match from AAA in Mexico. They also "borrowed" the ring shape from AAA, as mackbsu below your comment says.

TNA didn't create this match. They got it from AAA in Mexico, which is the same place they got their ring idea from. Basically the same place along with other Mexican promotions that American promotions get their fast paced lightweight style wrestling.

Sorry TNA isn't that innovative. They only created a few matches that WWE hasn't, and this is not one of them since they didn't actually create it.
