You know whats sad? I'm 18 and I love blues, i tried to go and see Buddy Guy live at a Blues Bar in Chicago and i couldn't get in because i wasn't 21...i don't care if i cant drink or go to the bar i just want to enjoy seeing this legend live
Buddy's an Original! I saw him in the 80's at the Diamond Club in Toronto, He was doing a fast blues shuffle, ran off the side stage>outside> out the laneway> sidewalk in front of the club> bought a hotdog> ran up the walkway>into the club> through the crowd> gave the hotdog to an fat woman>kissed her on the cheek> jumped up onto the stage(4ft leap)> wailing the fuckin licks on the guitar neck the whole time> !!!NEVER MISSED A GOD-DAMN BEAT!!! this better make top comment. can I get an AMEN!!???
You know what? Buddy is one step after god talkin about blues music, but anyway I'm a lil sad thinkin that in a few times he's gonna become the "old man" in the scene, after B. Just a lil sad, not too much.
I clicked on your vids and saw the pic my band uses for business cards and posters...lol Very cool pic "Smokestack Lightnin" should give the pic i'm talking about. away....see above video response for my band and sub if u like any tunes and I'll sub ya back....Peace& Blues
No one can sing like Buddy....He's unique in every way and finally got the recognition he deserved for so many years....or atleast real money....Thank "Clapton"....he knew it and did something about it.....Respect !!
I have listened to many relaxing songs in my life before, but there is nothing, absolutely nothing that quite calms my nerves like this relaxing masterpiece of the Blues!!!
Clapton and Guy came out with this song on CD's around the same time. Love both versions and put them both on a tape to play back-to-bac k once. I like the way Claption burns on guitar on this song a little more. Guy outsings him on the song. If I could either sing or play half as good as either, I'd be happy.
the older I get the more primitive sound I love, organic, natural, my ears get over run with digital synthesys. For me its like drinking something thats not quenching my thirst but is actually making me thirstier. Then someone hands me a glass of cold ice water, ahhhhh now dat good chall, thanks Old timers.
@22metzfan Not even him nor Stevie Ray Vaughan (who I think is better than Clapton, but that's my opinion) can have that passion, that fire, that force in their voice and their playing. Listen to both Buddy Guy and Clapton closely, compare them. You feel this vibration in your very soul ? THAT comes from Buddy Guy.
@OghmaticCraftAnimus Thank you!! I also agree that Stevie Ray Vaughan is better than Clapton. I'd go as far as to say he's my favorite guitarist of all time, which is part fact and part opinion.
@OghmaticCraftAnimus clapton had his fire when he was with cream. I still think 1968 crossroads is one of the greatest guitar solos ever! its hard to say SRV is better than Clapton or vice versa cuz they got diff styles of playing, but Texas Flood my fav song! anyway about BUDDY GUY, hes in his own class =D "cant touch this" was written about him... little known fact! haha. and once I heard buddy say F*ck SRV, cuz apparently he likes John L Hooker more! guess SVR was too Honky Tonk for him lol
Couldn't find that quote anywhere. Where did you find it? Stevie Ray Vaughn was great and I was lucky to see him 3 times in concert. Here is what Stevie Ray said about Buddy: Vaughan stated that, "Without Buddy Guy, there would be no Stevie Ray Vaughan."
didn't care for buddy in my younger blues years. But like fine wine, I really appreciate the taste after time. Clapton passed the torch to buddy a long time ago and I agree.
I was at a buddy guy and jimmy vaughn show in jersey around 98 with my brother. Buddy was ripping on stage then disappeared but kept playing. We looked and he came in between us and just kept ripping. Was had our arms around him while he was jamming. It was incredible.
@jtmenniti1 thats awesome..buddy is the man..interactive with the crowd ...buddy always throws great shows..that must have been a great moment of the show for you ..BLUES FOREVER ....right on!!!!
@hccoxster1 A friend and I saw him live, and he would go into this expression just before he came to an abrupt stop in the middle of a song. He'd then say to the audience, "You don't want to hear this song!" He did this several times.
I don't know what what going on in his head that night, but he was acting a bit off-kilter.
i so want to write something that conveys how i fell after listening to this yet i can do is replay it and just blot everything except pure joy from my mind
I'm always dug Buddy's guitar and, of course, enjoyed a few beers at his old bar when it was on Wabash but when he sings, Buddy sounds like he needs to run and take a dump.
buddy guy is a class act...1 time at his show there was a kid in a wheel chair who looked paralyzed from the waist down ...buddy went into the crowd and sat next to the kid..had the kid strum the guitar while he fretted the notes...the kid was wailing i saw the joy in that kids eyes..it was i sight to be seen...i felt so happy for that kid
hell yeah, and more than "only" his guitar playing, i fucking love the way he sings, for me it' s just exactly THE blues i want to listen to, really pure and so fucking strong, also amazing piano with, what else?really the best for me...
don't know about you, but it definitely makes me jealous! Truly a great bluesman, and very under-rated. One of the most soulful blues singers of all timw, and his guitar work speaks for itself.
his phrasing is impecable too cool for words i love it
