  • Shepard... You're dead...

    I got better

  • Fuck death. I came back.

  • I want this to play when I wake up in the morning...

  • I love that scene...

  • Finished my second ME playthrough last night...bring it on, #3!

  • @alexriderproductions played 3 in a row too, now I'm on my second ME2 in a row.

  • Mass Effect 1... such a great game....

    2-13-12 834pm

  • Jack Wall y u no make epic song longer?

  • funny how shepard survives and then he gets spaced on his very next mission

  • I made the mistake of playing Mass Effect 2 first..... this part didnt fool me XD

  • @A7XAnAngryKiwiA7X as did i. but being a massive bioware fan had me thinking that shepard realy died when i came to the ending in ME1. like you can die in the ending of ME2. Cheers

  • This is made even better by taking Liara - the lighting makes her face look all red and blotchy, like she had been crying.

  • Check out my rendition of Vigil from ME1!

  • such a fucking cliche moment, and yet so fucking awesome

  • Motherfucking awesome song...

  • Love you Shepard, Garrus, Wrex, and Tali...

  • I've always said that because of this scene that Commander Shepherd is the only person in history who is capable of limping heroically.

  • Shepard's dead at that particular moment would've been acceptable. We may have lost him but galaxy would have an example of altruism fighting for all life everywhere. That's acceptable. What would've not been acceptable was dear Liara not coming under the wreckage. Bioware, by the god that made me, I will cease to exist before I yield to a game narrative on such terms as in which you people mean to propose to not allow Liara T'Soni live a long and happy life.

  • @1vaultdweller dude she's probably already lived for 200 years! ;)

  • Anderson: Shepard! You survived you rascal!

Shepard: It takes more than one reaper to stop me.

    ME3: How about hundreds?

    Shepard: ಠ_ಠ

  • Gawd, this music has me brimming with nostalgia. It's so hard to believe Shepard's story will finally come to an end :(

Mass Effect is my favourite game ever

  • "same thing! Romanced Liara and all and seeing Anderson ask her "where's the Commander?"

same here!! :( it was fucking epic

  • first reaction after defeating saren and finding out i didn't die- YES!!! WWWWWWWWOOOO and about 5 minutes of feeling good... i love this game so much

  • Saren Arterius disliked this...

  • The music just get's better and better with each game, people will be bleeding at the ears because of the sheer awesomeness halfway through ME3.

  • @TheHowlingDark for fucks sakes man, I've just seen a god damn BETA and already my ears were nearly overwhelmed by the sheer RAW awesome. Particularly the scene where shepard has to leave Earth to warn the rest of the galaxy.

Mark my words bro' ME3 is gonna set a before/after in videogaming industries.

  • @Shakduhn

    One can only hope.

Imagine it, the Mass Effect Trilogy, the new standard for quality that games would be held to. I would be proud to pay full price for a game.

  • i wonder if shepard will die at the end of ME3 :P

  • @GridAlienProduction s/he was able to die in ME2, and the devs said that depending on your choices and your level of preparation on ME3 it WILL be possible for shepard to die (permanently this time) again, as well as for the reapers to achieve full victory, or partial victory.

The only way to truly defeat the reapers is either being prepared via playing the Co-op game, or by achieving 100% game completion before the final mission.

  • I knew Shepherd didn't die as I played ME2 first.

And I still teared up when I heard this, combined with the scene.

  • This is why i love games, just listening to this song still gives me shivers. That was the defining moment in mass effect, atleast to me, you just fought and watched that epic battle and you then think shephards dead, to seeing him come out alive. Oh man, games at its best.

  • this music should be after war is over i

  • Shepards rescue scene always seemed a bit melodramatic to me. I suppose the fact that I knew there was a continuation kind of ruined it for me; it was too damn predictable that he would climb up and be all "I'm a baws". Definately not my favorite part of the game, the soundtrack is cool though.

  • @Joey5537 Yeah, my friends who bought the game on christmas sale just now, were like "why people say the scene is awesome, i mean, we all know shepard would survive.?" and i who bought it when it came out (huge bioware fanboy) was like "You knew shepard would survive, i didnt, thats what makes the scene so awesome.)

  • That feeling of accomplishment and triumph when Shepard rose from the wreckage. Shepard walking away like a boss from the council to continue fighting the Reapers.

    GODDAMN EPIC

  • gordon freeman is loser compare commander shepard

  • saren dislike this

  • @190shepard he'll probably get a geth to make an account and dislike it too xD

  • Comment removed

  • I had Wrex as the squad die who shakes their head when Anderson asks about Shepard....he looked so saaaaaad :( it breaks my heart to see a krogan cry :(

  • should be played at the end of ME3 (If you beat the reapers of course, if you fail the game and the reapers win (Yes, that can actualy happen if you do THAT bad) then of course they wouldn't have this play)

  • that piano man... gets me everytime... and its really the only thing that gets me

  • Shepherd lives in another dimension.

  • This is easily the strongest scene of Mass Effect

  • Comment removed

  • They need to play this song at the end of mass effect 3.

  • The one dislike was soveriegn.

  • Tali'Zorah is the only character in my save from ME2 that hasn't survived the suicide mission.

Then i came to a thought, why can't i dock in The Migrant Fleet to report to the Admiralty board that she died a hero? Maybe we will be able to use the line "Tali would have wanted this" if we ever enlist the help of the quarians in ME3.

  • Man, I remember My playthrough. Liara as romance. Had her and Wrex on last mission. Their faces made me shed a tear :'(

  • @kyhle111 Dude, same thing! Romanced Liara and all and seeing Anderson ask her "where's the Commander?" and her defeated shake of the head made me honestly think that Shepad had died. And Wrex! A Krogan so old that he has warts older than Shepard looking at a loss because his Krantt was gone and then up comes Shepard from the Wreckage like a Badass out of Hell with the cheesiest fucking grin on his face with this music blaring triumph over Sovereign! Never felt so elated because of a video game!

  • @SinDawg030 Had to wipe a tear from my face

  • @Grivahri I aim to please! I'd offer you a tissue but the Internet can't do that yet so I'll do the paragon interrupt for a pat on the back :D

  • @SinDawg030 for that reply you deserve a medal! I felt exactly the same!

  • @Quoxah If Bioware puts an absolutely unavoidable LI death then I will explode with the pure unrestrained power of RRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGEEEEEE!!!!!!

  • @SinDawg030 ......YOO STOLE MAH SAVE!!!! >:O

  • @Giok8 SHIT! I'VE BEEN DISCOVERED!!!!11!!1!!111!

  • @SinDawg030 Mass Effect 2's ending(s) gave a much deeper effect. But, me1 still ended nicely (Although I wish it had alternates like ME2)

  • @epikphaylle errm? "Save the Council"/"Let the Council die"? Those are alternate endings.

  • @SinDawg030 Sovereign still gets blown to bits..!

  • @epikphaylle the choice at the end of ME1 determines wether or not things like anit-human race riots happen on the Citadel. That choice may well determine wether or not the Council races will help Earth in ME3. I'd say that is pretty deep. If Sovereign didn't get blown the fuck up then we wouldn't have ME2 and ME3 because the Reapers would have won.

  • @SinDawg030 Uhuh. ME2 Shep can die. And you cant import your savegame if he does. THATS the kind of alternate ending I was referring to.

  • @epikphaylle you want a reaper to not get destroyed?...

  • @Knightfull no, but I definitely love to see that kind of variation. Mass Effect 2 did a wonderful job of it, and I wouldn't mind having an option to make all the wrong decisions and the reapers win.

  • @epikphaylle it will be available in ME3 as they say

  • @Knightfull yup! I can't wait for ME3

  • @SinDawg030 Nuff said man. Same thing for me, except I had Garrus in my party instead of Wrex, not that it changes anything. Good to see that I'm not the only one sucked up in the Mass Effect universe so immensely that you feel apart of it.

  • @SinDawg030 what about some of the speeches in ME2 or this one or the spectre initiation

  • @guaranic those too! Can't wait to see what Shepard has in store for ME3!

  • Mass effect 2 or mass effect (shitty multyplayer 3) will never be able to match this moment....... ever!

  • @jimbobfreddiewilson1 I don't think Mass effect 3 will have shitty multiplayer, Its Co-op and i think that's the best form of multiplayer. Since some of my friends are Mass effect mad aswel we can take the multiplayer seriously since even multiplayer can change a certain path in ME3 story.

So im keeping optimistic about this and i believe that the multiplayer side of it is like a 'behind the scenes' sort of thing, you know, multiplayer is happening at the same time as the main story. who knows.

  • @HL5IHarrier Ok maybe it won't be shit, but my point still stands, this song is from the greatest scene in gaming history!

  • @jimbobfreddiewilson1 I would phrase that another way - this has probably been the best truly happy/victorious moment in the series so far. What with being reunited with Joker in ME2 but under the pressure to find the collectors and find out the Reapers' plans. Reunion with the Virmire survivor - you know how that went. Successfully stopping the collectors - the real threat is still out there. Finally, the Reapers 'wake' in dark space. All great moments. But they aren't purely joyous.

  • 1:41 Shepard you smiling son of a bitch!!

  • I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favorite fake death on the Citadel.

  • Last bit of this song, why didnt they keep this theme consistent into mass effect 2 as well?

  • whats the msuc where after kaidne dies

  • Ich versuche ja wirklich nicht mich zu sehr mit PC Spielen zu identifizieren, aber nach der Szene fühlte ich mich 3 Meter größer.

  • @MrVelyx It's so nice we all speak English on the internet isn't it.(on international pages).

That way everyone understands what the other guy is saying!

  • @enterprise0709 everyone but me. I am sorry sometimes my wish to say something is bigger than my language abilitys...

  • @MrVelyx I can understand that. And respect that. However, if i want to say something in English that is beyond my foreigners English vocabulary I have this little thingy called Google translate to help me out

(*NOTE* this message was brought to you in part by Google translate)

  • @MrVelyx Ow and btw i used google translate to translate what you said before and i totally agree ;)

  • @enterprise0709 ok so it is a usual effect by seeing this scene. Cool.

  • @MrVelyx Uhhh, whatever you said

  • hmm?

  • at first i was like: WHAT!?! YOU ARE JOKING!! YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!! but then Shepard appeared a I was like Phew... (sigh of relief)

  • I almost cried, but i never cry at games, guess im just a bad gamer

  • @Gmrbro no you are not, You just experienced one of those rare situations in which a game has a compelling storyline, and an absolute epic ending as a climax to that story. . And in those cases that little thing known as emotions may or may not kick in.

  • Anderson: "Where's the commander? Where's Shepard?"

    *FemShep appears from the wreckage*

    Anderson: "Oh, there she is!"

  • Mass effect, for me the best sci-fi game ive ever played... then Mass effect 2 came and again hit the bar for one of the best sci-fi's ever. The combination of the music, story, characters and the build up to the epic ending make ME a legendary series in my eyes, I just hope that Bioware will not let us down with ME3...

  • Oh god!!! Man-tears!!! :'(

  • Dude when I heard this music and saw my Shepard leap from the back round I had the biggest and most stupid looking smile on my face... This is moving stuff right here.

  • No one kills Shepard!

  • The best end that I remember in many years...Simply magnificent.

  • OMG!!! If you include Shepard's romantic interest on the final levels, man, the music has more impact! i was tearing up!!!

  • @Raintalon89 I cried hard, when I saw how sad Kaidan was. ;~;

  • I hope the ME3 story will be as epic as ME1 story :)

  • Commander Shepard is the best

  • This song should be played on the mass effect 3 menu

  • 1 person did not come out of the wreckage

  • after packing my xbox games and mags for a move i found a Game Informer an issue with mass effect 3 i don't know why but now i feel like the whole world better look out

  • Dang tearworks. D:

  • This music is what plays when somebody looks up Crowning Music of Awesome on TVtropes.

  • mass effect is not just a game..it's a life story

  • @sakura800 right, serious^^

  • You think Shepard's gonna die with THIS playing? This is the musical way of saying, "I just won, fully and completely."

  • @devindenman I think he will die with THIS playing, when all reapers except harbinger are destroyed and shepard does a kamikaze rush towards him,

  • I wonder if it'll be made into a reprise for ME3's Paragon rout.

  • A like how people say that shepard saved the galaxy, and yet it was Joker who killed soverign...

  • @STRING3R Joker wouldn't have a chance for that shot if Shepard didn't kill Saren, making Sovereign vulnerable for a few minutes. Sovereign would keep destroying alliance ships and would eventually succeed in summoning the Reaper fleet using the citadel relay. Bottom line is, Shepard saved the galaxy by defeating Saren and with it, stunning Sovereign's consciousness.

  • @kinklestar Damn straight!

  • @STRING3R

why did joker`s shot kill sovereign when most of the fleet was shooting at him non-stop not even leaving a dent?

could it be related to shepard killing saren who was controlled by soverign, stunning him allowing joker to take the killing shot? nah, lets just assume everyone is stupid but you. i like how you think

  • Sovereign disliked this video.

  • I had this played at my funeral...

    I came back...

  • @MaxONEFIVENINETWO Youtube comment of the year!

  • This song makes me cry everytime. Shepard is a fuckin' hero ! :' )

  • Even though Mass Effect blew my expectations away, I didn't slate this game to have much emotional significance...until this music played and Shepard leaps out, everyone's looking up at him and wow...it drove me to mantears.

  • @LordRyan100 Yeaaaaaaaaaaaah! Best game in history

  • I saw Garrus's face when he thought FemShep died..... :(

    EPIC GAME!

  • At first I was like Shepard died :'( then I was like WE WON FUCK YEA :D

  • i think they are putting this song back in mass effect 3 :)

  • @LordRyan100 HELL yes!

  • @LordRyan100 THEY BETTER DO!!!

  • People always tell us gamers not to think of game characters as real people. That's not true. If the character has a strong story and crazy fandom, they really do exist. They may not exist here, but they exist in their own universe, in the games, the fiction, and of course, our hearts. Long live Commander Shepard.

  • @GIRLIKESTACOS

Some "imaginary" people influence your life more than many "real" ones...

And believe it or not, I heard this awesome line in South Park, and I can say it's 100% true...

  • @GIRLIKESTACOS hell yeah :)

  • @GIRLIKESTACOS The Mass Effect games are so amazing that I sometimes found myself forgetting that I was playing a game. Truly incredible.

As for this soundtrack and the scene it accompanies, I cheer every time when Shepherd limps out of the wreckage with that shit-eating grin on his face.

  • When Shepard dies, he gets better.

  • I am really going to miss Jack Wall and Sam Hulick :(

  • at first i was like: :( he died :( and then i was like: HELL YEAH!!!!

  • @bagrCZ Shepard can't die... Like Garrus said the Collectors tried to kill him and all it did was piss him off....

+ Well he was rebuild by Cerberus

  • In ME1 you have the opportunity to go to our galaxy and see Earth. I tried to land on it but a message popped up and said, "Assuming control of this Xbox." Then everything went dark and I got scared.

Also, my favorite song from ME1!

  • @InfiniteKingpin wtf? are you serious?

  • @TwilightMan Lol no. It's a ME2 joke.

  • ;_;

  • They should play this song in a scene for mass effect 3. At least for one such as if commander shepard going to Earth with the hugest fleet of ships of every species that has ever been seen and are just about to wipe out the reapers. I would love to see something like that.

  • @SarahBearX same ! MEGA nostagic :D

  • Holy shit. This scene was so epic. I could accept Shepard dying after defeating Sovereign. It just kinda felt 'right.' Shepard's teammates sad at the loss of an amazing soldier. But oh gods. When there's that momentary clip of him jumping down and Shepard comes running out from the rubble and grins as Anderson and your teammates are in happy disbelief, music coming to a crescendo and all. Had to hold back man-tears ;_;

  • @JediNg135

My thoughts exactly. I would have been happy if he disappeared. That would have actually made the entire first part of Mass Effect 2 utterly pointless. But to see Shepard climb up and come out strong as ever? Hell yeah!

  • @JediNg135 or "her" jumping down. I always play Shepard as a female because its more awsome if a girl saves the galaxy instead of a man

  • @JediNg135 I couldn't hold them back :,)

  • @JediNg135 I cheer every time I see it. And I've probably seen it 30 times.

  • The suspense.... You emerge from the wreckage. EPIC.

  • Did he died?

  • No game has a story or soundtrack as Mass Effects (and 2)

  • This is my all-time favorite piece. I've listened to it for years, and it never fails to give me the chills. I listen to it every morning. Love it so much.

  • Yeah, respct for guy who wrote Requiem song, but they shouldn't change composers. IMHO this is just wrong.

  • @CerebralHunter

Agreed. Though to be fair, Jack Wall apparently quit on his own, so even if they didn't hire the new guy, they still wouldn't have the guy who composed this song, or The Suicide Mission (IMO best song in the second game).

  • @Awesomeuserdude The new guy you talk of is Clint Mansell. I think he'll definitely pull something off as epic as something along these lines.

  • @Awesomeuserdude Yeah, I just hope Clint Mansell can keep up. If he uses anything even remotely similar to Lux Aeterna Im going to rape his face, overused as hell.

  • @esideras I second that.

  • Im getting goosebumps...

  • MEGA LOL

  • Holy Shit!!!

Clint Mansell will compose the soundtrack for Mass Effect 3. The man who did the soundtrack for Requiem for a Dream.

  • @FettoDegen I know, I'm fucking pissed off.

  • Saren disliked this.

  • This always reminds me of a war scene where everything starts out sullen and everything is lost hope, but everything turns out better than expected :>

  • This better play at the end of me3.

  • @jimbobfreddiewilson1 This or Vigil.

  • @Iteachu2beninja How about both?...... actually no, that would never work, it would be far too amazing and implode my computer through sheer amounts of awesome.

  • Where's the commander?

  • Turian Council Member says: I like everything about this but yet i would find a way to hate it
