  • Thanks! One of the top answers in google when I was searching for lighting kits.

Happy I watched this before I bought anything :)

  • where can I get replacement bulbs for the TT 900w halogen kit?

300w halogen blubs? 32k? anyone know?

  • nice video

  • tungsten...? guess you don't consider those lights, lol

  • ive been thinking of buying the Cool Flo kit for my videos all i do is comedy sketch and vlog/reviews will that be good ???, would you be able to reply in a inbox message please

  • the fan cools it when it gets hot. oh is that what fan cooled means? HAHA

  • im doing a bathroom scene, are the fluorescent lights in the bathroom the same as the cfl bulbs the same? I so I don't have much money for a complete setup. whats the best lighting option? and whats the watts for the indoor lights?

  • @candicelews No, unfortunately, the lights in your bathroom are most likely not the same as professional lights. They could burn at a different color temperature. You can always try shooting with just your bathroom lights to see if that will work, but I wouldn't recommend mixing and matching your bathroom lights with the CF bulbs.

  • Hello i have a clothing brand and i do videos and photography but what i really want it so i can take really clear pictures with people in my clothing?

what type of lights do i need?

  • Do all of these lights need outlets to plug into because i was looking for more of a portable wireless light kit do you know if they have any of these lights i would really like to know.

  • Thank you for providing this information, I think I will go get a cool glass of water myself

    :)

  • Thank you for the information...if you have time to answer this question it would be much appreciated....what about lighting for a very small subject (animals). The vids I am doing are going to be the same over and over. Please see my channel for example. Thank you very much!

  • @thepaintingferrets I think soft lighting would be a good way to go for you. One or two fluorescent lights should probably do the trick. Just try not to blow out your animals with too much light. (Fluorescent lights also don't heat up, so your animals will remain comfortable and not want to run away from the glow of hotter lights.)

  • @tubetape Thank you for replying. I ended up going with two Halogen work lamps (cheapy route). They do the job I guess. If I ever need to upgrade I'll look you guys up.

  • @thepaintingferrets My pleasure. I hope the lights work out for you - and all your animals too, of course.

  • @tubetape Thank you for replying. I ended up going with two Halogen work lamps (cheapy route). They do the job I guess. If I ever need to upgrade I'll look you guys up.

  • instant subscribe! good information..

  • Thank you for the support! Please comment & sube my channel

  • DO you find people can make their own light kits that are comparable in quality of the more high end stuff at a better price ?

  • @MrAshtonRenae It is possible to have home-made lighting kits. Usually they are not comparable to high end lighting, however they can get the job done, depending on what you are shooting.

  • all I could think of is doing lighting to make a video about lighting..

  • Can someone please tell me if a Britek as-27 is compatible with a canon? If it is how do you connect the strobes to the camera?

    Please help!

  • I need to light someone at a webcam doing business conferences, with a painted wall or green screen behind him. My idea (from what's on tubetape.com) is to use a softbox for the key light, umbrella for fill, and another umbrella for back light, all using 300w fluorescents. Is this a good idea or bad?

  • @tunghoy I might try using two softboxes on the backdrop and then light your subject separately with two (or maybe three) lights, either softboxes or umbrellas. Your original idea might work fine, I am just concerned that you may need more light than normal because you are using a webcam. They traditionally do not have that great of a picture, so you may have to do some over-compensating with the light setup

  • thx u

  • zeg niet dat jij geen site van green screen hebt

  • A company that specializes in affordable and top of the line LED lighting is Intellytech who was awesome to work with. Check out this website, wwwDOT it-photovideo DOTcom. You can also google them, "Intellytech." They sell lights just like Litepanels but are so much less expensive and are actually brighter!!! They have extremely accurate color temperatures and are very lightweight and durable. Have bought over 20 lights from them. Each time I had them on my doorstep 3 days after I paid.

  • cool video

  • thanks for the video -- tone down or change the music in future -- it was a little annoying.

  • Muah... thank you for the help!

  • So about how loud are the fans when picked up as audio? Im super low budget right now so i cant get all the fancy video lighting yet.

  • You look like the guy from Travis.

  • The music is so irritating!

  • They have QL-2000 & 3000 w sets? I do Portraits, family, Cheer, school etc.. what watt should i get? should i get a barndoor and a boom?

    Thanks your vids are awesome!

    Maggie

  • Thanks.. sooo much.,.. God vbless u

  • Do I have to have a hair light?

  • @evilbunnyreviews No, you don't have to. With a standard 3 point light set up, a hair light is used because it makes for a visually interesting and dynamic shot. It all depends on what you have to work with and what look you are going for.

  • I make small dance videos and iam planning to make a concept movie....so like i have set up a green screen in my room and i just want 2 capture some short footages but the lights in my room is dim so im looking for something that can lightup the object on the green screen nd it has to be portable nd small so that it can be kept in my cupboard......plzzzzzz help me with this thing nd give me a suggestion...i would rly appreciate ur help thank u....

  • @rkdancer1 I would go for the EZ softboxes. Look on our site Tubetape.com. You can go with two EZ softboxes in a small room and that will be more than enough light. They are easy to put together and break down for good storage.

  • Epic overview, thanks for the information...I learned a lot and I feel much more comfortable, knowing the pros and cons of light kits. Very much appreciated.

  • Hey Mark :) .. tell me !! .. The cool-flo lights, can I use any kind of umbrella ? I mean I am not filming in HD ..but I want better light ... So I was just wondering if I could have the same result using 4 bulbs like yourse and a simple umbrella ...

  • great stuff but you should speak to us about lights

  • @thlampcompanybaldoc We will have an updated video similar to this coming soon.

  • Do you prefer the MX 3 light system over the Britek 3 light system?...

  • @ashare06 You will get more wattage with our MX 3 light kit than with Britek. It all depends on how large of an area you are shooting and how much coverage you need.

  • what kit can i use to record me on video webcam?? basically i sit in front of a camera and talk. i want the background to be pure white and my face to be nicely lit with no shadows. there MUST be something nice and portable or small enough for this setup.

  • @scir91 We have a few different combo kits to choose from on our main site, if you would like to browse. You will want to have at least two lights and a background screen. Try and choose softboxes with diffuser panels in order to do away with harsh shadows.

  • wow great info.. Thanks!

  • What about fresnel led??

  • Good video, although you sound kinda out of breath ha

  • uploaded on my birthday! :D

  • Great video, exactly what I was looking for. Thanx for the upload!!!

  • Great info thx...

  • Do u guys do international shipping?

  • @ryolo132 We ship worldwide via FedEx. We can give you an quote for shipping if you email our sales team: sales@tubetape.com. They will be happy to assist you.

  • Very informative video! Would you recommend a soft box for makeup tutorials on you tube?

  • @MakeupbySandie Absolutely. A softbox will help spread a nice even light on your subject to best showcase the makeup job.

  • I don't really care about how professional it looks, I'm a little more concerned with the results. I really wish you had showed the results provided by every kit, not just the equipment itself, which isn't all that helpful IMO

  • I have the work light, It works pretty good but I can kinda see the outline of green on my object. So i was thinking about buying A Ql 100 Watt Light head and a soft box. Would it be good to have both lights or would that ruin it?

  • @RichiePatrick While both are halogen lights so they could work together, the work lamp is very strong direct light & the QL is variable diffused light. If you do it right it can work, but if not you risk some serious hot spots. We'd suggest just sticking with a 3 point QL lighting system. Hope that helps.

  • Wait!!!!! dose he work for TubeTape

  • I got a question. I want start doing portraits. I don't have a studio, but i'm thinking of being a mobile photographer..as in I'll go to a customer's house with my equipment. What kit do you recommend and do you know of a good place to buy it. Thanks.

  • Very informative. Thanks.

  • You need to get a better camera or better editing equipment cos the quality of this video is not very good

  • hi are softbox kits florescent?

  • Great video!! Thanks for the upload.

  • in Homedepot this light is realy cheap 1300W is only $65

  • rotobrushing is here, it's the end of greenscreening, sorry guys

  • Hey there tubetape, I'm thinking of purchasing a Westcott ulite kit, and I'm wondering if you have a better set to recommend for the same money. I'm trying to set up a studio as cheaply as possible. THANKS!

  • Good tips but shit dude, that music will be stuck in my head for years

  • Where in the studio lighting for photography video as promised? I can't find it.... :(. Really enjoyed this one

  • Any suggestions for a lighting kit under $100? Any more expensive then that is a bit too expensive for me at the moment :0

  • great video! thanks

  • nice hat!

  • Im buying from tubetape a complete green screen kit, but whats the difference between a 110v and a 220v? which one should I get? Thanks

  • @anaranjadoX375 Great question. 110v is for the US & 220v is for some areas outside of the US - for a complete explanation check out: tubetape.net/servlet/the-template/Voltage/Page

  • @anaranjadoX375

Depends on the area where you live.

In US 110V is used, in Europe is 220/230V.

    Where are you from?

  • this was an excellent and very informative video....

  • Would be better without the crappy music.

  • Is there any particular lighting system you would suggest for studio lighting for photography?

  • can i use orange instead of a green screen or a blue screen

  • Nice professional video, however, the drums in the background are a bit distracting.

Thanks for the useful introduction to lighting.

  • thank you!

  • what type of light do you recommend for lighting an indoor scene for a music video?

  • If the effect is noticeable as it is in this video, then whats the point? U get what u pay for. Tech gets better by the second so if you buy cheap you just threw away 40% to 60 % of your money to get half the quality & more hassle. Meantime the person that bought quality gets more use out of purchase for longer period with professional quality. If your on a budget look into EBY 300/600 T5 H.O. florescent fixt. by LA Lighting, many color temps available. Best for studio buy can be made portable.

  • thanks for this video it was really helpful! Ciao ;)

  • Good video but the music is mixed way too high and becomes incredibly annoying.

  • Thanks soo much.. Im starting up my own biz and this is exactly what I was looking for.. Great info... Thanks u earned a subscriber! :)

  • Whats the Light @ 4:37 please

  • 4:35 what was that ??light

  • I'm used to doing on location fashion shoots and have never figured out how to manipulate and compare studio light. This video has explained everything very well. Great guide!

  • Thanks for the video, but I've got an idea to share because the resulting picture and video are more important than the light itself, right? Instead of showing the lights, which won't be seen in the videos we make, shouldn't you show the subject. For instance, "This is Mark with a halogen pointed at him... This is Mark with a softbox on either side." Etc... Please share what type of lighting you were using to make this video! Maybe I just haven't found the proper tutorial yet.

  • @guitarmaxchris Great suggestion. We're currently putting together a more current version of this video, so we may be able to put your ideas to good use. Thanks! If you haven't already subscribed, be sure to so you'll get notified when the new vid comes out. Cheers!

  • Yes - Valuable, Appreciated. Is Tungsten the same as Halogen?

  • @mbsivan Basically tungsten is referring to the filament within the halogen lamp. Glad you found the video helpful :)

  • Thanks a lot man, you know your stuff.

  • Excellent video, great teaching, never condescending (important in an industry with all that competition), and helpful!

  • i bought some haloge quartz lights but when i set toward the green screen it lights up the greenscreen but leaving circle spot lights on the screen, hope you understand what i mean, thanks

  • @petenicezz You're experiencing what's called a "hot spot". Try angling the light so that it's not pointing directly at the screen, move the light back away from the screen a bit or for best results use diffused lighting (soft box or umbrella). Hope this helps.

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video, I learned a lot from it. Please keep them coming!

  • @chuda99 This vid is about a year old now, so we're going to be putting together a new version soon. Be sure to subscribe to get an update when it comes out!

  • @tubetape I'm already subscribed :) but thanks for the update, I'll be in the look out for the new vids!

  • I got the QL1000 a few months ago. THEY SUCKS... they make way to much noise.. and they charge you way to much for it.. I got a set of 3.. i thought it was a good deal.. BUt it did not come with reflector cup or any barndoors.. i paid over 200+ for it.. which is a rip off...

I have a QL1000 for sale.. if any one is interested pls email me. Thanks

  • @farzan123 Oh no! Have you contacted us directly yet? I'm sure we can find you something else if the QL's not working out for you. 1-866-485-7570

  • thanks bro'

  • Ql1000's are noisy as hell. I bought these and was very disappointed with the noise factor. Useless for any kind of interview set up. Sorry Tubetape.

  • Do they sell heat sink's for the QL 1000?

  • halogen-quartz bulbs ARE incandescent bulbs, incandescent just means that it's a filament structure (a thin filament of metal encased in an inert gas so that it won't ignite when heated enough that it incandesces). The only thing that makes Halogen bulbs so different is the materials used; tungsten filament, halogen gas, and a quartz-glass bulb, which means it can go MUCH hotter (thus brighter, thus prettier) than conventional incandescent bulbs.

  • Thanks!

You forgot the old "Tomas" lights.

    they are white, and strong.

the big ones are VERY HOT bulbs... 1500W

but you can get small portable 150W white light.

    but Thank s anyway.

  • Why is he so coy about who makes the light products he is discussing?

  • No shit... light is essential for lighting things... you learn something new every day.

  • I just about pissed myself reading this

  • @ZanderMander hehehe :)))

  • man.... u look and act like Hollywood Star in 70s....

    but thats cool man.....

    Thanks anyways...

  • Is it safe plugging these into a wall? Or would you need a generator or battery pack of some sort... thank you!

  • OK so all this lighting kit ive seen on you tube no one has come up with a good portable battery powered lighting system that will NOT cost a fortune like the LED light panels there must be a pro-sumer alternative for night field use,and why does nobody film in the dark other than Pro production companys? it cant be that hard to do???

  • extension cords and generators, generators are nice but can be noisy and expensive. you also may be able to power a few low wattage lights from a car

  • lucky13studios

thanks mate i have just built a battery powered 42W CFL works ok

  • Cool video but I still dont understand why I should choose umbrella or lightbox setup...

  • I agree. I've watched a half-dozen videos and they all seem to be fluff. I too want to know: UMBRELLA OR SOFT BOX!?

  • both.. umbrella gives a broad coverage of light and a soft box can contain an aim the light to one specific spot.. i say both

  • Hey just watched a video prophotolife, and i am a true beginner. He used a soft box that used a replaceable front diffuser I guess they yellow over time it also had an inner removable diffuser to further soften light. What I really liked was a white inner surface that could be removed to expose a silver that can be flipped over to gold to warm an image now if i could just find one. Cheers m8

  • Thanks. I ended up buying a kit of eBay (three lights, three umbrellas, three stands, and a large green screen with stands all for about $300). I tell you, will all the fluffy videos on YouTube, someone could make a lot of money if they would stop being vague and start selling nice kits. No offense to the guy who made this video, but it's all sizzle and little steak.

  • All sizzle little steak, that sums up a lot of youtube videos lol! You wanna know the number one question on youtube? Hey what's the name of that song. LMAO!

  • you really shouldn't be yellowing (burning out) your boxes. Generally the diffusion panel is removable so that you can swap out different grades of material and use different qualities of diffusion.

  • music is way too loud. way to repetitive. ruins the whole thing.

  • Should I go with QL 1000 or Cool Flo for my first light kit?

  • lighting is everything

  • Comment removed

  • that intro was the gayness.

  • Cool video! Thank you so much for these invaluable tips! I'd go for light kits, using Full Spectrum light's like Viva-Lite, Ott-lite (Color temp=5500K) which gives you true colors like Natural Daylight, although it's a bit expensive. Energy consumed while using these lights are much less. So it could be a greener choice, considering that these lamps lasts much longer than incandescent lamps.

  • Yeah that's right, Viva-Lite lamps are great for photography. It's color rendering index is near 100, and you get the pictures as good as you've shot with natural daylight.

  • Would a one buld umbrella light be a good step for some one just starting to get together a light kit? I'm 14 and don't have much money to spend

  • im in exactly the same boat as you

  • gona need a ship soon. so am i

  • An amateur such as yourself can just go to a hardware store and pick up some incandescent clip lights (or any other lights at the store)--they'll be cheap but they work and get the job done for home video projects.

  • Thanks for the great content!

I'm looking at upgrading from my Halogen Flood Lights...

And it is great to know that I need to get air-cooled not fan cooled as I'm going to be using it for video recordings.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

  • Lol 3:40, "unbrellas"

  • Video is hanging at 1:45 for me.

  • Thanks for clarifying the fact that hot lights, motion picture type lights can be used for digital photography as well, much more controllable than strobes, despite the heat.

  • Wow

    You are a freakin' genious

  • oh my god, he was standing in front of a green screen OF A GREEN SCREEN!

  • yea, so. I've got one in my basement

  • no he means he was standing in front of a green screen, and when it was edited he got a picture of a green screen.

  • ohhhh. he keyed out the green to another picture of a green screen

  • It's kind of funny.

  • How is not looking professional a con? Lights don't come out on camera, hence there is no point to how they look.

  • Isnt he talking about how the photos look? huh...

  • he's talking about for impressing your clients, when it comes down to it its half business in the art world.

  • most peopel dont realise this key fact!

  • If you look non-professional people treat you as non-professional.

  • if people aren`t willing to pay for a professional, would not be surprising if the output is not very professional.

  • some people are willing but cant afford it.

  • is that greenscreen behind you from tubetape?

  • Thanks for all the info....Tubetape, you rock!!!!!!!

  • ..my videos sucked until I met Mark!

  • Interesting video covering the basics of lighting. Useful for someone such as myself who doesn't know that much about lighting.

  • Big Help...didn't realize what a difference there is in lighting.

  • Very informative. There's so many lights out there! This was a big help!

  • Thank you! This helped me out a lot!

  • Hey tubetape, I'm thinking of buying one of your cool flo lights, I saw one listed on your site for only 59$, You guys are definitely the cheapest chromakey/lighting/software producers ont he net!

  • Good information...People don't realize just how important lighting is

  • OMG I need me some lighting!

  • Loving the Apsolon...always so much good info.

  • Very helpful..Thanks!
