Mabuhay ka, Ron!!! U know, it's so heartening to know that u r embracing our culture.. u r more Filipino than our kababayans who are ashamed of their culture.Others even don't try to speak the language anymore. God bless...thanks for loving our culture.
Hi there! Thanks for posting your experiences here in the Philippines. Nice knowing you are thoroughly enjoying our delicacies...I was just hoping to find a HALO-HALO entree in YouTube to show my friend from Illinois and a friend in the Netherlands...and am glad to have seen your site showcasing Filipino food! Thank you for enjoying our food ! God bless! You take care!
you're such a nice guy! i can't wait to go back to the philippines this june 2008. i really like your comments about our country. if ever you'll visit again, i'l join you to the nicest place in manila. i'l prepare my best adobo for you.
you miss one of my favorite filipino when i am in grade school i buy instant cook food in the street for only 5 pesos in 1991, im in love with that food coz it is the delicacies of luzon and my parents are in visayas, who live in manila when i grow up i look at these food in mall at GOLDILOCKS and it is finally called LAING it is a gabby leaves cut with gata and pork it is spicy.........when you eat that you will in love with that food
I was age 10-12 at the time&I grew to love some of the acquired tastes. The list is too long to mention but I can say that to this day, I never took a liking to bittermelon(ampalaya), balut, and paksiw(fish stew in a vinegar&gingerroot broth.I did enjoy sour, unripe mangos dipped in salty shrimp paste(bagoong)- although it took me awhile reconsider stinky shrimp paste.
I know what you mean about some of that. I've done balut, which wasn't as sensational as I presumed (needed some hot sauce). I don't like shrimp at all. You're so right about ampalaya. I don't like it unless there's something about the dish to counter the bitterness. Thanks for commenting.
I was there as a child 1988-1990.I remember sampling all the exotic foods that my native cousins introduced me to. We would hop jeepneys&tricycles all afternoon&buy food from street vendors.
I'd love to share more about food here in my place (Philippines) that you might have encountered before or not: Sinigang, puto & kutsinta, bibingka, pansit, sapin-sapin, dinuguan, kaldereta, mechado, litson(pork), talaba & tahong(seafood), escabeche, nilaga
next time if you gonna make youre own sisig dont forget to add some chicken liver deep fried it & chop it up. mix it with the meat. then with freshly squeez lemon.

some filipinos never try to speak tagalog cause they think that philippines is a stupid country.
some people say PHILIPPINES IS A LAND OF TALENTED PEOPLES-IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A TALENT THEN GO TO PHILIPPINES.
no way, philippines has it's own natures view which is really beautiful. mybigbearron,i'm glad you like my country.

do people have high cholesterol in the philippines? the foods sound oily!
Garethtkd 4 years ago
I dunno! I have seen many old timers there, though.
mybigbearron 4 years ago
we filipinos do like a lot of fried foods but we're actually quite health-conscious nowadays so the no-cholesterol oils etc. are often used. ;)
