Does Dragon's Lair count as an FMV game? That and Space Ace are two of my favorite games of all time (probably because I'm a big fan of Don Bluth), but it seems that no one today has heard of them much less played them and that's a shame. Dirk needs more love.

People who say the Mega CD/Sega CD is crap know nothing about this system.Yes,sadly there are many shitty FMV games,but there are also many really good titles such as Sonic CD,SoulStar,Snatcher,Lunar 1+2,Earthworm Jim Special Edition,Pitfall etc. And some of this games really demonstrates what the hardware was capable of.IMO it´s a nice addition to your Mega Drive/Genesis.
The main CPU is the same, yes, but it is clocked significantly higher, almost twice as fast as the Genesis. I don't know where you're getting the idea that the graphics and sound chip are the same. For one, the Sega-CD can do scaling and rotation of both sprites and backgrounds natively. The audio chip provides 8 sound channels and was sample based. The big flaw was that it did nothing to enhance the pitiful color palette/display of the Genesis.

They added hardware scaling, rotation, video capabilities, and a second CPU that ran about 50% faster in addition to CD-quality sound. Except for colours, it had more features than the SNES did. That is a lot more than just CD-quality sound!

Either get a new mic or talk a little further away from the one you have, there's a ton of popping sounds during the video. Really liked it otherwise, I have 2 Sega CDs, a top loader and an original one.

I liked Sonic CD and Eternal Champions. I bought tons of games though and enjoyed them all. Sewer Shark was a decent title that came with the system. There weren't any games that did anything close sound and video wise at the time so it was nice you could just add it to your existing Genesis and use the same controllers and stuff.
It's cool to hear about people still having all their old Sega systems. I still have my Genesis, Mega Drive, Sega CD, Mega CD, Nomad, Saturn, and Dreamcast and lots of US and Japanese games for them.

Yep! There was pretty much no way to copy or download and burn CD's when the Sega Mega CD was released, so there's no real encription on the system. You can even change the region of the original game to suit your system!
No shit, buddy. It had a 1x cdrom. All of it can be emulated, which takes care of the crappy load times. The system was ok for its time, but this guy is a little too amped up. I had one of these as a kid, and this guy is as excited about it as I was when I got mine at 12. Thankfully I got introduced to PUSSY which then took over my teenage years.

I bought a CD a few months ago on eBay. It did suck a little, but it has a lot of great games such as Sonic CD that make it well worth the 13 bucks I payed for it. Pretty good system.

The Sega CD definitely deserves a better reputation than Sega's other add-on, the 32X. Unlike that failure, the Sega CD actually had a decent game library with quite some gaming gems hidden throughout: Lunar, Lunar II, Vay, Popful Mail, Sonic CD, Silpheed, Keio Flying Squadron, Robo Aleste, Snatcher, Shining Force CD, Mickey Mania and many more, including ports like Earthworm Kim or Ecco. It was not a total bomb sales-wise, either, just not the hit Sega had expected.

i aggre,ive always been a sega man,its strange cos in NZ were i come from nintendo didint realy have much of a market here.sega definatly owned the 8 and 16bit war battle here.
Nintendo only cares to win in Japan, North America and Europe, and they hardly care about the rest of Asia, Oceania and Latin America.
For 8-bit however, I would prefer the Nintendo Famicom over the Sega Master System. Maybe this is also my affinity with Nintendo in terms of 8-bit gaming but the former just got too many better and more fun games if you observe both systems closely.
Back in 1993 FMV looked cool to me, and I loved my JVC X' EYE. Games like PrizeFighter,Mortal Kombat CD, Sonic CD, and Night Trap were cool. Too bad Sega Of America marketed as an FMV console and not a great upgrade for Genesis like it was marketed as in Japan as MEGA CD.
Yes, even until today Sega Genesis and Mega Drive games are cheaper and much easier to find than Super Nintendo games. But that's to say the Super Nintendo sucked; I do own it and some games but it's more like my affinity with Sega just happens to be stronger.

Well AVGN is only a character, and not mrant to be taken seriously under any circumstance. Secondly, Sega CD wasn't meant to compete with Nintendo. It was created to tackle PC Engine Super CD which was having enormous success in Japan. *Claps hands*
Unfortunately I never had the chance to play the Sega CD but in fact I own the other ill-faded add-on with the 32X. The only game I owned for it was Knuckles Chaotix but damn.. it was quite fun, up there with Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Maybe the peeps at Nintendo will release an external harddrive for the Wii so perhaps Sega CD games can be released on VC.
I agree, Sega CD is underrated. Most people never even knew it existed. I have the older version (the one that went underneath the Genesis, instead of next to it). It had some real flaws, though. Like no practical way to open the CD tray. You had to plug it into the genesis, turn them both on, and then hit "RESET". How weird is that?!
Also, it had some RAM issues, resulting in very few save files.

Nintendo only cares to win in Japan, North America and Europe, and they hardly care about the rest of Asia, Oceania and Latin America.
For 8-bit however, I would prefer the Nintendo Famicom over the Sega Master System. Maybe this is also my affinity with Nintendo in terms of 8-bit gaming but the former just got too many better and more fun games if you observe both systems closely.

Back in 1993 FMV looked cool to me, and I loved my JVC X' EYE. Games like PrizeFighter,Mortal Kombat CD, Sonic CD, and Night Trap were cool. Too bad Sega Of America marketed as an FMV console and not a great upgrade for Genesis like it was marketed as in Japan as MEGA CD.

Yes, even until today Sega Genesis and Mega Drive games are cheaper and much easier to find than Super Nintendo games. But that's to say the Super Nintendo sucked; I do own it and some games but it's more like my affinity with Sega just happens to be stronger.

yeah dude you're absolutely right, though cd cost sega some money and a bit of rep. if they had saved the cd games and said to hell with 32X sega would still be competing with nintendo sony and microsoft in my honest opinion.

Well AVGN is only a character, and not mrant to be taken seriously under any circumstance. Secondly, Sega CD wasn't meant to compete with Nintendo. It was created to tackle PC Engine Super CD which was having enormous success in Japan. *Claps hands*

Unfortunately I never had the chance to play the Sega CD but in fact I own the other ill-faded add-on with the 32X. The only game I owned for it was Knuckles Chaotix but damn.. it was quite fun, up there with Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Maybe the peeps at Nintendo will release an external harddrive for the Wii so perhaps Sega CD games can be released on VC.

I agree with you about the Sega CD soundtracks. The sound on games like Lunar II and Silpheed is beyond compare, even better than many games today.
It would be nice if your reviews made the soundtracks more audible though.

I agree, Sega CD is underrated. Most people never even knew it existed. I have the older version (the one that went underneath the Genesis, instead of next to it). It had some real flaws, though. Like no practical way to open the CD tray. You had to plug it into the genesis, turn them both on, and then hit "RESET". How weird is that?!
Also, it had some RAM issues, resulting in very few save files.

In some way, the games make the system. And if we look at the Sega CD like that, i have to say you are right (i am a great sega console fan, with huge console and game collection). BUT I am afraid YOU think, THAT the Sega CD is technicaly a piece of shit. And if i am right, you are bigger idiot than avgn, when talking about sega's failures. If developers havent made any fmv games, now sega would be still the console king.
