  • Does having it closer to your abdomen make it more stable?

  • Dumb bitch. It was used before RFAD

  • i made one like this but it's meant to attach to the back and the shaft is 50" long so it gives a really effective 3rd person view, not a close up one.

  • firmly screwed into your shaft...... DX ouch!

  • there was a icelandic guy named Snorri that created snorricam

  • At 0:58 it looks like "fun fart"

  • have you got an updated link to your build plans?

  • It was built by the Snorri brothers.

  • "The shaft is the hardest part"

  • The build plans just go to Ebaums World...

  • Is THAT how they do that for those ghosthunting shows!

Well, Thanks, that'll really help with our new movie!

  • created by Aronofsky? I dont exactly know who invented it, but the earliest I've seen it being used was in Mean Streets - to this day i consider it to be the best use of it as well, i love Aronofsky's use of it in Requiem too, particularly when Tyrone's running from the shootout

  • it was actually created by the snorri brothers. they're from iceland.

  • Not too hard to wikipedia it...

  • someone can re upload the build plans? please

  • Fun Fact kinda looks like Fun Fart

  • exactly what i was thinking

  • the pic address is not there anymore :S

  • Great job on the video...and yes, there's nothing quite like a lime tea while perusing the webster. cheers.

  • lime tea? he says lemon

  • great demonstration...i have another idea about athis kind of cam,my solution is take some desk lamp, remove the head including the lamp socket and place them your cam....cool right

  • does the big peice have to be curved?

  • what is the size format of this video?

  • That one kid reminds me of Dwight Schrute

  • how did he invent it if scorcessee used it 30 years earlier in mean streets?

  • Probably the two most irritating people I've ever seen.

  • Darren Aronofski didn't invent the snorricam. Good tutorial though.

  • i love fight club the movie and book

  • pause 1:10

  • pause 1:47

  • As you've probably heard before, Darren Aronofsky did not create the SnorriCam. Actually it's derived from two Icelandic photographers, Einar Snorri and Eiður Snorri. Although this technique has been around for decades. Darren Aronofsky is famous for using it as a "trademark" in his films.

  • sweet vid, the plans link doesnt work though?

  • thanks

  • The SnorriCam probably was used in Mr. Bean's Holiday during Playback Time's opening credits and narrative.

But hey, it's just a guess.

  • fun fact looked like fun fart

  • indeed

  • Hate to break it to you gentlemen but Darren Aronofsky did not create the SnorriCam, you can check the credits for PI if you have any doubts.

    peace

  • yeah it was used in Mean Streets... which is older, and better, than Pi.

    and that's scientifically proven.

  • Sweet video

  • to long to load

  • then change your isp...

  • whaat?

  • I made one of these loosely following these plans except i made a slot that i can slide a tripod shoe in for easy camera releasee. Snorricams have been used for decades, the earliest ive seen them is in early japanese horrors, ive also seen them being used in C4s Shameless and im sure ive seen it somewhere else. tis all good fun this camera mount stuff.

  • the new video is better

wish it was there when i made it

  • HAHA look alike a tool time

  • why did you guys make your plans so damn small? It's totally illegible.

  • wasn't this also used in Mean Streets 20 years before by Martin Scorsese

  • I think they're too young to have heard of that film.

    Good vid though.

    Thanks

  • I'm also thinking that if Scorsese used it in his early films he must have borrowed it from something he'd seen.

  • yes and it was in lock stock and in that mitchell and webb look.

  • Ha, I go to Wake Forest, which is no where near and only related by name

  • Ha ha, lake forest. I live in park forest, that's like 10-12 miles from me.

  • Fun Fact looked like Fun Fart

  • Hehe. At least I wasn't the only one!

  • Agreed XD

  • Nice job and neat design you got... I have a idea that would make it even better and easier to use I think. Instead of using bungie cords why dont you use those quick connect buckles found on most back packs and hip bags?? Also if you put padding on the back peice, may be more comfortable?? I think you have a great invention there and thanks alot for putting it on. Nice!!

  • thats rude...don't you think.

  • have you watched the video? and i know its rude thats why said it

  • yes i have watched the video but thats the way indy mogul present there backyard effects and weekend extras. it's there style. try to forget the idodicness of it and listen to the message.

  • their still gay lol

  • Aronofsky didn't invent this, scorcese used it way back in "Mean Streets"

  • I didnt know that

what scene was it used in?

    I love mean streets

  • watch the scene with harvey keitel stumbling around the bar in close up. the song "rubber biscuit" is playing.

  • thanks will do

I also love requiem for a dream

    but Mean Streets is classic

  • or you can use a tripod

  • that would be so much harder (and painful [with the legs digging into the actor's chest/stomach]) than using the Sorricam rig and it wouldn't be stabilized on top of being too long - with Snorricam shots they are close up. So, NO, a tripod wouldn't work.

  • yes, a tripod would work if you wernt to lasy to hold it

  • trust me - when it comes to filmmaking - a tripod wouldn't work. I have the experience to know.

  • i guess it depends on what camera you use, if its a canon zr series a tripod would do but if it was a glt or an xlh1 like the one i use i wouldnt

  • yeah, I have the Canon XH-A1, so it's heavier. I find that using a rig allows the actor to concentrate more on their performance than keeping the camera steady. You do have a good point, however.

  • didn't martin scorsese use something like this in mean streets?

  • or you can just, y'know, angle a tripod and hold it in place with a backback or straps

  • niice. i've always wanted to do this. requiem for a dream's awesome

  • it was created by the SNORRI BROTHERS...2 icelandic photographers

  • carino!!!

  • Good work - just one minor correction...

This camera rig did not originate with Requiem for a Dream or Aronofsky at all. It first appeared well before that time in music videos and some commercials, as many of these things often do - such as The Matrix's "bullet time", which also first appeared in a commercial.

  • Excellent work guys ...will keep you on my look up list ..keep up the gr8 work !

  • These videos are very useful! Thanks!

  • John Frankenheimer used the bodymount system in 1966...

  • not bad opie

  • vidimo se shabani...

  • dude, is that an lfhs shirt?

  • thats really good, will let my friend know this vid, as he is into all sorts of wierd angles in his film making

  • Great job

  • The bungie strap and nails idea is fine as ling as your not fat. But in that situation you could use screw-in loops.

  • way too much fun! lol marks cute

  • "way to much fun" lol

  • Not bad.

    How do I make guacamole?

  • or just get a tripod and connect it to u.. i did that it works just fine

  • hey guys this is veerrry cool

  • used in Scorsese's Mean streets way bk in 1973!

  • An easier way to do this, is simply to put a neck/waist strap on a tripod like Survivorman does. Just brace the feet of the tripod on your belt, and have a strap from the tripod going around either your back under the arms, or around the neck. With a tripod you can easily change the camera's angle and direction relative to yourself.

  • Wasn't this camera angle used in that "Fear" show on MTV quite a while back? You know, the one with objectives given by a computer to a group of people in a "haunted" place. Is Requiem older than that show?

  • This device has been around for a long time. Scorsese used it back in the day, and yes, Fear used it before Requiem.

  • @indymogul Yep. Mean Streets when Charlie's getting plastered

  • pretty cool, always good to know how to make something like that when learning.

  • this camera angle was used in behind enemy lines.

  • this is the most annoying camera angle that you could possibly put in a movie,

it makes the viewer aware of the camera which will ultimately ruin the movie. so unless you are making a video in which you are trying to be as obnoxious as possible I suggest not using this technique.

  • it was used in behind enemy lines. And that was a 10/10 to me.

  • This video made me slightly uncomfortable, but the information was priceless! Thanks guys!

  • shit dog, that is fat like your mother. i made one immediately

  • the method to attach it to the body is good, but the design needs some work where the camera attaches. shouldn't it be adjustable up and down / side to side?

  • That would be ideal, but it would be difficult to do that on the super cheap. the idea is that you can do this for less than 20 bucks material, and get a fairly professional effect.

  • I love indy mogul, but pick a host!

  • Awesome video!!!!! Mark is really cute :) John is pretty cute too :) Erick post more of their tutorials if they make them :)

  • uh this is really stupid...

what's the point of it? to be funny? it's not... -_-

  • Really stupid? They are showing you how to use a camera tool that you may not be familliar with, by demo - so you can see how it works and if you need one for your video storytelling. How is that stupid???

It was to be funny? I agree, definately not funny, but certainly not stupid.

  • yay, requiem for a dream :)

  • i have a better idea turn the head around and slant it the other way then you can walk, run after your actor creating a really cool effect or even maybe a steadicam....im gunna try it

  • Nothing steady about moving with a CAMERA attached to your body. THATS stupid to try. This is not a Steady cam replacement but a completely different tool altogether. Steady cam CAMERA has to be SEPERATED from the movement of your body. Just use your arms if you can't get real gear.

  • Perhaps you missed the point that this is not about a replacement for Steadicam. A steadicam would never be used for this type of shot. Steadicams are used to shoot action from other actors. This camera is used by the actor.

  • Perhaps missed that I was responding to PERSIANPIMP730? (1) Don't be such a moron - press view all before making stupid comments. (2) I said not a steady cam replacement, a completely different tool. (3) You can't tell me about steady cam operators, I world about 5+ million dollar super techno booms and steady cams all day long.

  • that should have read "I world around 5+ mil. super techno cranes and steady cams all day" try checking out some of my videos. You can see some of the multimillion dollar cams on there.

  • Don't be such a moron as well - there's no need to insult others if you have the same trouble posting and need to correct yourself with a second post.

  • Have the same trouble posting? Dumbass, the difference is that you were responding to me like I was talking about the video, I was talking to PERSIAN about his steady-cam-mistake. I find it remarkable that you can make short films but cannot figure out how to REPLY on youtube. I could not give a rats ass about spelling on youtube comments. Comparing your LAZINESS to my response is insane.

  • "same trouble" = not knowing what the fuck I am talking about and budding into a conversation like a moron. Hence MORON.

  • It is a snorricam, NOT a steadycam, sheesh, watch the video more closely.

  • Wow you won the DARWIN award for stupidest comment today. If you paid attention and knew how to properly read replies on YOUTUBE (you = YouTard), you would see that PERSIAN PIMP wanted to use it as a steady cam. You are a saberMORON. Click view all before replying to comments ignorantly. Unlike the rest of you I can get a hold of a steady cam and operator any time I want.

  • If you really work in LA in film/video, why are you interested in this amateur film technique discussion? Go back to making gay films about your dogs. (rrrrrr, rrrrr - how flaming!) Folks actually employed in the media are not coming to lame user-to-user video web sites just to waste their time insulting others.

  • "Folks actually employed..." Try a closer look at the vidoes. You are destined to be a PA cleaning up after my crew. Or maybe the guy at the pizza joint the PA goes to for 3rd meal. I'm local 44 you stupid fuck. Get clued in. I made 1500$ in last 2 days on a commercial, want a video of my paystub you loser?

  • You just demonstrated my point. If you are making so much, why are you messing with a amateur wood shaft holding a camera? You are a joke.

  • WTF does that mean? I am not messing around with wood shaft holding a camera! I am checking out INDY MOGUL helping losers like you who can't go to a real film school figure out how to make things on the cheap.

  • And a good department head knows ALL the tricks. Not just the ones that work with the equiptment you have on hand, but with whatever materials are available for any and all availability or necessity for a given shot, particularly when you have a indecisive director who may make last minute changes. You are so pathetic its sad. JUST LOOK AT YOUR SHORTS! I make million dollar sets. You make love to yourself nightly to internet porn. Anyone can IMDB me.

  • "gay films about dogs" hahahaha. Queer bashing PA no less. What a loser. Hollywood is very insular, what is your name again blacklist?

  • And *MY ORIGINAL COMMENT* was explaining to someone that this is *NOT* a replacement for a steady cam, which is what *THEY* thought. THEN YOU MORONS STARTED MAKING STUPID COMMENTARY THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH WHAT I SAID?!?! You = YOUTARD. You have no friends and 2 subscribers. Need I say more?

  • I have no friends on youtube because my friends are not afraid to spend time with me in person.

Keep typing away moron - why are you helping 'losers'? If you think they are losers, what motivates you? You're insane.

  • So you have no "friends" of your videos??? HAHAHAHA PATHETIC. YOU ARE THE ONLY LOSER, not helping anyone else except people confused about the difference in this and a steady cam. You are much more lost than that.

  • Spamjim here is the SAD part. ME? ZERO EFFORT put into my YouTube videos = way more than 10,000hits just for fun and nothing else. YOU? LOADS OF EFFORT and 100s of hits. Case closed.

  • JackassMax - I am not a video producer - I could not care if only a dozen people saw anything I posted. I do not base my self worth on my product. Nor do I pose as someone more than I am by noting who and what I work with.

  • So you are nothing and noone? Okay. Long as we are agreed. So in that case, why say anything, thus being a complete dumbfuck, about what I said to begin with, which was RIGHT ON. You are so stupid its amazing. Why do I answer you? BOREDOM! Its fun to rag on you dumbfuck. Get a clue.

  • I removed spam - there were no negative comments attached to any of my videos.

I never asserted I was a professional. It is apparent you are the one that has the silly opinions.

I am surprised anyone works with you.

  • As for snorricam, I can make that or a zombie cam out of any number or materials whenever I want. Its REALLY REALLY fucking basic man.

  • So again, why do you care about this video on youtube? Your insults seem to indicate you are pretty passionate about the topic. That seems silly. Go hang out in a pro forum if that is really your crowd. Hanging out with people that are apparently below you seems like you have some self esteem issues.

  • Once again, commentary about commentary. YOUTARD. Your videos suck and you change your insult to taste. You are the only one ***BELOW*** me here, as witnessed by your original stupid comment. Anyone feel free to scroll back to see what an idiot this guy is.

  • But I do particularly enjoy picking on people that make stupid comments and don't even know how to properly read replies.

  • As for the video, I think the kids did a good job.

  • Still stupid Spamjim. Stop watching even these movies. They will not help you. You need PROFESSIONAL help.

  • A coincidence! I like making fun of people that have such low self-esteem that they feel the need to insult strangers in a forum. Quit looking at my shorts! That is so gay.

  • Now I'll ignore you.

  • "check out the blooper reel" Man, all you shit is blooper reel! HAHAHAHAHA

  • hhahahahhahah shaft

  • this reminds me of the one of the 3 or 4 good parts in the movie doom when he got injected and went on a killing spree and it was like in first person so it looked like a video game. (the effect of the snorricam not the tutorial)

  • The part when they were naming off the parts sounded alot like cunningham muffins skit by LiamKellySullivan

  • Lol. I wa thinking the exact same thing.

  • "the shaft is the hardest part" thats what she said

  • Hell yeah she did!

  • Is this just an anti-steadicam?

  • ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh intrestinnggggggg. btw is Mark from Canada or something? Or from a place other than Long Island? lmao, he sounds different that what my friends sound like and doesnt sound southern.

  • Hi, I'ts Mark. To answer your question, I am from Chicago. haha I never knew I sounded strange...

  • it looked like fun fart

  • ha, i thought it said that too

  • wahooo that realy fun

  • I don't think the Snorribros took any offense to it, our older video was featured on their website, it'll be under their press section.

  • wheres the end effect of the camera? :|

  • The effect was shown when he went down the stairs

  • Interesting, good overview of building the device.

  • Thank you guys...I wanted this tutorial for a few months now!!!

  • this really helps guys!

keep up the tutourials for us that aren't smart enough to do it by ourselves.

  • And yea you are all right, it was created Einar and Eiður Snorri- We knew that from the beginning, we just put Aronofsky because people usually tend to think of Requiem when they hear about the Snorricam.

  • It was actually more of Aronofsky's trademark. I think the first film it was actually used in was maybe "Mean Streets"

  • Yea, Aronofsky didn't invent this. Never the less, this was a really well produced viewer submition.

I noticed the fight club robe right away!

  • i thought it was presented well :)

    a lot of haters

  • i couldn't help but point out (although someone else has) that darren aronofsky didn't create the snorricam.

the snorri brothers, two icelandic photographers, did.

    great tutorial, regardless.

  • interesting... now if i had a use for it and if everything i built didnt fall apart in my hands if used
