mushroomhead, what is the most amazing to me is, some Obama supporters are leaving comments saying that Obama was right, small town people are worthless hicks with guns. How does that help?
That last comment I left was so serious, here's something funny, lol.
Michael Goodwin, of the NY Daily News, notes:
"turn this screed around and it comes out this way: if the hicks had good jobs, they wouldn't need God or guns. Then the borders could be wide open for the enlightened world to come here 'cause our hate would vanish."
Hillary's right! I realize I'm elitist too, because after hearing THE WHOLE ANSWER I agree with what Obama said. Who knew I could be so broke AND be elitist and out of touch. I also have never played guitar hero. I think you need a game system for a few 100$ for that. I need to drink more beer and do more shots, and get back to the heart of America. That's not condescending at all. And No, I won't go to San Fran, not even for a latte.
Hillary for Comedian in '08. She can open for Sinbad.
These people will make a good man bad and a bad man good. These are the same people that led us to war, never questioned the stolen election. This man says "bitter" they jump on him. Hillary LIES about ducking snipers in Bosnia and these fools keep on trucking for her. Hillary's lies make her unfit for office. Obama's comments making him a thinking man. Thinking about why lower economic communities continue to vote for a party that does not care about them. These pundits are sheep.
McCain is 72 years old and he really, really wants to be President. He's not going to live forever and besides, he has lots of new ideas for us, like eliminating inheritance taxes and replacing Social Security with 401Ks.
Obama told wealthy San Franciscans that small-town Pennsylvanians and Midwesterners "get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy towards people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."
Youtube removed the original tape of what Obama said in San Fransisco from the most viewed in the politics section. You can watch it here:
I've already seen it but don't see how those comments would his governing style. What is more interesting in impact on American lives is John McCain explaining how he would extend the Iraqi War into Iran, and his plans for permanent war in the Middle East.
I was in Pa. a few months ago. I saw Confederate flags all over the place. For all those who say this stuff has nothing to do with anything, I'd like to hear their explanation. Why do rural folks in Pa. fly that flag? Is it because they are optimistic, resilient people? Is this what Hillary means by "American values"? How about you, mushroomhead777? How would YOU explain that to my 12-year-old son, whose complexion is the same as Barack's? Let's hear it. I'm waiting.
papakilatube, wow, what's with the bullying? And what does the confederate flag have to do with what Obama said behind closed doors to donors about rural Americans? What does that have to do with Obama's critics saying that his remarks were condescending, elitist, and out of touch? I'm sure you're able to GOOGLE just as well as anyone else, so if you really need to figure out what to tell your son, I'm sure you don't need to confront 'mushroomhead' agressively for the answer. Sheesh.
Of course I'm not going to wait for a response from Mushroomhead or GOOGLE it. He's studied slavery and the civil war in school, and he knows full well that was the flag of the enemies of the US and of black people in particular. I tell him there are still people who believe in that cause, even today, even in PA. And in this Clinton may be partly right: these are deeply held values. But Obama at least is challenging them, and pointing the way out: an end to the zero-sum game of racial politics.
Here's the short answer to why people fly the confederate flag: You'd have to ask the individual flying that flag to get the precise answer.
It could be a symbol of national pride and state's rights. Some people's anncestors fought in the war and died in that war. Those who are offended by the flag, usually see it as a symbol of racism and slavery. Just because you may see it as a symbol of racism, it does not mean you can conclude that is how the person flying it sees it.
We're talking about Pennsylvania here. We're talking about native Pennsylvanians.
Dude, I'll tell you why they fly that flag. I'll tell you why because my own brother, who was born in upstate New York flies it too, and he's told me why he flies it. They fly it because they want the world to know they don't like black people. Except they don't say black people. They say "niggers".
Did Donna Brazile really just say that Obama was attempting to "educate" the San Francisco elite by insulting the working class people of Pennsylvania? LOL!
I agree AnotherStrangeFroot. Youtube removed the original tape of what Obama said in San Fransisco from the most viewed in the politics section. You can watch it here:
I don't understand what the big deal is..if Hilary thinks what he say's is untrue and that Americans are not bitter and are happy with the way the gov is running the country, then I don't think she should be running for president and she shld then just let Bush stay there for another four years.
Obama blamed the Clinton administration for the bitterness that Pennsylvanians feel [when talking to the San Fransisco donors]. In speeches since then, he says people feel their governent isn't listening to them. That's quite a dig against Bill. No wonder Hillary went into full attack mode. What do you expect when Obama keeps slamming the Clinton administration? Duh. LOL
Man this is way out there, what is it with hearing what some people are realy thinking but just don't want to say. There are some people out there who are upset. All I can say is Wooow.
I wouldn't know who the elites are in US society, were it not for the millionaire pundits talking down to me about how not to consider class as a relevant issue.
Hillary needs to stop taking marching orders and campaign advice from the GOP if she really wants to be the democratic (or is it democrat, Clinton?) president.
The background noise that tries to stifle the simple facts is deafening. Pundits for the ruling class hate when the truth emerges.
Obama told wealthy San Franciscans that small-town Pennsylvanians and Midwesterners "get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy towards people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations." Sounds elitist to me.
what's up with her cracking voice? Is that supposed to lend to her credibility? Make her seem more human?
Oh and Religion is fear based, with it's threats of hell and eternal damnation and it's bribing you with heaven to get you to behave. (sarcasm)Because as a human, you won't behave without some sort of reason for doing so...(/sarcasm)
What Obama meant in "cling" was the people may have had their jobs taken overseas to other countries, but they still have their freedom of religion and freedom of bearing arms, unlike some foreign countries.
GUNS and God!Yep we all know THOSE things are what Americans are all about. This shit is ridiculous. The sad thing is, some people are falling for the bullshit.
It's good to hear that it's not just us white people this guy doesn't like. Apparently all rural people and gun owners are bad or at least stupid in his opinion. I hate that this clown will be our next president.
Wow, pundits are evidently out of touch. What a bunch of utter morons. People get the government they deserve, and the pundits deserve a government that fucks them over and over again. FUCK YOU!!!
Let's see: Median wages are less than they were 5 years ago, Jobless rate highest since 1982, Foreclosures are worst since Great Depression, The super-wealthy make 1,000's times more than the average American, Gas + energy + food prices at all time highs, 4,000+ dead and 30,000 wounded US soldiers in Iraq, 50,000,000 Americans have no health care, Taxpayers cough up billions of dollars to bail out Wall St bank...
Gee, why would Americans, including small town ones, be bitter?
Oh this is about Rucola bars now? Gimme a friggin break. How idiotic do these people think we are? And Obama has addressed the issue of cultural conservatism in his book 10 times more accurately than these pumpkinheads. Rucola my ass. HRC is finished in the Dem party now and the Reps are gonna spit on her too.
McCain, even after we won: defeated Saddam, destroyed the regime and Iraq, no WMD..what is the mission? what is the vision of more success? Leader lead with CLARITY OF PURPOSE AND GOAL!
I will die for this contry, but you better give me a good reason, other than war and oil profits.
so again i say "dont call me sir son, I WORK FOR A LIVING"
Yeah media folks. Roll up your sleeves and take off your ties, and get ready to do some "hard work" to make stuff up. Take a lesson from George Wanker. George Wanker talks with Goddy.
r there people serious???? how could u not be BITTER??? we are in a war we cant finish and gas is at an all time high!!! America who do we think we are????
its kinda tough. That statement would hurt a Democratic candidate in the general election, BUT its not going to cripple Obama in a Democratic primary. Too many liberals agree with what he said, or convince themselves that they agree.
people do not become religious because they are bitter, people do not believe in gun ownership because they are bitter. Anyone who agrees with Obama's elitist scumbag statements is a POS..that includes you
I love how everytime Obama has foot in mouth issues...obamaphiliacs come out of the woodwork to say "oh but he meant that.." or "thats not what he actually said.." or "its out of context.." - just like pastor wright's despicable statements...there are no excuses for Obama's true nature and thoughts.
i dont support Obama, im voting for someone else. probably libertarian party. but you have these morons in the MSM going out of their minds when he says something that may be true but they twist it around so that it sounds bad. Obama also distanced himself from rev. wright as a PR move but when i listened to the speech by rev wright i found it to be completely true. i do not like they WAY he said it in the angry black man tone but the content was correct.
There is NO need to "twist" his statements. They are really, really offensive as they stand (Obama himself concedes as much when says he chose his words badly).
So, Obama on one hand is the most articulate politician of our generation, but on the other hand he's so stupid as to construct statements that he LITERALLY means the exact opposite. Heard of Occam's razor? He meant what he said, though who knows if he believes it as much as he lies. I dont think anybody knows the real Obama.
It seems to me that people misunderstand people, and the purpose of politics. We will never agree with any one candidate on all the issues, or what ever personal feelings they have. I think the main question that we need to vigorously ask is: who, of the candidates, would do the "Best" for the country, and not necessarily do we agree with all of their "personal politics" or 'PERSONAL' feelings. We need to allow our representatives to speak more freely to allow progress in this difficult era.
i agree he meant what he said but the media twisted it around as if he meant something else. im not defending obama because i want him to win, im defending the truth of the matter.
It's too bad Obama made that statement. In no way is he an elitist, and that's pretty obvious if you look at his past. And what he said wasn't wrong, either. But the truth hurts.
I mean, look - people tend to turn towards religion when things are hard. Duh. Conservatives want guns, but for the wrong reasons. Disenfranchised people in general shun outsiders (look at recent Tibet). People are anti-immigrant when the problem is the companies giving illegals jobs and states giving them benefits!
The CORPORATE media is a HUGE propaganda machine. When was the last time you saw an average American on the news expressing their concerns? Instead we are barraged by partisan talking heads & the weak minded & lazy people eat it up and don't research for themselves. THIS IS NOT A HUGE issue & even people who don't support Obama agree with what he said. Even if this were McCain on the hot seat I'd be pissed because the media is a frickin' joke! They are more like the Enquirer than news, THEY SUCK
"When their economic policies fail, when the country's coming apart rather than coming together, what do they do? They find the most economically insecure white men and scare the living daylights out of them."
Yeah it was so much like "would you have a beer with Bush" kind of propaganda. It's a shame that they play politics with our lives. We are in very bad times right now it's getting worse. Obama is the only one NOT playing politics, he gets his money from We, the people. McCain Hilary from HUGE corporations. Obama will restore our voice & the corporations including the media DO NOT WANT THAT
RE; Hilary doing shots at the bar. What will she be saying about that? "I was in a bar and SHOTS broke out"
I'm really starting to like Hillary. Looks to me like she's a gun totin', church goin', whiskey drinkin' woman. YEEEEHAW! Imsa fixin' to vote for HER!
That they are bitter religious nuts, who cling to their guns, who are racists, and who irrationally oppose trade? The guy literally had like 4 different gaffes in one damn sentence. Of course, it wasn't really a gaffe, he was feeding those san fran elitist bastards exactly what they wanted to hear. It's ONLY a gaffe because the target of his demeaning comment--about half of America--found out about it.
just look at the war we are in and not winning...we walk into their country and force feed them democracy - pwnd.
it's funny how he is made fun of for being elitist, yet we show the same attitude to iraq and iran - cause we know best and have bigger guns...
dude, no gaffe - just the hurtful truth of all the stupid people who are more informed with Britney Spears' breakdown then the crimes being comitted in a war the american people wanted to start but show no interest in it now.
He's condescending and its damaging, a bad gaffe, and it saddens them - what idiots and corporate shills. Good grief.
Meanwhile, McCain is advocating war and more war and he and Hillary are all about corporate welfare and continuation of the corpate fascist state, you know the banana republic that America has become.
Oh, and he is an elitist, OK compared to McCain who has 8 houses and Hillary who made over 100 million in thje last few years. PULEEEZE
What he said was right on the money - listen to the whole speech not just the sound bite. And who are the real elitists? The peeps that have been running this country into the ground for the last 20 years.
Obama is the ONLY candidate who has NO coporate lobbyists on his campaign staff and who takes NO money from corporate interests. Now who is elitist?
At least she didn't look like an alien having a few shots and talking to regular people in that bar the way Obama looked in that bowling alley with his score of 37. Hillary's been a lib forever, but like it or not, I don't think either of the Clintons, for all their flaws and corruption, EVER looked down upon ordinary Americans the way Obama does. That's just a fact.
Could you be any more stupid? You think Hillary does not look down on these people? What about Mccain? Are you kidding me? Who came from very modest means and is a self made man and who came from wealth and privilege?
John McCain is the son and grandson of Admirals. McCain certainly was not admitted to the Naval Academy based on his own merits--he was the worst in his class. Now after spending an adult life in politics subsidized by the millionaire second wife's father-in-law, McCain wants the American people to know "he's just like them, just a regular guy." Worst of all, the American media wants people to think the same thing.
Barack Obama is getting beaten up for speaking the truth. The absurdity of people voting against gay marriage or gun laws when the powers that be are pissing away our national future and doing nothing to imporove the lives of the folks they target with the boogie man non-issues is simply amazing. Unfortunately, the GOP and Hillary have cynically exploited the lack of sophistication amongst voters. People are stupid, so Obama tries to lay out his assessment, the rest accept and exploit.
Not condescending AT ALL! This is a bunch of bullsh!t! Are they intentionally twisting his words to the worst possible context in order to make a news issue. Clinton doesn't seem to realize how she's actually hurting the Democratic Party by propping this sh!t up.
Is it just that Obama had no real gaffes in the last two weeks and the punditry was eager for anything they could pounce on?
What he said was factual and the kind of hard truth we need from a real leader.
Exactly, sugar. I always tell people I don't want the president to be like me, I want the president to be fifty times smarter than me. I want the president the be the smartest freakin person in the country!
There seems to be very little discussion from these people of whether there is any truth to Obama's remarks. I would think you would do this first, before labelling them elitist. Using that term suggests that the speaker is out of touch with ordinary people in a substantive way. There is a lot of good information out there that says that people vote on social issues because they feel the government will never respond on pocketbook issues. I see nothing disproving this idea from these bloviators.
I'm so tired of talking points... They are all saying the same exact thing... I don't know about you... but that's the republican playbook. When you can't argue the points... put a gun or abortion measure on the ballot and start playing to the base... start screaming about illegal immigrants "stealing" WHITE FOLKS jobs, instead of the slave wages employers are allowed to get away with paying. Obama will shake this one off too...
What is a defeatist? ....O...Elitist...? Whats that??---consciousness of being or belonging to an elite. ????
Gee, I hope he is. I dont want just anyone walking in off the streets and running this Goverments Administration!!!
And all those press reporters...? There not elite?..ok__ You come play Janitor for the Day and let me talk infront of a camera an tell you whats bad or good.
Yes, he's telling us what he really thinks, those PA bumpkins sure are a bunch of religious, gun-owning, racist yahoos who are just too stupid and uneducated to realize that the Democrats represent their true interests, not all that gun, God, and values crapola, which they just cling to because they are bitter.
I was raised lower middle class in a rural state. I am still trying to climb up the ladder. I'm also a Hillary supporter. Nonetheless, I'm not in the least offended by Obama's comments. If you're offended by the truth, then work to change it; don't attack the person who has the guts to say it.
thanks for posting. it is really really frustrating to watch the talking heads blather. talk about elitists! what the hell was juan williams talking about? a npr pundit talking about elitism! wow! the hubris is thick.
Being from pa.Obama was 100% right! Just because you Pundits do not like what he says does not make it UNTRUE! People here are pissed off, they have been laid off and screwed over by their elected representatives for the past 30 years since the fall of steel. The word "cling" is meant as a kind of safety blanket. Something to numb the pain of reality. Spin it all you want the people are disenfranchised and are awake to washington's abuses. By the way I'm not a Obama supporter. Truth supporter!
Well crap... when people get completly "messed over" and are deprived of their status thy can become embittered. If they have a way to recover even then they will never be the same. It means that their very existences are less important than rich people's money and status. When they learn that at first they will be embittered. It is a loss of innocence. Just be glad they don't become Mongol like. All power structures trend toward more Nazi like behaviors. Like the Bushwad admin!
Pennsylvania has an extended history with the steel industry. That fellow Carnagie whose name remains as an icon of benevolence was in fact a kind of an evil oppressive slave master toward the working population of Pennsylvania along with greedy successful bankers. People in Pennsylvania have had to wage war to exist and survive against the power and arrogance of the rich. It is part of their culture now. i grew up in Republican McCarthyishish WI. It had a desocializing effect on me.
People who don't work are out of touch with work. They think work is getting their photo taken with their tie on and their suit jacket off with their sleeves rolled up.(like the Georgewad). Somebody told him to take his tie off. No rich person has actual empathy toward poor people if they spend their entire existence succeeding at not being one of them and thereby helping them be oppressed and gaining wealth in the form of influence and power. Most leaders are a plague of selfish bad news.
You have got to be kidding me. This is such big news???What about Clinton's ties to the Columbian government?? Are people that stupid to be distracted by this bull?
William F. Buckley was the essence of pomposity, but I liked him more than GFWill. Not sure why he curdles my blood so much. I think it's partly because he claims to be the biggest baseball fan in the country all the time.
Buckley almost seemed like he was acting, a show of pomposity. Good entertainment. Will seems to take himself seriously. He actually bugs me more in print than in person. But he's right a lot of the time and he's an OK pundit, as far as that goes.
Glover Park is another lobbying firm set up by Clinton aides, that was hired by the Colombian government:
"Mr. Wolfson has taken a leave from Glover Park, [but] he still has equity in the firm valued at $500,000 to $1 million"
tinyurl . com / 49s3xk
Howard Wolfson is HRC's chief spokesman.
If all these key aides, including her own husband and Mark Penn (who is still HRC's chief pollster) support and get paid to lobby for an agreement she opposes, isn't there a conflict of interest?
"As recently as November, Clinton supported a free trade agreement negotiated by the Bush administration with Peru. [..]
Since 2001, Clinton has backed pacts with Jordan, Chile, Singapore, Australia, Morocco and Oman that were opposed by numerous labor, farming and environmental groups concerned that the deals contained insufficient safeguards for American workers and consumers."
Despite all these facts, HRC claims she is opposed to unfair free trade agreements and claims Obama is out of touch with the working class. Does anyone see the irony?
Isn't it more out of touch with the interests of workers to support a free trade agreement with for example Colombia, when Colombia gets labor and union leaders killed, in order to create labor conditions that will get jobs shipped from the US to Colombia. Remember she also lied about her support for NAFTA. Check the links above.
The media have never ganged up on anyone like they do Hillary Clinton.
It's too bad, she would have been a good President.

Simple math for dumb Americans:
Middle Class tax's in America. (thats the workingman)
Inflation 4% (if you don't know thats a tax then you got a lot to learn about your money)
Property and misc 6%
City 7%
State 9%
Federal 28%
TOTAL == 54%
That comes to 54% of your income as a regular working person, not rich, by any means. Sound like a good deal to you?

I'm sure you're able to GOOGLE just as well as anyone else, so if you really need to figure out what to tell your son, I'm sure you don't need to confront 'mushroomhead' agressively for the answer. Sheesh.
R0SEBUD789 3 years ago
Of course I'm not going to wait for a response from Mushroomhead or GOOGLE it. He's studied slavery and the civil war in school, and he knows full well that was the flag of the enemies of the US and of black people in particular. I tell him there are still people who believe in that cause, even today, even in PA. And in this Clinton may be partly right: these are deeply held values. But Obama at least is challenging them, and pointing the way out: an end to the zero-sum game of racial politics.
papakilatube 3 years ago
Here's the short answer to why people fly the confederate flag: You'd have to ask the individual flying that flag to get the precise answer.
It could be a symbol of national pride and state's rights. Some people's anncestors fought in the war and died in that war. Those who are offended by the flag, usually see it as a symbol of racism and slavery. Just because you may see it as a symbol of racism, it does not mean you can conclude that is how the person flying it sees it.
R0SEBUD789 3 years ago
We're talking about Pennsylvania here. We're talking about native Pennsylvanians.
Dude, I'll tell you why they fly that flag. I'll tell you why because my own brother, who was born in upstate New York flies it too, and he's told me why he flies it. They fly it because they want the world to know they don't like black people. Except they don't say black people. They say "niggers".

RoachAsylum 3 years ago
i dont support Obama, im voting for someone else. probably libertarian party. but you have these morons in the MSM going out of their minds when he says something that may be true but they twist it around so that it sounds bad. Obama also distanced himself from rev. wright as a PR move but when i listened to the speech by rev wright i found it to be completely true. i do not like they WAY he said it in the angry black man tone but the content was correct.
ambientdiscord 3 years ago
There is NO need to "twist" his statements. They are really, really offensive as they stand (Obama himself concedes as much when says he chose his words badly).
So, Obama on one hand is the most articulate politician of our generation, but on the other hand he's so stupid as to construct statements that he LITERALLY means the exact opposite. Heard of Occam's razor? He meant what he said, though who knows if he believes it as much as he lies. I dont think anybody knows the real Obama.
politicalmind 3 years ago
It seems to me that people misunderstand people, and the purpose of politics. We will never agree with any one candidate on all the issues, or what ever personal feelings they have. I think the main question that we need to vigorously ask is: who, of the candidates, would do the "Best" for the country, and not necessarily do we agree with all of their "personal politics" or 'PERSONAL' feelings. We need to allow our representatives to speak more freely to allow progress in this difficult era.

More about the Colombian free trade agreement which almost all HRC key aides lobby for but she claims she opposes:
Opponents cite a "history of attacks in Colombia against trade union members, 39 of whom the A.F.L.-C.I.O. says were killed"
HRC's former chief strategist "Mr. Penn had been [..] running a public relations firm hired by the Colombian government."
tinyurl . com / 49s3xk
"Bill [Clinton] has financially benefited [..] to at least the tune of $600,000."

If all these key aides, including her own husband and Mark Penn (who is still HRC's chief pollster) support and get paid to lobby for an agreement she opposes, isn't there a conflict of interest?
vertigate 3 years ago
